I was always amused by Wally referring to the person in last place as "pegged backattheback" with those last four words all tumbling at as one.

...another of his favourite sayings was "chasing, chasing, chasing."

I can remember seeing England v New Zealand from Wimbledon in 1970 which was shown on a Saturday afternoon.

From TV Times for August 1, 1970

Brings back memories and when speedway was shown on mainstream TV albeit on an irregular basis.

I vaguely recall that a wrestler at that time once dabbled with speedway?

Are you sure that wasn't when Split Waterman sued a wrestling promoter for publicising the wrestler Bert Waterman as "speedway rider 'Split'?

I'm sure that he was a clean cut wrestler (a "goodie" as in those days they were either "baddies" or "goodies") Didn't realise until relatively recently that Pete Waterman is the nephew of Spllt?

The GB v Soviet Russia Test Match at Brandon in 1964, preceded by the Golden Helmet Match Races between Nigel Boocock and Ove Fundin, was included in that night’s BBC “Sportsview” programme.
