Newport Hornets ~ V ~ Buxton Hitmen

Recommended Posts

Official Media Release

HORNETS AIM TO KEEP UP MOMENTUM

The Newport Hornets aim to keep up their recent unbeaten run when they face the Buxton Hitmen in a National League fixture at Queensway Meadows on Friday evening with tapes up at 7pm.

However, there is no complacency in the camp and this is reflected by 17-year-old number one Todd Kurtz. 'We have excellent team talks from our veteran skipper Tony Atkin in which he keeps all talk of being top of the league in the background and makes us concentrate on the immediate match we are about to race. Each match at a time is genuinely how we are dealing with our season and we do not underestimate anybody.'

Good advice as Buxton have the League Riders' Champion Craig Cook at number one and the experienced Adam Allott in support at the top end of the team while Nick Morris and Robert Branford are two young Australians who have made quite an impact in their first full season in British Speedway.

Kyle Newman returns to the Hornets line-up after being on Premier League duty with Birmingham and so a solid one to seven is on track.

NEWPORT HORNETS:

2. Nick Morris

3. Rider replacement for Jonathon Bethell

4. Robert Branford

The match will be followed in the Wasps Nest bar by a special fund raising event for the new floodlights. Nick Mallett and track curator David Dean will be subjected to 'THE BIG WAX' with both having bravely volunteered to have their chests waxed at £5 a strip !!!!!

There is more speedway action on the Sunday afternoon when the Newport Wasps take on the Scunthorpe Scorpions in Premier League action with tapes up at 2.30pm.

Should be a good match against a Buxton side that look to have quality right through their side. All the Hornets will have to be on top form in this one.

Thanks for posting the Official Media Release Helen, can you confirm that Kyle will in fact be with us on Friday and not perhaps in Poole getting his hair dyed...........after all, last week's version had Kyle riding for us when he was in fact in Scotland on Brum's tour of that region

Just thought I'd ask

Is Allott allowed to ride seeing he was a guest for Rye House last friday (see reg 18.3)

Basically --yes. He is riding for his own club this Friday. This fixture was arranged only last Friday and confirmed at about 5pm --with thanks going to Jayne Moss and the Hitmen for agreeing at short notice to come giving Mildenhall , who were due in a NT meeting , more time to get their situation sorted.

Therefore no one knew last Friday when the riders arrived for the Newport v Rye House fixture that Adam would be back for his own club 7 days later --so commonsense prevails!!

I sincerely hope you'll be shouting me mate Chopper a drink on Friday night, Laurence? He's been over there that long now he'll have forgotten what a decent beer looks like! Better keep Dietbowers away from him - don't want him to come back a Scrumpy Addict! Go Team Branford!!

Should be a ripper match with two top teams lining up; not sure if Robert or Nick have ridden Newport yet so far this season but they're coming to terms with most tracks pretty quickly.

PS Just heard that a certain close relation to Nick Morris is on his way over; answers to 'Its your shout, Lee'.

You'd better get another Carton ready, he'll be thirsty!

Being Australian he'd probably not tasted a decent beer before arriving in the UK!

(Edited for Accuracy)

I did hear he was at the Walkabout in Cardiff for the GP, whether he was lucky enough to afford a Crownie at the inflated prices they charge is anyone's guess.

Pro Tip: European Beers > Australian Beers. Fact.

Perhaps we should start a thread in GD about the merits of both! :)

I'm sorry Lawrence, I just don't get this commonsense prevails stuff.

Nothing personal against Adam of course but you are saying that at 5pm last Friday, the fixture with Buxton for this Friday was confirmed after which Adam then rode for Rye as a guest from 7pm meaning he would be due to ride at Newport twice within 7 days.

If this is not against the rules then please say so but if it is then Adam should have be barred from guesting for Rye last Friday as it was known before the start of the meeting that he would be back within 7 days.

I'm not advocating that we stop a bloke from earning a living or that we don't see a competitive match but what about the glaring inconsistencies here.

The Wasps can't use r/r for Mellgren because it's against the rules but Rye can use Allott against the Hornets because "commonsense prevails".

What is going on?
