LONDON SPEEDWAYS is interested in all major championships staged at all the London tracks from 1928 - that's those with a reasonable lifespan. cityrebel 2,960 Posted June 5, 2009 the 1968 laurels won by barry briggs was the first meeting i ever went to. i remember the stadium was still wet from the floods caused by the river wandle bursting it's banks earlier in the month. i lived near to the track and had to be rescued by rowing boat from my upstairs bedroom window!!!. I will have to look it up to see what date it was though Pretty sure the flood was September 68. There used to be markers on the wall showing the water depth - wonder if they are still there . . . Re the trophy meetings - cant remember if it was the Internationale or the Laurels - but there was a very nice large shield presented to the winner - but it was usually kept at the stadium in a cabinet afterwards. I wonder what happened to that . . . The large trophy was the Laurels, it would be intresting to find out what happened to that, and other trophies that were at Plough Lane.
