Scorpions and Saints looking for bank holiday bonuses

The Eddie Wright Raceway stages the second of its 2011 Bank Holiday double-headers on Monday (2nd May, 5pm start time) with promoter Rob Godfrey looking for a repeat of Easter Monday’s excitement and results. “We had two close meetings which went to last heat deciders for the bonus points. Both the Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions and Jotun Paints Scunthorpe Saints clinched victory which made me very happy and hopefully both sides can claim the bonus points this week.”

“Edinburgh have a great record at our place having won on three of their four visits but there will be a lot of pressure on their new reserve pairing. Lee Dicken and Kyle Howarth have just come in to replace Ashley Morris and Jay Herne and have got to take at least eleven rides between them with them using rider replacement for Kalle Katajisto. Of course their top four are all top performers around our track and in Andrew Tully they have a former track record holder. However, David Howe will be back after the birth of his daughter, Ava, and I believe we can defeat anyone at home when we are full-strength. It certainly has the makings of another great meeting”.

“For the first time ever the track was a bit too heavy for a day time meeting last week. It meant there wasn’t the same amount of passing in the Scorpions meeting but it did mean the Saints meeting was a classic and I’m expecting two classic meetings this week. We’ve got a strong Saints side out this week with Greg Blair remaining in the side and Gary Irving and Richie Worrall available again. We’ve had to rest Paul Cooper because he’s unavailable to ride in the following night’s meeting at Wolverhampton but the side is still strong and it will need to be. Hackney, like King’s Lynn last week, have some outstanding young riders with Marc Owen, Shane Hazelden and Brandon Freemantle three of the south’s very best. Hazelden and Freemantle are in the reserve berths so if one or both of them have good meetings it could be very interesting. They have Barrie Evans, who once scored a maximum at our track, as their number one along with David Mason and then there is Ben Hopwood who was briefly with the Saints”.

“We had a good crowd last Monday and with the start time back at the usual 5pm we are hoping to be finished around 8pm this week. Hopefully we’ll get another big turn out to cheer on the boys. We have two great sets of riders who always give it their all and I’m sure we’re going to be entertained with some outstanding racing once again”.

Before Monday’s meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway the Scorpions are in Scotland on Friday (29th April, 7.30pm) when they travel to Armadale to face the Edinburgh Monarchs in the first of the weekend’s two Premier League meetings between the two sides.

Thats a strong looking saints team for a home meeting around the EWR,the slicker conditions may help the Hawks a little but expect a comfortable home win here,Just hope Greg Blair forgets his gating boots again, pure entertainment!!

Shame the Scunthorpe v Hackney match couldn’t have had it own thread. Certainly Scunthorpe have a decent side and expect a good match. Indeed the track will be slicker after the Edinburgh match, but lets hope for a great advert for National League Speedway and of course a Hackney win!

I didn't think the track would be up to much for the second match last week but anyone who was there will tell you that the NL meeting was brilliant. :approve:

Here's hoping for the same again today :)

WOW!......SAINTS TAKE A BOW! Jet propelled out of the gates and a red and blue helmet into the lead coming out of bend 2 in almost all the races. A huge well done to all riders and Stuart Parnaby....you guys have given us another terrific meeting. Hard luck Hackney you caught the Saints when they were all on fire! Hope that wasn't a blown engine in heat 15 for Greg Blair as fans near me predicted.
