A Quick Question For Our Swedish Friends

Recommended Posts

We are thinking of travelling to the Mallila GP & I don't fly anywhere so we have to go by car. We have a 15 month old child, now I have read that in Sweden you need a rear facing car seat for all children under 3 which would mean a £250 special seat just for Sweden making the trip too much hassle, or have I been misinformed. Many thanks in advance Paragon.

The law says that all children that have a height that is less then 135cm have to sit in a special protective seat such as baby seat, child seat and etc.

However as far as I can see there are no demands for the seats to be rear-facing, only recommendations. In Sweden it is very common though since it is

much safer then a forward facing seat.

Thanks for the reply Ghostwalker. The AA website in Britain says that children in Sweden under 18 kilo's must travel rear facing so I don't know if we can risk it.

Ok. I don't know either more then what it says at the link I posted. I guess you could always send a question to Trafikverket, they should know.

However I have seen info that there is a new EU-wide standard that all children under the age of 15 months will have to have rearward facing seats.

Current standard apparently only demands rearward facing seats for children aged 9 months or younger.

But I don't know if the new law/standard is already in effect and if not when it will be introduced.

However if your child is 15 months now, you should probably be allright at the time of the Grand Prix.

Could it be rear facing seats in the front due to airbags but forward facing ok in the back as airbags come from the side. I know in some European countries children who don't need a child seat cannot sit in the front until they're a certain age/height.

I'd email the Swedish authorities as advised and also those of any country you may need to pass through. The Scandinavians as a whole do English better than the English.

Just occurred to me if you do need a special seat maybe you could hire one.

I was thinking that as well, either hire one or perhaps even loan from someone you (Paragon) know?
