Surprised the BPSA have to look at this. If I were a rider I'd be trying to use them now. Lindgren proved they work and they are a fraction of the cost.

the average thing is simple. Each rider has one average to be used in both leagues.

how many riders can afford them ,

Is the national league still running as there is no mention of it anywhere?

Presume it is. The NL conference is usually separate (later) to the Premiership & Championship conference.

PRESS BULLETIN FROM THE
BRITISH SPEEDWAY PROMOTERS' ASSOCIATION PRESS OFFICE

Date: Thursday November 3, 2016

bspa_agm17_1.jpg

BRITISH Speedway is ready to bounce back in 2017 – after the biggest revamp of the sport in modern history.
Club bosses have spent three days voting through plans to restructure league racing in the UK which sees both Rye House and second tier champions Somerset taking the plunge with promotion to the top flight.
And there’s good news for fans of troubled Leicester and Belle Vue with both clubs, who boast a rich heritage, ready to come to the tapes again – and at the top level.
Workington are expected to take their place in the Championship, but this is subject to confirmation.
The leagues have been rebranded Speedway Great Britain (SGB) Premiership and SGB Championship – and promotion and relegation has been introduced with the leagues coming closer together.
The winners of the Championship play-offs will race the Premiership’s bottom club to decide who rides in the 2018 SGB Premiership.
The same rules and race format, last year’s PL programme, will apply to both leagues – that means tactical rides are available when 10-points down from heats 5-12.
The injury rider-replacement rule will also now be in place in both leagues.
And the season will start with Knockout Cup meetings at both levels before the launch of the exciting new leagues.
All riders will now have one average, based on Premier League figures, for team building purposes with a 50-point limit for the top division and 40 for the Championship.
It means riders who only raced in the Elite League last season will see their average increased by 1.4 to bring them in line with Premier League averages.
The only difference in team building rules between the leagues is that Championship clubs must include a British youngster with a three-point average.
And in a bid to help young riders get team spots, any rider who hasn’t achieved a three-point average will come in on a minimum of 2.
No team changes will be permitted in either league after July 31.
The British Speedway Promoters’ Association also intend to work with the new Gerhard engine after a visit to the Switzerland base of the GTR. This will reduce costs for riders with engines typically needing a fraction of the servicing of other engines. More details will follow once the arrangement is concluded.
Promoters feel this dramatic revamp was necessary in a financially challenging climate – and whilst chairman Keith Chapman admits there is an element of cost cutting there is plenty for fans and sponsors to be excited about.
He said: “This was probably the best AGM I’ve been to in all my time in the sport.
“There was a genuine desire to try and change things and secure the future of league racing in the UK. I certainly think we have done that and I’m very excited about the months ahead.
“Every promoter acknowledged something had to be done after some very difficult times for the sport – now we’ve done something and I’m looking forward to a bright future.”
Vice Chairman Rob Godfrey said: “I believe we have achieved a total restructuring of British Speedway.
“We have created leagues which are sustainable and have a structure with promotion and relegation and the same rules.
“Now we have rebranded the sport, it’s time to deliver.”

The statement says EL averages will be increased by 1.4 if rider did not have a PL average do they not mean EL average will be multiplied by 1.4 to bring them in line with PL averages.

They could mult by 1.4 to get the EL average in line with PL averages but not mult EL average by 1.4 and easily build to a 50 point limit.

I don't know personal finances. But if the engines from different makers cost about the same yet maintenance is a fraction of the cost. You do the maths and I'm sure riders are doing some sums too. Easy to buy a Gerhard when your current engine expires.

Rider on 8 Elite = 11.2 which is now applied over both leagues. 11.2 is a big chunk from 40 Championship points for a team. Riders like Cook, Nicholls and Bomber should get some good offers. Pleased we are looking after our own for a change.

there needs more explanation on riders who DID ride in two leagues but have differing success rates.

assume no UK percentage reduction now.

I feel sorry for Ipswich fans who bar Peterborough have some long road trips. Northern League is that in all but name  .

If the cost savings that are being spoken about are true, then it could be argued that a seasons savings will more than pay for the engine,

when it cost 3 x the amount to service a poxy Italian single cylinder engine as it does my car, somthings has to change

so you could say cant they afford not to use them?

i think i read they will have it increased by 1.4 not multiplied by 1.4... so an 8 should be 9.4 is that right ?

I'm sure I have seen somewhere where Doyle has been mentioned about doubling up before the AGM Statement. Thought it was a wind up on the forum but now there could be some truth in it.

There is some good averages to be snapped up by the "money" clubs

Cook on EL x 1.4 is 10.84 so bargain on his PL 9.88

Harris/Nichols come in around 9.23

Morris in at 8.98

Schlein in at 7.17

Porsing in at 6.99

Might hamper us again with riders riding abroad on Sundays

Spotted an issue already

SpeedwayGB have said averages will be real as of the 1st set of greensheets.

If the premiership team building is 50 it's almost impossible for any team to maintain that figure.

Effectively, the teams with the biggest wallets can replace reserves for heatleaders after the 1st set of averages.

The gap from top to bottom of the Premiership could be bigger than ever

Read it quickly so not fully thought it through to be honest I think they've done . Two new teams at EL level is always good news for the top level. The promotion/relegation I'm willing to give a go as the difference between the leagues is closer than ever, I assume we will find out more detail about doubling up etc. Good news there seems to be a commitment about the Gerrard engines. Finally MORE fixtures, certainly at EL level. Its what fans wanted.

It increased by 1.4, not x 1.4. For example Doyley will now be 10.98 from 9.58. If it was x's he'd be 13.41, the averages are only calculated on 4 rides......i.e max of 12.
