Take the contents of the interview with a pinch of salt. Having been put on the spot the defensive mechanism kicks in. Does he represent every club with his comments or just those who follow the party line.

Given all that is going on in the sport with the failings, issues, weaknesses at various levels and the potential loss of three clubs what the hell are the BSPL doing to manage what has become a dire situation. It was sheer folly to run the divisions this year as if nothing has happened and with large question marks over tyres, a lengthening injury list, it seems that the class of 2021 are headless chickens. To cap it all BSPL directly or via the rule book when it suits them, try to put so many obstacles in the way of the IOW or any other track who would be better running on a open licence like they use to to which may keep those venues going until better times come around yet this option would make sense in a number of cases. The self interested clowns that are in control of speedway’s destiny care little for the bigger picture and are going to go down in history as those responsible for ruining what was once a highly entertaining two wheeled competitive sport. Some clubs are making efforts with streaming etc but those on the top table have their respective heads up their backsides.

It is a pity that the sport does not have a rich benefactor to take on those in charge. For the time being how about every forum member writing to the local track asking what it is that the local promoters/ owners have against the IOW running open meetings and allowing any rider to compete/ gain track time and in the wider scheme of things tracks that could run on open licences so that they can continue to operate and not be lost to the sport. Then feed the responses to the Star to publish the results.

Cannot see there being very many responses as in my experience feedback / ideas are not welcome as the '" it's all going well " idea seems to prevail with the promoters ( even when it's obviously not! )

    3) Readjusting chains is NOT boring. In fact, it can compare quite favourably to some of the racing I see...

I think the heats you are referring to are not speedway racing but 1/2 lap from the gate motorcyle events. Very little interest / effort put in after that first 1/2 lap. For me, sppedway racing involves passing or at least the possibility of  being close enought to pass ( or take advantage of a mistake by the rider in front ).

I'm with you, waytogo28. I too believe streaming could be a lifesaver, but there seems to be disappointingly little of it happening at present and it doesn't seem very well publicised. I'm amazed that more clubs are not trying it, and that the ones that are are not shouting louder about it. Do they want to get people watching or not?

If there *is* a central place to locate available livestreams, I've yet to find it. I had to dig up all the info below myself by laboriously looking through the websites of each club in the Premiership, Championship and NDL. There appear to be just three regular livestreams right now:

Glasgow - https://tv.glasgowtigers.co.uk/ (£11.95, next meeting on Friday 2nd July)

Edinburgh - https://www.edinburghmonarchs.co.uk/live-stream (£11.99, not sure of next meeting)

Poole - https://www.poole-speedway.com/pirates-tv (£9.95, next meeting on Wednesday 30th June)

Berwick have used streaming but only for occasional one-off meetings, I think. Don't know why they don't do regular meetings.

This week I am planning to visit Poole on Wednesday and Glasgow on Friday while simultaneously remaining in the West Country without leaving my armchair :-)

Thank you HtG for doing what I just could not be bothered to do. I feel that an "industry" that would like you to give them your custom should make it easy - much easier than it currently is ( from your experience ). But that is speedway UK and that is part of the reaon it is slowly dying. May well try a match from Glasgow and possibly Poole. I would also be happy to buy in to a Polish stream for league matches there but cannot locate the How To. Amazingly after Eurosport 1 & 2 failing to show the SEC, I see that they will be showing the next round this Saturday at 6 pm. Looking forward to the GPs on BT. Armchair speedway is amazingly less stressful and more than adequate for me. I can see more than when I was in the stands at King's Lynn.

I've not been this year because Lynn is £20 which is extortionate and there is a requirement to wear a mask at all times which I'm not prepared to do outside. I expect I will go and have a look at Lynn, P'boro or Belle Vue at some point this season but I don't really miss it any more which is sad as I used to be a fanatic.

The watershed moment for me was probably Holder/Batchelor-gate in 2017 at Lynn, I've not been regularly since then.

