And The Good News Is,

Recommended Posts

Its very easy and justified to discus all that is wrong with speedway today but to take us into 2017 with a bit of optimism what are the good news speedway stories?

So please, in this topic, uplifting stories ONLY. Anything from your 5 year old grandson meeting his "supporter friendly" idol to what is your club doing to make a contribution to the future of the sport.

Wimbledon Stadium opened in the late 1920s and was for many years a leading centre for speedway in London.

It closes in March 2017 before being demolished. It will leave those Londoners who want to watch speedway having to travel outside the London area to Rye House, Lakeside Hammers (at Arena Essex), or to Kent Kings (at Sittingbourne} for their nearest tracks.

Does this count as cheerful first comment to the thread's OP?

I think that if the plans for Leicester and Belle Vue are as reported and satisfactorily completed, then that should leave both clubs on a stronger footing and that would certainly be good news (probably already is). The news would be even better if the mess at Coventry is made usable and hopefully a new venue becomes possible.

Speedway has some of the best produced and lavish programmes ever enjoyed.... something we can dig out in days to come, when people ask "what's speedway?" Programmes are made to last.... wish they took as much times getting the sport as professional.

There are indeed some excellent speedway programmes in the sport these days - top class productions. Also we are able to read and enjoy some excellent books on the sport. I had a copy of 'BACKTRACKING' for a Christmas present and am finding it to be a most enjoyable 'speedway read'. IMO a must for all home-based speedway libraries.

:lol::lol:They say "...every cloud has a silver lining.." and that's what we must hope for in regard to the 2017 season. Just laugh at what adversities may present themselves and to adopt a positive attitude in regard to how we accept the sport. And let's all hope 'our old friend' Jupiter Pluvius will not be attending many meetings in 2017.

Swindon putting a NL team in the National Trophy competition. I hope this is a trial for a full NL team in the future.

The good news is: we still have at least 3 leagues of speedway to watch in 2017 (with MDL, NDL, JL, etc), despite some of us still having no team of our own to support and quite a bit will be shown live on TV. Speedway isn't prefect, how far away depends on one's own opinion, but it's still a brilliant sport. Mostly. Well a lot of the time it is....

Skid, just ignore the troll and rise above it.

There are 4 days left in 2016, please let it be him.

The most encouraging item in regard to next year - and the 2017 season. The indications are that the National League is going to have a major influence on the sport - more so even than in previous seasons. Time for everyone to raise a smile as suggested by Skid Sprocket in his OP? :approve::icon_smile_clown:

A Southern Development League with Poole included will be good for me....13 heats is just not enough.

Good News Story:

In 2017 there will be a minimum of 26 British riders declared starters in the top division from 9 clubs

As little as 2013 there were were only 15 from 10 clubs

Can only be a good thing imo

Maybe you'd feel you'd got better value if you watched a whole meeting first?

That is a good thing, and by my reckoning 22 Brits have been named already with a minimum of 2 each at Belle Vue and Leicester, and one more at King's Lynn still to come.

So that's a minimum of 27, but we know that, as well as 2 British reserves, Belle Vue are almost certain to include Cook and the 2 Woralls, so that takes us to 30, plus any others that may be named at Leicester above the mandatory 2.
