Searley 1 Posted February 3, 2008 Andrew Aldridge 2,3,3,3 (11) Andrew Aldridge had a good meeting and had a similar pace to Bunyan in his only defeat but never looked like getting past. I hope he does well at Rye House and can break into a Premier League side. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Really looking forward to seeing him at Rye. He could turn out very special indeed! iris123 21,177 Posted February 4, 2008 I can't believe Larry Ross is still going strong. Not sure if that says a lot about him or the standard of speedway in NZ nowadays.Almost a pity Mitch Shirra wasn't there as well

Larry beat Bunyan in the fastest time of the day to that point in Heat 12 but the standard in NZ is weak. I think it is improving but these guys need to have more competative meetings. More of them need to get to a point where they can ride professionally and then the bar will be raised for the next generation coming through. At the moment we have two Premier League reserve standard riders and a number who would score in the Conference League. Given the lack of interest and sponsorship in NZ it must be really hard for Kiwis to get across to Europe and allowing Commonwealth riders access to the Conference League will assist them up the ladder. It is a real shame Dale Finch was so badly injured last Easter. He is only seventeen (maybe 18 now) and was looking as talented as Ricky Wells at the time of his big crash. Mitch would probably spice it up a bit. I can still see him punching Kai Niemi in the pits at Arlington circa 1980 and then having a bit of a wrestling match with Bob Dugard as it all got a bit testy. Unfortunately it seems he has died as I saw his obituary in the Christchurch Press newspaper today. It said he had died as the result of an accident on the 25th February. He was only 19.
