Sheffield v Wolves 8th June

Recommended Posts

Ignoring the play off semi final at the end of 2022 this is usually a close run affair.  Master, Worrall and Douglas all know the fastest way around Owlerton and if it’s on the slick side then Schlein will be up there too, Becker always been a bit hit and miss but  an easily get 5-7 points.  Think it’s Cook’s first time in track so will take a ride or two to get dialled in but he’s seen the place plenty of time when spannering for Holder in early 2022.  Flint can pop out and liking the bigger track isn’t scared of using the high dirt line.

As for the home side, Musielak and Holder are usually good for 10+ points each, a lot will depend on Ellis and Bellego as both have been pretty poor so far (exception being the Lynn whipping 2 weeks ago) Ellis has looked slow even if he pops out of the start he’s always looking behind so must feel the lack of speed and Bellego has ridden very hesitant so far like a mix of Batchelor and Craig Cook when not committing to tough first bends etc, Kerr has rode very consistently all season and similar to when he was at reserve there’s the added bonus of having Howarth down there who again can get 4-7 rides depending on others performance, Gilkes has picked up good points and learning every race

I’ll go for a home win, not an annihilation like the home match last time out v King’s Lynn but something around 50-40 mark

Good analysis, IMHO. From the Wolves end, personally I would be reasonably content with 40 and positively made up with 42! Pessimistically fearing something nearer 35, but I do tend to look on the dark side rather than the bright.

Bellego really needs to up his game if he wants to stay at Sheffield. I think we are weaker with Howarth at reserve   Lewis can gate consistently but Kyle can’t and wolves are generally quick out of the starts. Don’t think Howarth will have the same impact at reserve but hopefully he will prove me wrong

This will tell us realistically how close Wolves will be to claiming the top prize, they've done well at Belle Vue and Ipswich,so if they can keep it to a 10 point margin, then I would imagine they would be fairly optimistic about their chances when it comes to the nitty-gritty later in the season. We run Sheffield close last campaign, and the last thing they want is to be on the end of a real hammering to dent their confidence.    I'll go 49..41.

weather is lovely I’m looking forward to this. Will be a sterner test than kings Lynn without doubt. Will Ellis carry on the form he’s showed last couple weeks or take another dip? Douglas was poor at Owlerton 2 weeks ago. Feel like the closeness of the meeting depends on those 2

Yet R.Douglas loves big tracks...

Sam Masters had so much potential. Sad to see him reduced to being a Monmore track specialist.

What happened to the guy who used to fly around Somerset?

18 points is a good margin from a Sheffield perspective.

Jack Holder is absolutely flying an absolute pleasure to watch he’s really bringing his gp from back to England.

We should be more concerned about a guy whose just qualified for GP challenge and then goes to a track he's very familiar with and scores a single point from 4 rides.

Yes that’s a good return but Kerr got the same total from 2 away meetings Ipswich and Wolves which are where we are heading next   Can Kyle match that ? I hope he can but we will see. Bellego won’t be getting anywhere near that will he ?

Becker had an off at one of the Sheffield fixtures last year, maybe given he's just back that was on his mind

When Bellego goes to reserve after he does 1 more home league meeting then we are in trouble as he is abysmal away from Owlerton apart from maybe NSS, that will take away the ‘strong’ reserve situation we’ve had so far this season
