    Laydown Weslake

Here is my SOHC Antig Weslake Laydown in an RTS chassis. http://xtremesport.org/rts-aw.jpg http://xtremesport.org/rts-aw2.jpg The tank and fork cover give it a retro look. The engine was one used by Martin Hagon when sponsored by Antig Weslake. One of the factory bikes is in the hagon Shocks showroom and the other was bought from Antig by Lee Cross who crashed and wrecked it. I bought the motor. Lee Cross at Tonbridge http://www.leecrossracing.com/images/lee-collier-street.jpg The last moments of a straight bike http://www.leecrossracing.com/images/Frame-96.jpg I also have a Ted Howell TT tuned pushrod Weslake Laydown that should see completion in April. I bought this engine from Les Collins.

    Website Updates

SHIRLEY, Stuart (Ellesmere Port & England).............................December 3, 1977.............Ellesmere Port Wow brings back a sad memory. I used to pit with Stuart and was there on that day at the Ellesmere Port Training School. Stuart was a very good rider. Terrible day.

    Wal Phillips

I think I remember Phil Collins saying he was sponsored by Wal Phillips, I know he had used the injector, as had Peter and Les who showed me the one he still has in October of this year. Neat carb.

    American History

I have added some new info about this race on my website. Cary Cotterman who sent the info has emailed me again and said his father sponsored Mauger's USA trip in 1970. xtremesport.org

    Japan

I have found and posted video from several tracks in Japan here on the Flattrack Forum. Some of the races are pretty good, stadiums just begging for dirt and a GP of Japan.

    Unsuccessful American's

Rode for Reading and was killed at Hackney
  11. I still think that smaller tracks especially for CL teams should be considered. I read in SS that Weymouth maybe out of a stadium. For some areas it maybe asking too much to find a space for a 1/4 mile track. It is always going to be hard living with greyhound, football and rugby landlords so why not be flexible. Here is a picture of me at Costa Mesa. Note the large heap of dirt, this was a xtreme mx jump night. Silly stuff but the crowd loves it. Anyway look at the track and crowd. Would you rather have this or nothing. http://xtremesport.org/costamesa-w-bg.jpg

    Belle Vue's Gary Hicks

You simply can't beat the sound of an open piped speedway bike. Reminds me of the sound coming out of the pits at Belle Vue's Hyde Road in the '70's. Just wonderful. Gary Hicks gated fast and rode a smooth race to victory at Ventura last night, Eddie Castro came second with a late charge and Chad Newlee of CNC Photography finished third. Gary Hicks video Ventura, California June 25th, 2005. Gary Hicks and Putty Mills got to meet for the first time. Gary is Cordy Milnes' grandson and Putty saw him ride in Santa Barbara in 1933, later on in the '40s Putty rode in the same meeting as Cordy Milne at Lincoln Park in Los Angeles. Gary Hicks is still a Belle Vue Speedway owned rider so it seemed fitting for him to wear a Belle Vue body colour. I got this off Peter Collins in I think around '74.

    Weslake's

The first Weslake was raced not in speedway but on Oct 20th, 1974 at Lydden, a grass/chalk surfaced track by Don Godden. The Hagon Shocks showroom has one the last complete factory bike Tig perry was involved in, a SOHC laydown grasser as raced by Martin Hagon. Two bikes were built, Lee Cross had #2 and crashed it. I have the engine from #2 here in California after being re-built at Antig. Antig still have spares for the Weslake, and when I was there new engines too. Go to my website too see a new engine and a laydown pushrod owned by David Perry. http://xtremesport.org Weslake today http://home.adelphia.net/~aeroengine/Weslake.html

    Costs Of Speedway A Joke

No 43 year olds then. Is your idea for new blood or current riders in a I.R.O.C type deal?
