any comments on Michal's riding?

Very promising I thought slav. Even though Michal only scored four third places he showed plenty of determination from the starts and into the frirst turns. Just about everyone else has had a lot of track time at Newport so it was always going to be difficult for him. He certainly didn't disgrace himself and I don't think he would have any problems in the Premier League. Not sure what average he would start on, but I would be happy to see him in the Newport team this year.

Impressive.

He is a gater and looked really good until he started into the backstraight and seemed to go down the order.

But give him some time on the track and get his confidence up and I think he will be quite a catch. :D

I did hear he would be coming in on an 8.0 average which seems to be a bit high(but what do I know!!) - is this true?

As for the afternoon -

An interesting journey thanks to the herd of deer (to complicated to explain here!)

Lovely sunny weather in Newport.

Good racing which included rubbing SCB's nose in it and a nearly Chris Harris win!!

Congrats to David but Chris had it sewn up from gate to finad bend and then just took his foot of the gas, possibly hit a rut which on any normal day he would have attacked but he slowed and Howe went past for the win.

Chris didnt look to disappointed though - he's a good sport.

2 of the final places were agreed by a toss of a coin and I will let SCB give you the quote of the day when he's next on line.

Good day out and a great fix of speedway. :D

He did well Slav - pretty fast from the tapes and looked better than his points would have you think. He got more confident as he got the track sorted out and I agree with Mark Poulton - I also think he'd do a good job in the PL - is a consistent gater and doesn't give up. Think he should be pleased with how he did - Newport isn't the easiest track to ride first time and he was up against a lot of Newport specialists.

Just got back from Newport. Very enjoyable meeting and credit to all the riders for a decent afternoon's entertainment. Some good racing and nice to get a fix before the season proper. Bomber was unlucky not to win but fair play to David Howe for taking advantage, although how the two of them didn't end up in a heap on the floor coming off that 4th turn i'll never now.

Thanks to Bren, Dave and Bob for another great day's travel as well. Great fun. :D

Great to have my speedway fix so early on in the year. Not a bad meeting. Good crowd and nice weather for most of the meeting. Well done, to David Howe, just a pity he didn't ride like that a year ago.

I agree with Rabbit. If Tim Stone hasnt already signed him,I would be delighted to give him a break.Shame Im not a promoter though!Despite having some difficult rides,he certainly mixed it well on the first turns.Only lack of track knowledge let him down.

Every single rider deserves praise for getting out there and having a go.A good sized crowd enjoyed some very good racing.

Cant wait for the season to start for real now.

Once again a delightful day out in the company of Rabbit,Brendan and Dave.

Cheers.

PS: Forgot to add...Even speedways Superdog,Thomas (and owner!),were there,as enthusiastic as ever.

A lot of the Newport supporters were well impressed with Michal and hoped that Tim would sign him on. Most of the racing was a bit predictable, although the riders were obviously there to race and not just ride around for 4 laps!

I thought bend four was a terrible, most of the riders were having big problems.

And I was a little disappointed in the Final which should of been the best race of the afternoon. Chris Harris gated well and took the lead easily with David Howe gaining ground on him especially in the last lap. A big mistake on the last bend cost Chris Harris the win. David Howe shot through to get 1st place.

Most entertaining races of the meeting were the conference league challenge rides when Tim Webster hung onto his bike for 4 laps, well done Tim!

Thoroughly enjoyed myself today despite being asked to pay an extra 50p each just to get to the bar!! A bit of a p*** take when you've just stumped up £14 each to get in.

The deep rut on bend 4 needs to be sorted out before the season starts, & before it causes a serious accident.

Having said that my son & I both enjoyed ourselves, even if we did have to swim to the bogs.

There was a bar on the the second bend too LT!

Also a massive rut on bend one which Richard Hall found to his cost!

Suppose all these can be put down to the recent weather tho?

Nice to see some speedway. Congratulations to Tim Webster and Sam Hurst for a brilliant race and for staying on. 3rd and 4th bend need serious sorting. No doubt this will be done before March.
