My opinion is Steve doesn't only want King to fail he wants Rob Lyon to fail as Rossiter was his preferred choice

Fully agree, Steve Shovlar (and others) can not wait for this to go wrong to come on here and call the manager inept and other such words. I hope they do ok and make through to the semi's. I doubt very much some of the posters on here will then have the guts to come back and admit they were wrong.

I think thats the point though Ashie the chances are they will be coming back to say that they were right ........ at some stage of this SWC our youngsters of course will not be strong enough and the real benefits of this will be seen in future years

a perfect scenario for people that want to score points on forums

The Slovenian team:

Matej Zagar

Maks Gregoric

Izak Santej

Denis Stojs

Aleksander Conda

Why no Matej Ferjan?

I don't think that Rob Lyon has any pre conceived ideas that we will win the World Cup or probably even come close. I think his opinion is that we should clear the decks and start from scratch, which I wholeheartedly agree with. We must not expect much from the World Cup for the next year or two, but we are building for the future. Remember Rome wasn't built in a day!!

FWIW I wouldn't expect our chances of winning the World Cup to be any greater if we were led by Rob Lyon, Alun Rossiter or Harry Potter for that matter, but I'm pretty sure that the last 2 would pick our best rider. It's clear to see that Scott is struggling badly, but Rico has been superb this year, regularly out-performing the other Brits in Poland and Sweden and averaging more than any of them domestically as well. Mystifying.

Rico didn't take his place as reserve in the Cardiff GP and at Belle Vue last night due to a kidney infection-do you think this might have anything to do with it, i.e. resting him for as long as possible to get over it before the race-off?

You may well be right, Chalkie. I know that a few of us posted last night that there may be more to this than was evident at first glance, but if that was the case then it should have been made clear when the team was announced. From what Bridger said, it looks like they are assuming that Rico will be fit for the Thursday, and if that's the case then surely he should be in the side on Monday as well?

I'm all for giving the youngsters a go,but think it should be a gradual introduction,Tai last year,Lewis this year, until eventually the're all in.Bit odd that its at Peterborough, surely we prefer a track that was less like home for the poles.

in my opinion we have gone from one extreme to the other ,last year everyone was saying to many has beens and not enough youth but now we have gone the other way to much youth not enough experiance i believe we have to give youth a chance to gain experiance but we also need the old heads there to help and guide

personally i would have gone with richardson instead of king to give a better balance

scott maybe a good rider but at the minute is struggling for form especially at international level

fingers crossed it works for british team and we make it to the final but that i think is the best we can hope for this year

Think Lyons should be applauded for bringing in the Lion Cubs ....

It is simply an win win situation, last years Team GB performance at Coventry was dire, on a home track they were pitiful !!

Any likelyhood of beating both Australia and Poland at Peterborough is fairly remote so this gives Lyons the opportunity of giving the youngsters experience on the world stage with little chance of it blowing up in there face.

Slovenia are virtually a one man team in Matej Zagar , therefore Team GB should be safe in securing a play-off place whatever the result. In Poland Richardson and possibly Nicholls can be brought in if so desired for experience.

Whatever the situation any performance has to be an improvement on 2008. Last season everyone was moaning at the team and shouting for the young guard to be brought in , now Lyons has done so.

Team GB are unlikely to win anything in the next 3/4 years so this gives the team an opportunity to gain a speedway education. If the SCB had any idea the team should be spending all weekend at the Peterborough getting dialled into conditions and the track.

Good post.....apart from the popular use of "everyone",said this or that.Seen it a few times lately, sonot really picking on your use.But come on,maybe 20 or 30 people if you are lucky says something......that doesn't mean "everyone" says it or agrees with it.Most times it is just 5 or 6 people saying the same thing over and over......that does not constitue "everyone"

Nuff said on the subject

Let's be honest. The OZ are gonna win this anyway aren't they so why not give the youngsters a shot at it?I take my hat off to Lyon for sticking to his guns.

Richardson will be in the team at Leszno, he is by far the best Brit in Poland, but as for Scott who knows, the way Lewis was talking last night didn't suggest Scott would be in.
