Best One Yet?

Recommended Posts

Agree with most comments, this was my seventh and potentially last Cardiff due to relocation to another country. Here are my observations, they are my opinions and are not nessecarily the right ones.

1. Was the best result possible both for being a brit and for caning the bookies with a 123

2. Racing of the highest quality with the correct sportsmanship to go with it.

3. Absolute rubbish entrance.

4. Entertainment inaudible and seriuosly needs a massive improvement so many good acts out there that would die for that sort of crowd to play to.

5. Knowing that whatever the weather throws at us the meeting will survive.

6. Track as improved over the 7 years.

7. Attending the best spectacle and having people around you that are patriotic to the end but are still able to applaud and cheer all talent on display.

This was the best Gp of the last 7 at Cardiff and hopefully will not be my last but if it is then could not have asked for a better finale to see a brit stand on the top of the rostrum and acclaim a truly awesome rider.

Roll on Germany in October.

I've now been to all the Cardiff GPS - and after I said I'd never go to one 'cos I didn't want to put money into Ole Olsen's pocket!

Anyhow - every year I say how it's been the best one yet, and this was no exception. I agree that bringing the riders in on their bikes was a bit pants. But I bless the genius who finally realised that speedway and rock music go hand in hand. Inspired!

The pre-event "entertainment" if you can call it that - was second rate. Surely by now we could get some one decent? The first GP at Cardiff had the late, great Edwin Starr, and it's gone down hill from there - Suzi Quatro miming, some reject from Girls Aloud and Bonnie Tyler - I ask you!

Apart from noxious fumes from a chap seated in front of me (see "where are you sitting" thread) I had a great time - my view was sometimes obscured by people standing up in front of me - but then that was because either Chris or Scotty were in the race. I had to wait unti after I came home and saw my video to see Bomber crossing the line in the final! Worth the wait though.

The PA system near us was fine - and the announcer scored points as well, keeping the crowd up and going. Rumour has it he's the Eastie announcer - is this true?

I always love the fact the there is never any trouble - the Poles have a great time and their fun is infectious. I think the only time I've ever seen any trouble is when a group of fans - from their flags they were Poles - decided to urinate off the 4th floor of a car park last year. Unhygenic certainly, but no one was knifed or shot or beaten up.

The one question that foxed me all night - why did the stewards close the gates off just before the riders came out for their signing session? I can't remember them doing that in other years. When people were finally let in, it nearly caused a stampede up to the signing area.

On the good side of things - no handbag searches. Perhaps they've realised that speedway fans don't throw bottles/glasses etc at each other - I managed to take a bottle of Irn Bru and a couple of cartons of orange juice in this time and mother in law didn't have her usual annual battle to take water in - she needs it for a medical condition and in other years has had to fight them to get it in.

The track was no worse than I've seen it in previous years. Yes it's a shame because Parken had a brilliant track - I wonder why the track in Denmark was so special? Could it have anything to do with Mr Olsen being Danish? Hmm.

We went in through gate 1, and the bag searches seemed quite intensive. Had our 4 year old with us and had some crisps, fruit shoots and water in a bag. When it seemed clear we were in a jobsworth queue we switched queues and a nice fella said I shouldn't let them through but the little fella needs a drink. Thanks to that steward for the common sense.

Couple of points some of our group were sat on third bend top teir and towards the end they said there was a lot of trouble between some Polish and English fans and a big fight broke out and Police came in and escorted them out.

Also at the entrance we went in near the third bend by the river, the bags checking by security was stricter then ever but they were doing it before you got to the turnstiles not inside, must of been at least 30+ of them with big bins to put bottles in. I still managed to get two bottles of coke in my back pockets under my coat though.

Was a great nights racing and entertainment. With the temporary tracks you will always get a bit of unpredictability but the riders knew where the bumps and grooves were - if they chose to ride into them then more fool them :D

Awesome performance from Bomber

Thought Scotty deserved his semi final place for his efforts

Nice to see Crumpy knuckle down and produce probably his best ride of the GP season in overhauling Scotty

Lovely to see Hans, AJ and Nicki get up after their crashes

And one final comment.....just how many Poles were there :D

It was my 9th British Grand Prix(5 at Cardiff) and I thought it was the best one yet.

Well done to Bomber and also well done to Greg, there aren't many riders in the GP that would of given Bomber that much room after looking over their right shoulder down the back straight(no names mentioned, but i think we know who they are)

But still..the best GP ever.... The biggest crowd...brilliant racing...the right winner.
Sums it up.

Best GP ever no chance didnt you see the Polish GP last year fella.
Even with hindsight the Vega gets it wrong.

Still, I'm sure he had all his cash on Bomber to win!!!!

This was my 5th and as "Tony from Tile-It-All" says it was the BESTEST EVER.

My only only gripe was the late? withdrawal of the adult programme for all adult tickets bought before Dec 31.

I know a lot of people like me thought the same that the proggie was free.

I don't think a programme was ever included this time.

I was surprised by this thread, thought someone must have been taking the mick. Certainly the first half of the meeting wasn't up to much and if it hadn't been for Bomber, the meeting would have been rubbish. Second half was much better and I think the result must be making everyone think it was the best. It was definately a result to remember and probably the race of the season.

Well done, Bomber :)

Everyone says it was an excellent meeting and you don't agree for some unknown reason Joanne  even before the final it was an exciting meeting producing some fantastic riding, what in your opinion would of made it the best ever ........

Not alot of dirt, entertainment not very good, riders just came out on their bikes for parade just like a normal meeting and David Howe didn't get alot of attention in the build up.

Forget about the ending, and every other GP in Cardiff just about would have been better.
