PREVIEW OF SWEDISH ELITSERIEN ROUND 16

Tuesday August 19th 2008

LEJONEN - MASARNAAAVESTA

at Axelent Arena, Gislaved

To meet Lejonen on the road is probably the toughest task of them all, and without Leigh Adams and Emil Sajfutdinov, that won't get any easier for MasarnaAvesta. The team management have been given order from the club board to ride with the cheapest possible line-up in this one, according to local media in Avesta.

The financial situation in the Avesta club is tough and talks have been about stepping down to Allsvenskan, even if the team managed to avoid the last place in the standing. Discussions are being held wihtin the organization so we'll have to wait and see.

About the meeting, the Lions will win 99 of 100 meetings with these line-up and this one will not be the 100th...

SMEDERNA - VÄSTERVIK

at Smedstadion, Eskilstuna

New team manager Bosse Jansson got off to a flying start as Smederna beat Piraterna last week, but they face another strong test tonight. Västervik won the derby clash with Dackarna last week, are at full strength now, and usually goes very well in Eskilstuna, having won three straight meetings in the three previous seasons.

The line-ups looks fairly evenly matched even though the Västervik heat leaders looks a bit stronger. However, the home advantage may erase that fact. An interesting meeting is ahead!

HAMMARBY - INDIANERNA TV-meeting

at Gubbängen, Stockholm

Canal+ will broadcast this meeting between 8th placed Hammarby and 6th placed Indianerna, a crucial meeting for the six available Play Off places.

Regarding the line-ups, Hammarby will - according to their website - be without Renat Gafurov (work permit problems) and he's replaced by Freddie Eriksson, but both Scott Nicholls and Matej Zagar should be back. For Indianerna, Jesper B Monberg crashed in Britain on Monday and is a doubtful starter for Indianerna. The Indians can't use the R/R facility for him as he's just third in the averages, so I guess "Henka" Gustafsson is on stand-by for him, but on the plus side, the away team can welcome Adrian Miedzinski back from injury.

Considering the many questionmarks in the team's line-ups, I won't make a prediction on the outcome.

Hammarby (home) 0 (44)

1. Rafal Dobrucki

2. Tomasz Gapinski

3. Scott Nicholls

4. Renat Gafurov Martin Smolinski

5. Piotr Protasiewicz

6. Simon Gustafsson

7. Krzysztof Jablonski

DACKARNA - PIRATERNA

at G&B Arena, Målilla

The Pirates' winning streak ended last week in Eskilstuna, but they're still the hottest team in the league. 4th placed Piraterna have a crucial meeting on Tuesday night against 2nd placed Dackarna where the points available are important to both teams as they try to get the advantage of choosing home/away in the quarterfinal stages (=top three in the standing).

Elitserien of 2008 is harder to predict than ever and it isn't easy to predict the outcome in Målilla.

Dackarna (home) 0 (42)

1. Fredrik Lindgren

2. Peter Karlsson

3. Hans Andersen

ROSPIGGARNA - ELIT VETLANDA

at Orionparken, Hallstavik

Certain teams seems destined not to win at certain tracks, with Elit Vetlanda at the Hallstavik track being one of those. 49-47 (2003), 50-46 (2004), 49-47 (2005), 48-47 (2006) and 53-43 (2007) are numbers that tells are story about close meetings with all of them going in favour of the home side. The ten point difference from last year doesn't reflect how close it really was.

Elit Vetlanda should - once again - be hopeful of some success tonight, with ex-Rospiggarna riders Lee Richardson and Karol Zabik as two key members for the outcome of this one. Team manager Fredrik Staaf makes several changes from last week's line-up, replacing Holta, Dryml and Risager with Crump, Zabik and Törnqvist. For the home side, manager Messing misses the services of the injured Jonas Messing at reserve while Charlie Gjedde AFAIK has been left out of the team after some sub-par performences lately.

Another cracking meeting can be expected at Orionparken tonight, that's for sure, but I won't be there. :o

Rospiggarna (home) 0 (44)

1. Greg Hancock

2. Lubos Tomicek

3. Janusz Kolodziej

4. Chris Slabon

5. Adam Shields

6. Travis McGowan

7. Andreas Messing

( 8. - )

Elit Vetlanda (away) 0 (52)

1. Jaroslaw Hampel

2. Thomas H Jonasson

3. Lee Richardson

4. Peter Ljung

5. Jason Crump

6. Robin Törnqvist

7. Karol Zabik

( 8. Robin Aspegren )

All meeting will be covered by live updates on www.speedway.nu from 19:00 hours.

The Rospiggarna V Elit Vetlanda looks a close run thing, if Zabik can score well, I would take the away team to win this.

Did Nicholls ride? I thought he was withdrawing from riding again for Hammarby as part of his new regime...or did I mis-read that? Wouldn't be the first time ;)

i have no idea. if its a puncture lung that means he got fractured ribs as well which is very painful. according to medical guidance website it will take 1-2 months to heal a fractured rib.

Cheers Sube - trying to keep up with all these goings on recently is a nightmare!

Really hope that Jonas isn't injured as badly as the reports indicate. He's been a reformed character this season which is great to see.

SWEDISH ELITSERIEN ROUND 16

Tuesday August 19th 2008

LEJONEN - MASARNAAAVESTA 8-4

Attendence: -

Abandoned after 2 heats. Result doesn't stand.

New date: TBA

*-*-*

SMEDERNA - VÄSTERVIK 40-56 (Aggregate: 84-108)

Attendence: 1910

Heat details, courtesy of www.speedway.nu.

The Blacksmiths lost Jonas Davidsson to injury in his first heat and was naturally a big factor in the outcome of this meeting. His status is unknown to me at the moment.

Jagus/King tied the meeting at 18-18 after 6 but the home side fell back before the interval and was down by 25-35 after 10 heats, and could never recover. King/Kasprzak were on the opposite side of two maximums in heats 12 & 14 as track specialist Niels-Kristian Iversen recorded two paid maximums in those heats.

Smederna (home) 40 (84)

1. Jonas Davidsson Fx-N-N-N = 0 (1)

2. Robert Miskowiak 3-1-1-0-2 = 7 (5)

3. Wieslaw Jagus 3-2*-2-2-3-3 = 15+1 (6)

6. Krzysztof Buczkowski 2-0-0-0-3 = 5 (5)

7. Linus Eklöf 0-0-N-1 = 1 (3)

DACKARNA - PIRATERNA 55-41 (Aggregate: 97-94)

Attendence: 3520

Heat details, courtesy of www.speedway.nu.

Despite an 11 point lead heading down to Målilla, the Pirates weren't even able to hold on to the aggregated point. They had it with a heat to go, but a maximum by Andersen/Jonsson against Okoniewski/Kosciecha got the home side all three points available on the night. A bit of a surprise, that must be said.

Dackarna (home) 55 (97)

1. Fredrik Lindgren 1*-1*-3-2*-3 = 10+3 (5)

2. Peter Karlsson 2-1*-2-1 = 6+1 (4)

3. Hans Andersen 3-3-3-3-3 = 15 (5)

4. Lukas Dryml 2*-2*-2*-1-0 = 7+3 (5)

6. Claus Vissing 0-1-F-N = 1 (3)

7. Ludvig Lindgren 1-2-1-1 = 5 (4)

4. Rafal Okoniewski 0-3-3-T-0-1 = 7 (6)

5. Ryan Sullivan 2-Ef-0-N = 2 (3)

7. Linus Sundström 2*-0-N-2* = 4+2 (3)

ROSPIGGARNA - ELIT VETLANDA 39-57 (Aggregate: 83-109)

Attendence: 2238

Heat details, courtesy of www.speedway.nu.

Scandinavian GP Wild Card Peter Ljung were involved in the two maximums that turned the meeting around for the away team. After being down by 8-4, Elit Vetlanda quickly turned it into a 17-13 lead themselevs, and never looked back. The lonely Greg Hancock didn't get any support, or so it seems, from his teammates while Elit Vetlanda seems to have produced a solid performence throughout for the first win in Hallstavik in over 10 years!

