sancho 28 Posted August 7, 2011 Taken fron Coventry website OFFICIAL STATEMENT Sunday August 07, 2011 COVENTRY Speedway and Edward Kennett accept the findings of the technical examinations of silencers following the Elite League fixture at Lakeside on Saturday. The Buildbase Bees won the match 48-42, but the result has now been amended to 42-30 in the Hammers’ favour following the withdrawal of points scored by Kennett. Kennett’s silencer was found not to conform to the regulations and he will now serve a mandatory one-week ban, and attend a Disciplinary Court Hearing, with the Bees permitted to use the rider-replacement facility for the forthcoming away matches at Peterborough (Monday) and King’s Lynn (Wednesday). All five other silencers which were tested, including those of Ryan Fisher and Przemyslaw Pawlicki for Coventry, were found to be legal and will be returned to the riders. Following the SCB disciplinary hearing, the club will be taking its own internal action against Edward Kennett if necessary, and we can also confirm that the captaincy will pass to Ryan Fisher with immediate effect. Coventry Speedway has a long and proud history, and under no circumstances does the club condone cheating of any kind, whether that relates to race fixing or machine tampering. The club are shocked and disappointed by the actions of their captain, and would like to stress that no member of the Coventry management had any knowledge of Edward Kennett’s silencer tampering. We would like to re-assure all speedway supporters that the management are as appalled by his actions as any fair-minded supporter would be. Coventry wish to express sincere apologies to British Speedway, its supporters, and in particular the supporters of Coventry and Lakeside who attended the meeting on Saturday, for this unacceptable misdemeanour. We would also like to thank the licenced officials at Lakeside for bringing the matter to the referee’s attention, and for dealing with it in a professional manner. Jugding by that guilty as charged
screm 8,057 Posted August 7, 2011 I hope wee Nick doesn't incur any repercussions over using Kennet's bike . That would be very harsh, the fault lies with Kennett and nobody else.
Sandie 53 Posted August 7, 2011 Can someone clear up how the Masden situation was dealt with last year. Was it proven, was he suspended and how does it compare to the Kennett situation. Kennett is guilty as has been proven this morning and I doubt he will protest the ban. BUT the question is - Did he do it knowingly? Was he aware of the tampering, can a well constructed silencer show its been tampered with or not? He changed from Prodive to King I understand but I'm not sure when and do all riders buy new or do some use 2nd hand or borrowed silencers? Could this be a reason? I'm clutching at straws here, but I find it hard to believe that Ed was aware of this. Why go out and get a maximum? Surely that is just raising suspicion, although it was his gating that got him out there in the first place. And why lend Nick his bike? Not everything adds up here and I feel sorry for Ed and his team.

Robbobee 144 Posted August 7, 2011 Just seen Coventry Bees official statement on their website and to be fair a very good statement it is too .... as for Kennett ... sack him despite his efforts in the past and this season - how many other points has he scored using a dodgy sliencer then? What an abuse of his position as a rider and a captain for god's sake of the Bees ....

Personally I'm not bothered if he never rides again after this

Woz01 3,589 Posted August 7, 2011 As he didn't think he'd get caught? It was highlighted after heat 7 i believe. What a good statement the Bees management has put out, everything you want them to say is there.
Robbobee 144 Posted August 7, 2011 Wonder if Hans Anderson has his phone switched on. Think Hans Andersen gsa too high as replacement for Kennett .... How does Andersen for Brummies and Kasprzak for Bees as Kennett's replacement fit?
SCB 0 Posted August 7, 2011 Excellent statement from the club, that hopefully hints at his imminent dismissal if Rosco can find an adequate replacement. Surely all an "adequate replacement" needs to be is someone with a bike thats not illegal. If thats some 16 year old kid who gets lapped then thats what it takes. I'd prefer to lose legally than win illegally.
The Little Un 47 Posted August 7, 2011 Surely Dave King would have found out exactly what had been done this am As I understand it the inspection was of the exterior of the silencer. I believe the silencer will now be taken back to Dave King's premises and he will check out the interior of the silencer to see what exactly that tampering entails.
