Big changes happening in Flims,Switzerland starting this weekend. The club is in new hands after 15 years, including Swiss rider Dirk Fricke. They have a deal with a tv company and they hope the meeting will not only be shown on local, but national tv both this year and in the future. They also have plans to make the Golden Spike a multi nation series and also hope to open new tracks in Switzerland.

The second day starts at 3pm, and will be on Polish TV. I'm not able to find a link, but I'm sure someone will.

I'm looking forward to Heat 40 when Russia meet Austria and if all goes to plan we may see Austria as the Champions.

Franky and Harry have got team riding down to a fine art and decimated everyone last night, dropping their only points to the Russians with a 3-3 in Heat 3. Krasnikov may be Russian Champion, but he was riding like a novice in his opening ride, letting the Austrians through. His second in Heat 10 was over the Austrians and he and Koltakov team rode so well to keep Jan Klatovsky out. But in Heat 15 against the Finns, he pulled up with engine problems, gifting the disappointing Finns a 3-3. That could be crucial when they get to Heat 40, as the Austrians are riding like they mean to win.

I'm just about thawed out from last night, as it dropped to around -10'C last night and it was snowing too.

Must admit, I'm impressed with the organisation of this meeting, having been here since Wednesday working with the promoters, and watching the organisation. The promoter is a hard task master but he gets the job done, as he was rewarded with a great meeting last night. Plus, the Polish team are not, as predicted by many insiders, in last place. Knapp is maturing into a fine rider with the potential to be one of the sports greats!

I do think the Austrians were unlucky today, as they were on maximum points coming into Heat 40. The race was a cracker with Zorn Simon and Koltakov battling for the points. For them to lose that race meant a run off, and Ivanov was just faster out of the gate.

Knapp got an award for the best pass of the day which was his overall performance over the weekend, but that race with the Russians was a good one too. Ivanov leaning on him was his downfall, but needless to say he will learn from it and be a better rider. He is certainly one to watch.

Sweden certainly pulled themselves up to third, after the Czechs made a few silly mistakes. Jan appears to have the better racing head on at the moment, as Antonin made daft mistakes.

Germany could have done better but the rift between Bauer and the rest is still huge, as I don't think I saw him speak to his team mates all weekend, whilst Finland relied too much on an unfit Antti Aakko.

Overall it was a good meeting but IT WAS BLOODY COLD!!! Despite my winter gear my fingers were numb and my toes equally so, but Sanok is an experience to try if you've never been.

Like Rusky,i thought the stream was superb. The rider pics on the graphics looked a bit amateur, cut out with no background and what happened to the Bauer photo? And as ever the problem of the same riders not looking into the camera, whether photo or video grrrrrr. Can't really complain with the result.Best team won, even if it would have been nice to have an Austrian win.Seemed to me that mistakes made the final placings rather than racing.Bauer mucked up one turn and i wonder if Klabo is top fit.He did miss a meeting a couple of weeks back with illness. He didn't seem himself. Was good to see some of the best heats from day 1.Thought Aakko was unlucky against Poland. He had that race in the bag imo until Strugala fell and in the re-run Knapp took his chance.Dissapointed in Pletschacher who normally is quick out of the gate, but Bauer didn't have much back up,same with Aakko(pity Järf wasn't there)and Knapp. Will Finland make way for the Netherlands next year?

What was the problem with the track. Not very good a Belgian/Dutch,but it seemed the commentator was talking about mayybe a 1 or 2 hour delay or even postponing the meeting until today? The riders seemed to have a track walk and obviously found the track ok.But did drag things out a bit, especially for the fans out in the cold.Did seem to be lots of track prep breaks or was that just my impression?

I spoke to Stefan Svensson and Franky Zorn about the track, and even managed a few words with Danil Ivanov, whose English is good. The consensus was that the track was soft in parts and a bit wet. There were also some rough patches which hadn't been given a good covering by the Zamboni. The riders were concerned it wouldn't be safe but after a track walk they all decided to ride, as some of them had to leave Sunday regardless. Stefan told me that the track was better than they had feared, although it rutted up a lot faster than it should have, and the racing was good (his words).

Having said that I do think it would be helpful if the Announcer had told the fans what was happening in another language to Polish, as some Austrians were struggling to understand what was being said whilst we stood around for 40 minutes after the parade as the temperature plummeted!
