It! - We rang the BSPA a few minutes ago and they stated that Crump and Andersen are riding.

The BSPA, and Coventry, stated that Andersen was riding last time the meeting was due to be staged, despite being confronted by a report in the Pboro ET stating that he wasn't.

If the weasel is there I'll be amazed!

It will be interesting to see how the sport treats the city of Birmingham. This month we have the Horse of the Year Show, and the EDF Half Marathon amongst other things going on here, (http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/GenerateContent?CONTENT_ITEM_ID=116067&CONTENT_ITEM_TYPE=0&MENU_ID=126) so if this ELRC doesn't end up the event it was promised to be, I can't see the Council being too keen to embarrass itself by involving itself with the sport of Speedway again...and remember, there is a Planning Application about to be considered...

A planning application is decided on planning grounds only.

Who rides in this meeting will have absolutely no bearing on the outcome.

Hm, we found out on the morning of the meeting last time that he wasn't riding.

From the BSPA.

Perhaps if he does pull out we should contact the BSPA and ask exactly why they stated the opposite.

Isn't it right that there was a 3 year lease or something?

So that 3 years is now up & a reapplication has to be made.

I take it some of the reasons may be the ongoing bugbear of noise.

Really annoying that one, all these complaints about 2 hours a week are pathetic.

I seem to recall Nigel Pearson did his own personal noise test by the student halls not so long back & couldn't hear a bloody thing from the stadium.

We rang the BSPA a few minutes ago and they stated that Crump and Andersen are riding.

COVENTRY captain Chris Harris has withdrawn from tonight's ELRC (7.30pm) after aggravating rib and back injuries.

Harris sustained the problem in a heavy crash in practice for the Italian Grand Prix, and did further damage when riding for the Bees at Belle Vue on Monday. His place tonight is taken by team-mate Billy Janniro.

Elsewhere, reports from the Swindon website indicate that Jurica Pavlic is out of the meeting with a twisted knee, his place going to Troy Batchelor.

It was confirmed at midday on Wednesday that Hans Andersen has failed a fitness test on his shoulder after a heavy crash at Belle Vue on Monday. He is replaced by Eastbourne's Lewis Bridger.

As it says...

Word of mouth - BSPA offices. Crump and Andersen riding.

Any rider who does not have a valid reason for his absence should be fined and suspended for 7 days even if it includes missing the GP. They are cheating the fans.

Cant ban them from the GP.

Problem being, if they refuse permission, the council then have to turn down other sports that create noise such as football. This was also stated when the application was first heard.

Also bear in mind the fact that the University complained of noise on a night when the meeting was rained-off.

I am optimistic that permission will be granted.

Perhaps evidence from the public enquiry of 1986 could be pulled out. This ruled in favour of the sport.

Planning applications are decided by PEOPLE. Worse than that, they are decided upon by people who are POLITICIANS. Politicians are just as capable of being influenced by events as anyone else.

Tell the Council that Speedway brings presitige and prosperity to the City and that turns them on. Put a Speedway event on that associates the name of the City with a joke you will get the reverse reaction.

Don't for one minute think that in the world of politics, hard facts are all that matter. Subjective opinions (especially the vote catching kind) count for a lot more.

Lindgren 25/1  , hes one of the few riders to ride at PB and likes the track. Cant believe Swiderski and Gjedde are ahead of him.

What un utterly ridiculous comment!

You are the kind of idiot that will see great riders walk away from British Speedway.

Hans's crash was nasty and he was in genuine discomfort, but that doesn't matter does it? He should ride regardless because you said so, whether he is hurt or not.

Yawn. What's the weather like over there in Germany Hans? It's nice and sunny here.

The fact that this 'great' gater has pulled this stunt 3 times in the last month is what sticks in the throat.

He rides as and when he pleases.

Oh of course, because he owes the BSPA a lot cos they treated him so well at P'boro.

Why would Hans ride through pain in a meeting that holds no real relevance to him?

He's been nothing but a model pro at Cov, as a Bees 'fan' you should know that.
