Swindon End Of Era Meeting.

Recommended Posts

So has anyone have any idea if this meeting is definitely on, any definite starters and what format will it take?

PS, Thanks Swindon. I emailed you asking about this nearly a week ago as we have to arrange time off from work, arrange travel and accommodation but have had no reply. Is this usual for the Club? If it is no wonder the sport is losing fans.

Its in Swindon's fixture list on their website as Sunday 11th October at 4pm.

The meeting is scheduled to be with Swindon current riders and past ones, but have no idea if an individual or team type meeting.

I'm sure you think you are being helpful but you are coming across as rather bitter (which I understand) but negativity is not really what we need at this point.

Trust me when I say the Council were made well aware of GI's modus operandi. If you are that concerned email local MP Justin Tomlinson and reiterate your concerns there. That will be of far more practical value than doing it on here. ;)

Not really practical as I live in Calcot on the west side of Reading and not Swindon. Believe me Reading council were every bit as supportive as Swindon's with all party support. and look at the result. Casino operators and the banking crash were blamed here, you have the threat of really local residents and that land for a new stadium being worth so much more to Mr Osbourn and the developers than dogs and speedway could ever be. Also I think until the closure greyhounds were more viable at Smallmead than Blunsdon, except for the BAGS contract, which could be switched to Poole which they only lease.

Mr O could move into Sandbanks with Harry Redknapp then!

Sorry if you think I am being negative but with no Reading or Oxford the only viable speedway for me is Blunsdon.

But YES Buzz I do agree that locals should lobby the MP and the council and waste no time in doing it.

Been there, seen it, got the programme board wrapped up in moth balls

I honestly can't see how a new track let alone stadium is going to be built in 5 months across a winter period. GI have form with this type of situation, and unfortunately you can only really see Swindon going a similar way. It won't be there fault of course that a new stadium isn't built, they'd have spent hundreds of thousands on planning, specs blah... blah .... blah.... blah.

Sorry for the negativity, but I think the realistic Swindon fans see the situation for what it is, and what it's likely to become.

We will gratefully accept all advise, I'm sure.

I've popped an email off to JT. Hopefully he will reply with more than platitudes, Matt. I will let you know if he replies.

As remembertheracers says, we need to get on it a bit and not just sit back worrying.

The Pit Crew were awesome back in the day. Are they able to bring some pressure at all?

Do you think they had any intention of every building the racino?

It seems to be as if they would have got on with it as soon as Smallmead closed if they really wanted a new stadium.

In my opinion, honestly? No.

They moved the goal posts so many times with what they wanted and were going to build, had full backing of the council and full planning permission at least twice on plans they submitted. I think the casino opening up half a mile down the road was a welcome 'get out' for them, and of course wasn't their fault!

In my opinion NO unless someone built it for them and paid for everything.

If they dodge and swerve again in my opinion there will be more than enough to pay off the orange man too.

Please organise all the locals you can quickly, lobby the MP,the newspaper, take banners to the farewell meeting etc etc.

I think as somebody has pointed out here 5months to build a stadium is a big risk during Winter. We will have to hope we do not have a bad weather with heavy rain, snow or wind and these are all things that can cause delays.

Personally, I'd be more concerned about the first meeting of the 2016 season

Oxford Stadium will return. Swindon could start their 2016 fixtures there and then move into the new Swindon stadium in May/June!!

I sure do think you are being negative. Yes I sympathise with you and what happened at Reading. I for one used to thoroughly enjoy my trip down the M4 to watch the Robins (in the last few years) give the Racers a spanking with half the crowd being Robins fans, but please don't continue to bring your negativity to this thread. There is enough concern from Swindon fans that this historic club may not feature next season thanks.

I was trying to get you to mobilise action and opinion but if I cant give my opinion and state fears then I wont post again on the subject.

My apologies if I've upset you and as you are a touch rude I'd trade Racers record of 5 league titles and World Champions against yours over the years any day of the week. I want Swindon Speedway to surviive too Mr Roundabout!

It's hard for reading fans to feel positive for swindons future under the same mob tbh, hope it goes swimmingly for you of course but a ramshackle but perfectly usable stadium for dogs and speedway just a mile off j11 m4 still exists, the buggers smashed bits of it up with no intention of doing Anything too it sadly

Let's hope the new blunsdon goes ahead good and proper

Yes sorry I came across poorly there. I guess I'm getting a little frustrated with the situation. No offence intended.
