no no no ,no sence at all,i state again that i was so excited about this event before xmas when we decided to go,this will run and run until i get a ex from mr ford,im livid, how can mr ford miss this anyway,it must of been going on in the pits for quite a while before the final, this does speedway no good at all, where will it stop,it could get out of hand with fans not knowing what race was won on merit and what isnt, complete shambles, get mr ford on here i want a word.there is no ifs and buts about this it should never have happened.

But the race was and always will be won on merit. Nickis sponsors would have insisted he won the race however much it was for. And his personnal pride, he was elated after the race and on the rostrum. I was there and do NOT feel cheated at all.

Eh?

There was no yarn being spun, the pot for the winner was £60k and Matt had no control over what the riders involved agreed between themselves.

From what I can see, there was no deception on the part of the promoters when it came to the prize, so they are blameless.

Anyway, I think what those four did was actually very sporting and generous and shouldn't really be called cheating the paying public, can you just imagine the comments if Nicki hadn't split? I can just see they would have been along the lines of " Bah that Nicki, taking 60k out of British speedway when he is not even bothering to ride here this year...money money money" (I hasten to add, I am in the Schumi camp on the reasons why Nicki is not riding here this season).

As a first try (in British racing), there will always be teething problems, or things you could not foresee as Pirate Nick says, hindsight is a wonderful thing, maybe in future they will change the contract to encompass this situation to prevent it happening again.

Even if I had been able to attend, I would not have felt cheated, I would have enjoyed the racing and been happy to think that all the riders in the final benefitted...but then I am that type of person.

Unbeleiveable. You look for the good in everyone Sue, which is commendable, but the actions of the riders is still an absolute disgrace and the mugs who have defended them on here is laughable. Its no wonder this sport is laughed at from outsiders. Any major sport and this gets an investigation by the governing body. Its a form of race fixing and with betting firms giving odds for this meeting then its very serious.

It was a £60k winner takes all. Billed as that for months. Nicki can do whatever he wants with his money, but what he can't do is hand over three quarters of it BEFORE the final race to his competitors! Jesus. It defeated the whole point of the meeting and the final itself. The four finalists treated the fans who turned up like mugs and put greed before integrity, but thats no surprise in this day and age.

Did the final four give a t*ss who won the final after they conjured up the equal splitting of the £60k? I'll leave it open to peoples interpretation.....

I'm sure MF & SS will put some sort of spin on this like it was already agreed months ago that this would be the case

Steve seems to be oblivious to the revelation as he has failed to comment at all,

and is indeed particularly conspicuous by his absence.

Can you imagine if this had occurred at Coventry ?.

well he was in the stand by the tapes for the last few races and just before the final he was escorting harry redknapp down to the centre green, so he wasn't anywhere near the pits!!

£60,000 FOR THE WINNER THATS REDICULOUS.

How about having a 2nd half meeting for some of the up and coming British riders with a £10,000 winners cheque as well, as I'm sure they could do with the money more than the big 5 foreign riders and cut the winnings to £50,000 in the main event.

Looks like Mr Ford decided that Eastie was right, well at least the first part.

Ford comes across as a decent guy and am sure he would have had nothing to do with the fixing and was probably livid when told they had decided before the race to split the £60k equally meaning the final meant nothing.

How can Shovlar be expected to comment? Matt Ford hasn't commented on the event yet so how will Shovlar know what he should say.

Here you go then, I'll make it quite simple for you, as you've now changed from the original point to arguing about opinions and whether or not Nicki wanted to ride here. I asked Nicki the very same question during the close season, and his answer was:

Can we put this to bed now? That must be categoric enough for you, unless you want me to put a date on when I asked the question (which I can do.)

waits for Stevebrum to say that is only Nicki's opinion safrican american

At the end of the day, Nicki still won the 60,000 and it's up to him what he does with it. If he wants to stick with the agreement made before the race then it's up to him. If he'd wanted to change his mind and pocket the lot, then that, too, would have been up to him.

I don't know why everyone gets so hung up on what other people do with their money. It's up to them (as long as it's legal).

Well, of course no one is suggesting that anything has been done illegally, but I wonder if anyone could enlighten on exactly how the 'split-up' of the money will work.

Surely, Nicki will have won the money, been given the cheque and that will go down in his tax return as £60,000 earned income (on which he will pay his tax, somehwere); so just how will the £15,000 payments go to the other riders and how will they be classed for taxation etc, earned income or gifts from N.Pedersen Esq?

I can't help pondering just how it all this looks to the uncommited observer; the winner of a sporting event gives the second, third and fourth placed competitors £15,000 each after the event... to many people on this forum it is described as a worthy gentleman's agreement... but can't you just see that to much more cynical and distrusting eyes it could end up in a 'Sunday Mirror' exclusive of the type we had in the mid-eighties...

A rumour spread by midgets :approve:

Is it me or is the silence coming from the most deluded & voicefrous Poole mouthpieces over this 60k, deafening

I don't think its silence, most of the Poole fans have had their say. Its people like you who weren't there and were probably slagging off this meeting before long before sunday who are repeating themselves over and over.

I agree that what those 4 finalists decided does make a slight mockery of the 'richest minute in speedway' tag. But I don't feel cheated, I think they all raced to win and I had a great day on Sunday, the only disappointment was Chris Harris who was awful.

It was a decision the riders have to defend, not Poole promoters or fans.

Can't disagree with you at all Hector. Generally speaking, I admire the ambition and innovation of the Poole promotion and I can't help feeling they (and the supporters) have been badly let down by the riders on this occasion. Amongst them they effectively killed off the whole point of the meeting. I hope the Poole promotion don't take this lying down and I hope the SGP takes note...the last thing we want to see is another four riders going through the motions for $50k each at the last GP of the season.
