Speedway Star 11 May match report states "there was confusion about the winner of the meeting but eventually Smith was given the verdict as he had a faster winning time than Doncaster who also scored 11". There was also a complicated run-off procedure caused by 5 riders finishing on 8 points and resulted in 4 races to decide the 3 riders who qualified to the British Final. 30/09 Exeter South West Open Championship winner: Dean Garton - CONFIRM DATE & WINNER Speedway Star 28 September - Exeter stage their special Speedtrack meeting next Monday with riders competing on grasstrack machinery. No subsequent report of meeting provided. 07/10 Exeter Tony Sanford Memorial 4TT abandoned after heat 3 - CONFIRM DATE & SCORE AT TIME OF ABNDONMENT Speedway Star 19 October - Match report for 7 October "The riders bravely attempted to put on a show in the Tony Sandford Memorial Fours despite constant drizzle which started at 7 pm. But it was to no avail as Colin Cook spun round and crashed spectacularly on the first bend of heat 3 and it didn't take referee Mick Barnes long to call a halt after that."