Rospiggarna (home) 39 (83)

1. Greg Hancock 3-3-3-3-3-2 = 17 (6)

2. Lubos Tomicek 2*-1-0-0-Ef = 3+1 (5)

3. Janusz Kolodziej 1-0-0-1 = 2 (4)

4. Chris Slabon 0-2-2-1*-0 = 5+1 (5)

5. Adam Shields 2-0-2-1-1 = 6 (5)

6. Travis McGowan 1*-1*-0-N-1 = 3+2 (5)

7. Andreas Messing 2-T-1-0 = 3 (4)

8. -

Elit Vetlanda (away) 57 (109)

1. Jaroslaw Hampel 1-3-1*-3-3 = 11+1 (5)

2. Thomas H Jonasson 0-1-2-0 = 3 (4)

3. Lee Richardson 2*-1*-3-Ef-2* = 8+3 (5)

4. Peter Ljung 3-2*-2-2*-1 = 10+2 (5)

5. Jason Crump 3-3-2-2-3 = 13 (5)

6. Robin Törnqvist N-N-N-N = 0 (0)

7. Karol Zabik 3-0-3-1-0-3 = 10 (6)

8. Robin Aspegren 0-2* = 2+1 (2)

HAMMARBY - INDIANERNA 50-46 (Aggregate: 94-98)

Attendence: 1578

Heat details, courtesy of www.speedway.nu.

The Canal+ broadcast from Stockholm wasn't a good meeting at all, I'm sorry to say it actually produced very poor entertainment.

Hammarby, with Matej Zagar back in the team but still without the injured (shoulder) Scott Nicholls, opened up an early lead against a Indianerna team that simple wasn't up for it in the early stages. The second half of the meeting was better for the Indians as they climbed back to force a last heat decider but Protasiewicz/Monberg couldn't beat MOTM Gapinski who secured two vital points for Hammarby.

Hammarby (home) 50 (94)

1. Rafal Dobrucki R-1-3-2-2-0 = 8 (6)

2. Tomasz Gapinski 2-3-2-3-2-3 = 15 (6)

3. Scott Nicholls R/R (3,2,3,0)

4. Martin Smolinski 2*-1*-2*-2-0-2 = 9+2 (6)

5. Matej Zagar 1*-2-2-0-0-0 = 5+1 (6)

6. Kim Nilsson 2*-N-N-3 = 5+1 (2)

7. Freddie Eriksson 3-2-0-1*-0-2* = 8+2 (6)

8. -

Indianerna (away) 46 (98)

1. Jesper B Monberg 3-3-0-1-3-1* = 11+1 (6)

2. Adrian Miedzinski 1-R-3-1-1 = 6 (5)

3. Matej Ferjan 1-0-N-1 = 2 (3)

4. Magnus Zetterström R-3-2-0-1-3 = 9 (6)

5. Piotr Protasiewicz 3-1-3-3-3-2 = 15 (6)

6. Simon Gustafsson 0-1-N-1 = 2 (3)

7. Krzysztof Jablonski 1-0-N-0 = 1 (3)

( 8. - )

For Hammarby,

Dobrucki had some good heats, but didn't shine. Gapinski was excellent for this being only his second meeting back from injury. Smolinski was always in contention and produced vital points throughout the night. Good second string effort! Zagar didn't do much, to my dispair (since I have him in my Speedway Manager fantasy team). Nilsson must feel gutted by only getting two heats. Eriksson took most points against opposition reserves, as he should. Solid work.

For Indianerna,

Monberg was patchy to say the least. Miedzinski looked awful early on but improved. Ferjan had a decent third one but generally was as bad as he can be on his worst kind of day. Zetterström gated for his points but tried hard when behind as well. Worth his points. Protasiewicz was class, but had no answer to Gapinski in his last. Gustafsson hasn't much of a hot streak at all, sad to see because he has so much talent. Jablonski was actually better than the score suggested, can't believe he ended with just a single point.

Man of the match: Tomasz Gapinski

Most exciting rider: -

but still without the injured (shoulder) Scott Nicholls

When did this happen, or is it just the official reason they have a facility?

There's talk of a punctured lung, although I have not seen a proper confirmation on that.
