Dornier 797 Posted December 23, 2010 Theres no such thing as a team not having a number one . The rider with the highest average in that team is number one . Because the BSPA have made a rule saying each team can only have one rider over eight points it is now assumed that a rider is a number one if he has an average of eight plus . This is a classic example why rules should not be changed all the time, eventually you get yourself in a knot

Aces51 2,778 Posted December 23, 2010 A No.1 is a rider who has the ability to compete on a level with and beat on a regular basis the top rider of opposing teams. Most experienced fans can identify who is who isn't a No.1. When BV ran in 2007 with Simon Stead as their best rider it was generally acknowledged that he was not a No.1 rider. Steve Shovlar 10,439 Posted December 23, 2010 If Coventry and Peterborough come back we could well lose another EL team who are far from happy with what's going on. Coventry and Peterborough might not be back quite so easily.

Dogstar 3 Posted December 23, 2010 If it was down to track appeal, I'd prefer Coventry and Peterborough over the awful KL circuit.
Dogstar 3 Posted December 23, 2010 I meant Kirky Lane and not Kings Lynn.

If it was down to track appeal, I'd prefer Coventry and Peterborough over the awful KL circuit. Well, I suppose it comes down to the democratic vote and all that, 9 against 1 ? Steve Shovlar 10,439 Posted December 23, 2010 (edited) Greedy Coventry hogging a couple of the top riders again while another club goes completely without. The BSPA did the right thing for all EL clubs with the one over 8 rule. The morale of the story is simple. Don't sign new number one riders up on two year contracts before an AGM, or you could get bitten on the backside. Jumped the gun twice before the AGM, did Coventry. If it was athletics they would be disqualified. Edited December 23, 2010 by Steve Shovlar
Aces51 2,778 Posted December 23, 2010 Well, I suppose it comes down to the democratic vote and all that, 9 against 1 ? 9:1, there are only 8 teams in the EL. Anyway surely all Coventry fans would support a club which fought for transparency and fairness.

You can always get bitten on the backside if you sign a rider on any more than a one year deal. That's one of the problems with the way the sport is run with rules changing yearly, or even more often. And it's the 'moral' of the story. There's very little 'morale' in el speedway at the moment I'd say. Edited December 23, 2010 by Vincent Blackshadow
