hagonshocker 1,960 Posted March 4, 2017 With yesterday's Oxford Mail article that there is a group seeking to set up a 'Social Enterprise' with Oxford Council for Speedway and Greyhounds to return to Oxford Stadium, then I guess its no surprise to learn that Bill Glass might be looking at the Oxford facility, no matter what may happen at Blunsdon in the future!!Timing is rather suspect isn't it? Drag the supposed new Swindon stadium out with little progress and now it seems Oxford is a goer for greyhounds again, you have to consider those buggers at GI/Stadia UK didn't want speedway initially in there proposed new greyhound stadium and let's be honest they still don't and before anyone mentions Swindon Borough Council insisting it does include it then pah take that with a pinch of salt!!
THE DEAN MACHINE 4,771 Posted March 4, 2017 So what is the delay ?clearly there is nothing happening or even signs that work is about to start so there obviously a reason for the lack of work , has the planning been rejected or some other reason , either some sign of work or some answers are needed and soon
remembertheracers 171 Posted March 4, 2017 (edited) Why don't the local media run stories on the delay/inaction? I have never thought the new stadium will be built as long as Osbourne and GI are involved, they will drag it out and play the long game. The current stadium is very run down now, it could be condemned. Or there could be a fire or two like at Eastville when they wanted Bristol Rovers out of the place due to a peppercorn rent. At Reading there was only ever going to be a new one, despite the council helping with land, unless a casino or someone paid every last ha'penny of it. A very well known former Reading official first met Osbourne in the mid 70's and described him as slippery and likened him to a snake! Dont blame Russell, Bowden or Rossiter. They may be afraid of pushing publicly but why the local rag and radio stations have not run stories and asked hard questions on it in unexplicable - you begin to wonder how much desire there is behind the wall or earth mound of silence. Sense Swindon folk are now coming out of their sleepwalking and sweet dreams thinking and smell the coffee for real. A ORLOV 8,628 Posted March 4, 2017 (edited) The local rag has been involved but when questioned just repeats the information that is put out by Osbourne and GI. As mentioned before the speedway just rents the stadium and track so really has no power to push GI. Edited March 4, 2017 by A ORLOV
Crazy robin 2,966 Posted March 4, 2017 All Conlon contractors & their hut have now left the stadium so read into that what you can. Honesty is a past thing sadly these days & from the Swindon promotors

Trees 2,814 Posted March 4, 2017 The Swindon management should respect their fans more and give a proper update to the situation .....
EnglishRoundabout 1,752 Posted March 5, 2017 Had an opportunity to nip into Blunsdon last night and can confirm there is no longer any building equipment present. Moreover, the portakabin that was being used by the two or three builders wearing hard hats back in December, has now gone. Huge waterlogged area with collapsed metal railings tumbled on top of each other. Not a spade, a trowel a bag of cement or more importantly anybody in sight. I have to admit I have always thought that Swindon would get a new stadium, but not March 2017 (the original forecast) and certainly not September 2017 (the second prediction). However the sight that greeted me last night was depressing and for the first time I am beginning to doubt.
keef robin 551 Posted March 5, 2017 As Blackadder once said ... we have advanced no further than an asthmatic ant with some heavy shopping Rosco has been spotted wandering around Swindon with underpants on his head and 2 pencils up his nostrils

So we sit back and await the next announcement from the management as to their new projection of completion date along with a statement about the fans not needing to be concerned. We have continually had statements telling us that all is ok and progressing, which it is obviously not. No doubt we will get a statement about the possible moving of the U21 WC Final which will not take place in any new stadium. Are there any rumours about any fans forum yet.
orion 7,620 Posted March 5, 2017 (edited) Its been a really poor show with lie after lie ..the saddest thing if you dare question it your somehow not a loyal fan...surely its time for a statement about what is going on or in this case what is not going on Edited March 5, 2017 by orion
waytogo28 2,054 Posted March 5, 2017 You won't get a statement from Go Speed while the 2107 £100,000 ( or is it £200,000 ) commission is "in the bag" And you will not hear from Sky until there really are eight teams that will complete the season Why are people avoiding the main issue with Swindon? keef robin 551 Posted March 5, 2017 The Robins have always had a great bunch of followers, one of the most loyal bunch of hard-core speedway fans since 1949, sad to see this situation. They deserve more respect otherwise will lose more followers.
Crazy robin 2,966 Posted March 5, 2017 I did say a month ago that Swindon have pulled out of staging the Under 21 meeting & it's going to Belle Vue. Also said cabin & builders are gone last week. When are the lying promotors finally going to stop telling us even more lies😡😡😡