Pretty much the same for me I am sad ( in some ways ) to say. Is there a central place I can locate what streams are available, as I am eager to see and pay reasonably for matches? I have always believed that streaming may be a sport saver for speedway, but other than one try at Berwick I have not seen any. I must add I am not very technical or computer savvy ( much as in the same way I can drive a car! ).

  5. Excuse my ignorance - is the Eurosport App different from Eurosport? I Have Eurosport 1 & 2 via BT and was unable to watch the SEC Round 1  on those channels. I was looking forward to watching Round 1 but that pleasure was denied to me. Is it now on You Tube ( I would watch it as I do not know the result - please don't tell me! ) But do tell me how I can watch future rounds, if you know. I would prefer to watch it on my Tv or or my computer but the link R&R put up would not enlarge from the much too small picture I got. Blessings,

  6. Various kinds of speedway "swindles" are always being added to the British domesic racing scene. One swindle is that now we are at the £1:50 p per race ( almost certainly when inc parking and the raceday magazine ). And that is without any of the "special" food and drink deals. I am amazed to see that early season / first night crowds have returned with a decent bang, so it's a matter of will they keep up to that level which appears to be the previous real average gare in many cases.

Looking forward to watching the highlights on Quest tonight.

So was I and just did, however if it is designed to be a "magazine" it failed dismally as it showed merely the highlights of the BV match that was shown live on Monday. And not a milisecond of KL V Ipswich . Why? And as for the Live overage it was exactly 30 mins of speedway racing ( including each race replayed ) 30 mins of so-so interviews and 90 mins of advertising. Will record it and watch it later in future to FF the copious ads.

Lol breaking the rules isn't just for the young,  just because they are now pensioners, they were young once:lol: might have been mods and rockers back in the day :P

Yeah! A Norfolk Rocker and we saw off those namby pamby mods at Yarmouth, that's for sure! I remember the enormous great cheer as a scooter was thrown into the sea, best place for it - some say.

i think it will be nigel kelvin and steve brandon

Commentary & presentation "out of the top drawer" then. I hope that they have added 3 or 4 ( or even half a dozen!) new phrases to go into the new era?

And then you had those dodgy weather meetings where normally the promoters and the ref would do everything to get the meeting through, TV, they give it the "we want to get the meeting through" but then they cut to commercial breaks and waste time just like always trying to pad it all out, whilst those at the track and even at home are shouting "get on with it"

That kind of shouting is never heard ( nor listened to ) and is viewed by Those Who Know Better as subversive and detrimental to the continued existence of the sport.

Talk about Bank Holiday doubles reminds me of the TRIPLES my parents and I went to for a few seasons. Rayleigh Speedway in the late morning followed by Rayleigh for PRI Bangers and either Anglia Rods or Mini Rods in the afternoon followed by the dash to Wimbledon for the evening Speedway. All done on public transport from Southfields with my mother having prepared a good lot of food that we had to carry around but at least the bags got lighter as the day went on.

In later years White City and Walthamstow doubles were also good but did not involve Speedway.

Triples are for Snowlflakes, I genuinely remember the one day in my speedway supporting careeer when I fitted in - just - a Quadruple. Oxford in the morning and a double header at Rye House in the afternoon and Coventry in the evening! Back home to Northampton, Happy but cream crackered. It was over an Easter Weekend ( trying to find the diary that I recorded the matches in ).

    No secrecy from me.

    If??

The people running British Speedway have consistently failed the sport for 20+ years. The fans are not the problem here, footfall through the turnstiles is all the proof needed.

There's been no "I told you so" from any of us that no longer go. We want this sport to be the best (which it can be) but the promoter's have zero ambition to do so. Their way to keep the money coming in is simply, as the crowd numbers fall, admission prices go up to make up the shortfall.

British Speedway's business model is run in an absolutely appalling way.

I agree completely BUT give me matches where at least 50% of the heats have close racing with passing or some very likelu prospect of passing and I would still go ( providing REAL efforts were made with all aspects of social distancing / toilts etc - being 72 and preferring not to die that Covid way ). But for too many years what they have sold me was boring and very poor VFM.
