Redcar Cubs v Birmingham Bulls

Recommended Posts

Lifted from Redcar Cubs page….

Cubs went down with a fight last night finally succumbing to a last heat 1-5 to lose 15-19 to the Birmingham Ductair Bulls .
The Bulls fielded Luke Muff who’s points would not count as his NDL average is too high for the MDL rules so they were left with a three rider team but a strong one at that and it was an entertaining six heats.
The Cubs suffered some mechanical gremlins with both Captain Katie and Dayle Wood having issues, major in Katie’s case , but it was good to see Edfell completing all of his races and top scoring as a result.
Alex still looks rusty from the starts but chipped in with supporting points.

Dayle Wood 5
Katie Gordon zero
Alex Goldie 3+2.
Edward Davison 7.

Luke Muff points Did Not Count ( 9 max )
Tim Colley 7+1
Jason Garrad 9 max.
Jacob Fellows 3.

In the MDL the points scored by an ineligible rider are decucted from the team total rather than moving places up in each heat ,,,  so result becomes 11-16 taking off Muff's 9 points

So tactically it could be argued that tracking an ineligible rider could be a bigger advantage than RR?

Dissapointing showings from the two eligible NL riders, obviously Fellows still has poor equipment and Woods has come a long way to block a team place....

Which is the wrong way to do it and makes it look like a load of points have gone missing. If a rider is ineligible and wins three races, your penalising the rider who finishes second each time when actually he’s WON the races and you’ve taken 3 points off him. Just ignore anything the ineligible rider scores and promote up each rider behind him, simples !

or even better….don’t use an ineligible rider !

Theres a reason the MDL is virtually dead and the NJL has been running for 13 consecutive years, get with the times, get 125 kids involved, there’s so many about now the BYC class is having to be split into separate rounds !

The 125's have their own rides at MDL meetings with 4 / 5 riders getting rides but points not counting in team totals . The MDL with 4 riders per team gives more riders track time and has always worked well ,,, and with squads of six gives more riders the chance of rides .

The NJL system works well for them but won't change what the MDL does. Each to their own.

As for ineligible riders this is avoided at all costs but the Bulls were missing 3 riders with injury (Luke Harrison, Kai Ward and Billy Budd plus Bailey Fellows has his university final exams) and Luke Muff (an ex-Bull) was in need of some track time. Taking off his 9 points did not alter the end result ... the NJL use their system and the MDL theirs. Neither is right or wrong and the public don't get confused changing points in those races.

Both leagues do a great job producing riders and giving them  valuable track time .

Are the heat results available so it can be seen if the ineligible rides possibly changed the match result?

But there isn’t an MDL….it’s Birmingham and REDCAR , who are in the NORTH, so they have changed what the MDL does  because it hasn’t worked!
