Parsloes 1928 nearly 495 Posted June 13, 2013 Hmm, what on earth was the motivation for the title of this individual event held at Kingsmead in 1976? Won by Canterbury rider who had something of a JC hairstyle back then, Les Rumsey. But why name a Speedway meeting after a Lloyd Webber Musical..?!

oldace 1,678 Posted June 14, 2013 Sponsorship??? Unlikely, more likely just trying to cash in on the smash hit production that ran for 8 years from 1972. Bit like having a "one direction trophy" today

duncrusadin 2 Posted June 20, 2013 According to the programme, prizes for this meeting were supplied by David Land, the show's millionaire producer, and Mr and Mrs G Cox. In Johnnie's programme notes, he refers to the time that he and Mr Land were "both skint in London". Les won the meeting with a faultless 15 point maximum, followed by Eastbourne's Steve Weatherley on 13 and Ted Hubbard (by then at Rye House) with 12.

Thank you for that - I thought it might have had something to do with the 'Show'. :)
