The Inconstancies In Refereeing

Recommended Posts

Doesn't alter the fact that the Referees should be striving for Consistency all the time.

They do thats why there's an observer at each match reporting back.

Doesn't work very well then - does it?

Who'd be a referee!

Perhaps it's time to bring technology to the sport, especially for race starts..

Transponders on bikes? That would also generate accurate race times.. Would it be easier to let everyone roll at the start rather than preventing one from rolling? Don't know the answer except it's easy to punish the "perfect start" as we've seen as well....

Don't forget, the "first bend bunching, all four back" rule doesn't actually exist!! That's just a situation that's been handled like it is now for years and is totally at the referees discretion, just how far round the first bend it covers is also discretionary....... The referee doesn't have to exclude anyone, at any point of a race, apparently, but they always do once the first bend bunching area has been negotiated......

The above issues seem to be the most talked about and frequently got wrong by the modern referee, so let's see some serious suggestions/ideas to help cut the times these desisions are incorrectly made....

Who are these observers, who appoints them? Are they at all meetings and if so where do they hide? What feed back do they give and when? - - - Can I become one?

The solution to the rolling start is easy. A line beam alone the white line, activaited when the green light goes on. if it's broken before the tapes are released the red lights come on. The Ref wouldn't have to be involved and a perfect start wouldn't get pulled up.

Aren't the tapes along the white line?

If you want to stop someone rolling backwards to get a flyer, you would need something behind the bikes.

So, despite my asking, no answers towho these observers are.

For information and to help me get a job, with the help of the open window I have been advising referees at Buxton for years.

There can't be many rules that are simplier in speedway than the 2 min rule so how come a certain scots ref managed to muck this on up twice in the sunny meeting on friday

There's a heck of a lot that are more complicated though.

Unnecessarily so in my view. :nono: :nono:
