Eagle727 21 Posted August 7, 2014 (edited) Terrible news for both rider and club... best wishes to Lewis for a full and speedy recovery... But surely the Eagles bosses can follow the example of their cousins from along the coast and use a liitle bit of creative rule manipulation to bring in an adequate replacement for the rest of the season... If it's good for the goose,,, and surely no-one in British speedway would want to see what could be Eastbourne's final season fizzle out with a wimper... brewer 159 Posted August 7, 2014 Firstly, atb to Lewis and hopefully a speedy and full recovery, As regards Eastbourne, maybe as the draft has been "tweeked" so to speak this week, maybe now it would be right and proper to allow the likes of Birks/Roynon to be put on the list for an injury replacement such as this. I was thinking that last night. Let them have Birks. Birks gets his place, Eastbourne get a rider. Up to 4 weeks ago theyw ere averaging 6.87 and 6.89 in the PL too so as like-for-like as you can get.
ruckerroo 792 Posted August 7, 2014 Won't they be able to have the pick of the draft to guest til sept 1 , he's irreplaceable really, terrible for rider and club
mdmc82 2,878 Posted August 7, 2014 Won't they be able to have the pick of the draft to guest til sept 1 , he's irreplaceable really, terrible for rider and club Although not the same as injured, a lot of teams with riders at top end of draft have had to use lots of guests due to their draft riders being missing all the time. Eastbourne will have their pick of draft riders to cover.
brewer 159 Posted August 7, 2014 (edited) Easier said than done, Eastbourne have four meetings next week and aquick glance reveals a lot of them riders will be unavailable due to their own clubs el or pl already in action the same nights. eg thurs Eastbourne due at Swindon, worral Already with Edinburgh so Swindon also looking for a guest, Poole at KL so newman/kerr/rose out. Friday looks even bleaker to find someone. Edited August 7, 2014 by brewer

Sadly thats how it works. Coventry have had to replace Garrity a few times with riders quite a long way down the list.

I cant see why a promising Brit like Birks shouldn't be allowed to join the list as a direct replacement for Blackbird. Probably wont happen as MF will probably disagree. g13webb 4,254 Posted August 7, 2014 Sad to hear the injury news Lewis Blackbird. In what has been an exceptional year, he must be gutted to end his season this way...... https://twitter.com/speedwaystarmag
Chrall 11 Posted August 7, 2014 Lewis looked a different rider when he visited Leicester this year. He seems a great guy and is certainly in the form of his life. feel gutted for him and wish him a safe and speedy recovery.
Edward Barrett 83 Posted August 9, 2014 Well if this is Eastbournes final season, with this cruel blow to Lewis Blackbird, rider of the season for the club, it will end in a whimper, not a bang. With the combination of Bellerby, (anyone heard of him?), and Geer, nice guy, but too nice to be nasty, we will play by the rules, and sign replacements that will in no way replicate Lewis' exploits. Unlike our south coast neighbours who constantly massage the rule book, to their advantage. Sad for Bob Dugard, who has poured a small fortune of his own money into keeping the club going, but has been let down by ineffectual "management".
