The claim that better riders were availablle for the18th maybe correct, I couldn't say but I do have to question how many of the riders that are competing in the ELRC the following night will be giving their all in the Brandonopolis.

Iversen

Nicholls

Schlein

Harris

Bridger

Zengota, Andersen, B Pedersen, King, Hansen, Ulamek and Jamrog added. Is Schlein confirmed?

Line up is interesting and looking forward to seeing Hansen and Jamrog. Potential 2014 signings maybe?

Shame they moved it. Now clashes with England playing, with national tv coverage.

Started a new thread as other wont let me edit title.

COVENTRY’S prestigious Brandonapolis individual event is taking shape – with a strong field set to contest the meeting next month.

Originally due to be staged as the season-opener back in March but called off due to the weather, the Brandonapolis will now take place on Friday October 18 and will feature a selection of top stars and also some riders not currently racing in the UK.

Danish star Niels-Kristian Iversen, who won last weekend’s Scandinavian Grand Prix and looks set for a medal finish overall in the World Championship, will be one of the favourites, and fellow Danish duo Hans Andersen (winner of the Brandonapolis in 2010) and Bjarne Pedersen are also included.

There is a fourth Dane named in the line-up in Brandon track specialist Kenneth Hansen, who has been absent from UK action since 2009 but is keen to return next season.

Hansen, who had some stunning scores against the Buildbase Bees for Peterborough, has been racing for Slangerup, Malmo and Krakow in the respective European leagues this year.

A new face to watch out for is 22-year-old Pole Jakub Jamrog, who has been associated with Extraleague Tarnow during his domestic career and has also ridden for Division One club Lodz.

Buildbase Bees skipper Scott Nicholls will be looking to take the Brandonapolis title for the first time, and his team-mate Grzegorz Zengota, who has enjoyed an impressive season at home in particular, is also included.

Former Coventry captain Chris Harris is a confirmed starter along with his Birmingham team-mate Danny King, and other ex-Bees riders in the meeting are Peterborough’s in-form Ryan Fisher, the recently back-from-injury Sebastian Ulamek and his Lakeside colleague Lewis Bridger.

There are four names to be confirmed to finalise the line-up for what promises to be a fiercely-contested meeting which will be decided by a winner-takes-all Final.

Would have been nice to see Woffy but imagine he will be focusing on resting his injury now & getting back to fitness.

For clarity - the Brandonapolis is Friday 18th October (not 12th or 11th) - there is not an England football game scheduled for that day.

Are Rory & Sundstrom no longer racing?

Would have been nice to see Tai, shame he is injured or even some big names such as Pedersen.

Will we see Kildemand added as havent seen him at Brandon this year? Surprised no Kennett.

COVENTRY present the 2013 staging of one of speedway’s most historic events on Friday – the Brandonapolis (7.30pm).

Sixteen riders compete over 20 qualifying heats, a semi-final and Final to determine the winner of a meeting which for many years held pride of place in the fixture calendar in the immediate aftermath of the sport’s one-off World Final.

Demands on top riders from the increasing international fixture list means club events have also undergone changes, and in recent years the Brandonapolis has become an early-season meeting – only for it to be postponed due to poor weather back in March.

However, more than half of the original field are back to contest the meeting on Friday with a healthy mix of current and former Coventry men, top stars and riders looking to impress in order to earn 2014 contracts in the UK.

Former winners Hans Andersen (2010) and Rory Schlein (2007) are included in the line-up along with current World No.3 Niels-Kristian Iversen and two other Grand Prix men for next year in Kenneth Bjerre and Krzysztof Kasprzak.

The home challenge comes from Buildbase Bees skipper Scott Nicholls and team-mates Grzegorz Zengota and Aaron Summers, whilst club assets Ryan Fisher and Ben Barker also feature.

Danish rider Kenneth Hansen is looking to return to the Elite League in 2014 after four years away, whilst up-and-coming Poke Jakub Jamrog earned rave reviews after a recent meeting at Berwick.

Coventry promoter Mick Horton said: “It promises to be a great night. We have a good line-up of riders who were all keen to do the meeting, and many of them were due to be here back in March.

“I’m expecting some fierce racing and I’m also looking forward to seeing some of the newer faces – it should be interesting to see how they get on.

“We’d also like to wish Danny King well after his crash on Tuesday which means he’s unable to take part.”

Additional entertainment on Friday comes from local rhythm and blues band Treacle Town, who will be playing a set in the under-stand bar immediately after the meeting. There will be attractions in Speed Square before the racing, including a static trials bike display with riders on-hand, and face-painting for the children courtesy of Flamingo Entertainments.

Admission prices for a 22-heat event are £20 for adults, £16 for concessions, £8 for children, under-11s free, and season tickets are valid.

BRANDONAPOLIS RIDERS: Hans Andersen, Ben Barker, Kenneth Bjerre, Ryan Fisher, Kenneth Hansen, Chris Harris, Niels-Kristian Iversen, Jakub Jamrog, Krzysztof Kasprzak, Scott Nicholls, Bjarne Pedersen, Rory Schlein, Aaron Summers, Sebastian Ulamek, Ricky Wells, Grzegorz Zengota. Reserve: James Sarjeant.
