Injured Riders

Recommended Posts

Could someone in the know please clarify the injured riders rr when a rider has an injury during a meeting and can not carry on racing. We had an experience of this at Scunthorpe. The home team rider came off his machine ( 1st bend 1st lap with help ) The away rider was excluded from the rerun but due to injury the Scunthorpe rider could not, BUT because he had had 3 rides the only riders allowed to take his place was one of the 2 reserves. This was all explained over the PA from the referee. So on to last nights meeting of Leister V Swindon. Heat 15, Troy Batchelor fell (with Help) and could not take his place in the re run , the same as happened at Scunthorpe only this time Nick Morris was allowed in the race. Now as Troy had had more than 3 rides how can Nick take his place when according to the referee at Scunthorpe the only option is for a reserve to take his place. WHAT is the correct interpretation of this rule.. After this I do hope that the 3 riders who had accidents during this meeting are up and racing soon.

it's because heat 15 is a nominated riders race, so Bachelor had to be replaced by another rider who is eligible for heat 15.

ARR is when a rider is declared absent/injured and r/r operates for his programmed rides. Those rides can be taken by any rider with a lower average plus the rider with the next highest average.

IRR is when a rider starts a meeting has to withdraw from that meeting through injury. His programmed rides can be taken by riders with a lower average only.

You can access all this season's rules and regs, including those that have been added or changed since the start of the season, from www.scbgb.co.uk

[/ Sorry for not replying sooner but I wanted to check on this. After talking to the referee at Scunthorpe yesterday I was told ,that in the case of heat 15 once the 2 riders have been nominated they are classed as the riders . IF there is an incident with a rider from the opposite team excluded and as in Troy case he was unable to take part in the re run then his place should be taken by a reserve and not another rider.

15.14.3 Nominations must be a ‘qualified’ Rider, determined as either:

a) A Rider in the top 3 of that Meeting’s Team by current MA (NB. A Team missing one of the top 3 and using the RR facility) may use the 4th highest Rider by MA.
or
B) A Top 3 points scorer (counting the 4 x programmed rides only, including bonus points) or if one of those top 3 points scorers has already taken 7 rides then the 4th highest points scorer becomes a ‘qualified’ rider. (NB: No facility is available allowing another rider to be elevated to the qualified list if any of those top 3 points scorers are unavailable due to be withdrawn or has no equipment).
If a rider is disqualified for an offence under Art 15.3 the Team Manager may choose either of the following options: -
i) The disqualified rider can start on a 15 metre handicap in c or d (The opposing team does not change gate positions).
or
ii) Is replaced by a reserve who will start from the same gate position at the tapes.
In a re-run of heat 15 a non-disqualified rider who is unable to take part may be replaced by a reserve or another ‘qualified’ rider.
