Poole have only really given Brits a chance because of the enforced ruling about using them at reserve. Shanes is only really in because his 2 point average fits. Poole have certainly not supported the likes of Howarth and Newman as assets by sacking them. Wolves took a chance on Howarth and are now reaping the benefit with his best ever season at both levels in 2017 and has started 2018 with a top flight paid maximum. I'd rather ALL clubs looked after their Brits to help them progress. Some clubs obviously do so much better than others, Belle Vue another great example.4 points

I think Poole did a great job. We have a lot of foreign riders who are UK rusty in general and just starting to gel as a team. Rome wasn't built in a day. Not sure why some people think that Poles should all be able to perform well instantly at the NSS, just because it's big! I didn't say there was anything wrong with Shanes, other than I don't rate him. Poole have given plenty of Brits a chance. A chance is an opportunity isn't it? Wouldn't you say several years in the team is more than a fair chance? There is a big difference between giving somebody a chance and carrying somebody undeservedly because of their nationality. That would be the very definition of racial discrimination, would it not? You can try and talk Poole down all you like, but your constant babbling on about how sh*t we are won't make it so. It's very odd your obsession with degrading Poole... I've never seen anything like it. You jump on our threads like flies to sh*t. Your posts are so full of biased vitriol and passive aggression that there is a complete lack of respect among any of the members of this forum for you or anything you write.4 points

Unfortunately there seem to be more trolls and wind up merchants on the forum nowadays than genuine posters.....combine that with too many people who can't resist biting at the utter garbage that is posted and its a pretty bad combination.4 points

Rye should have moved back to the middle tier. Saturday night racing with more local derbies is a no brainer really. The team is too old and too expensive, coupled with the awful facilities at hoddesdon, it's a recipe for disaster.4 points

In Poland the tail doesn't wag the dog, unlike in the UK where riders certainly take the pee. Only have to go back to the Holder/Batcholar situation at Kings Lynn v Poole meeting last season. Would those 2 Aussies have tried that on in Poland ? I think not.4 points

Ivan totally changed the fortunes of Newcastle Speedway in the early 60's. He burnt up the Aussies during the winter, and we could not believe that Mike Parker would go for him and get his signature. Not only that, but Ivan asked for and got passages to the UK for him, Raye and the 3 children for which Ivan was forever grateful for. He always respected Parker for it, money was never a problem between them, but his desire to reach the top split them apart. After his first WC with the Diamonds, there followed moves to Belle Vue, Exeter and of course Hull. He never forgot the Diamonds, getting his main mechanic Gordon Stobbs from us and his wife Margaret, who were with Ivan and Raye for the rest of his career and afterwards. He always showed his interest in fellow Kiwi's, visiting us every year especially when Mark Thorpe and David Bargh were riding for us. He usually came up unannounced when he came over for the WSRA dinners, appearing after the start and disappearing before our meeting finished after seeing everyone he knew. In 2010 he came up for his book signing, and I asked him and Gordon if it was possible for Ivan to visit my training school on the Sunday afternoon. He already had 4 events to attend but Gordon said he would do his best. Sure enough, halfway through the session in walks Ivan and Gordon, and he proceeded to give advice and take over the rest of the session. Photos are on the Newcastle Training group Facebook page, as well as some individuals who have posted their photos on their own Facebook pages. The early signs of his illness were there the previous evening, when Raye kept Ivan on script with his great stories. We will never see such a great rider as him again, although Tony Rickardsson came pretty close. RIP IVAN, the rider that changed speedway for the better4 points

Just the same at Monmore. Late arrivals at the tapes still gardening while the start er trying to get them to line up. Waste of time changing the rule unless all tracks have a count down clock.3 points

Im not saying Rome was built in a day. Im saying i would have expected the Poles to go better at the NSS then anywhere else. Cant see them doing much on the smaller tracks but i may be wrong. Poole dont really give Brits that much of a chance if you look at the bigger picture and personally i dont see much wrong with Shanes at number 7, he is only expected to get 3 or 4 points a meeting. I havent gone on about how sh.t Poole are and please find where i have degraded them? Poole quite clearly have the best 1-7 on paper but titles are not won on paper. Before a wheel was turned i said the Poles may be flaky.....Kurtz needs to step up more (which i think he will) Linus will not be as good as Hans......and there is doubts over Holder. I agreed Poole have the best team but if im not allowed to say i felt doubts over some of the riders then whats the point of the forum? I feel riders have to perform to their ability then Poole will win the league but for me there are question marks I would have expected Poole to do better last night on a track the riders should go well at. If they cant beat a patched up Belle Vue on a track they should enjoy , then i dont hold out much hope for them going to places like Wolves where you would expect Poole to struggle. Im sorry if your to precious to accept other peoples opinions and feel that it has to be anti Poole if someone doesnt say they will walk the league2 points

After a decent, speedily run and reasonably well attended (first) meeting on Saturday against the Monarchs, we are now faced with 3 weeks without any speedway. In the present climate where minority sports are struggling to attract spectators we should be doing all we can to encourage more to attend and to maintain the interest of those who do.These long gaps between meetings can only do the opposite. The problems seem to be the same as we have in society generally it is greed and self interest, without seeing the big picture. If a meeting is called off or needs rescheduling it should be done with the good of speedway and the speedway supporter in mind first and foremost. Looking at Glasgow's fixtures it appears as if they could squeeze a meeting in against us within the next week or two, so why not try to get it on. So what if Bomber or whoever is unavailable - how many times have the Comets raced without a number 1. You never know the idea of helping each other out may catch on!!!! Thought I would create a change of subject, one with no mention of food. Doh....I've mentioned food.2 points

Its been a long wait, so hopefully a decent crowd will flock into Saddlebow Road and see all the changes that Robin Brundle and Buster have put in place. I really hope they have turned it around and people enjoy the whole experience ( win lose or draw).2 points

Don't disagree but sooner or later people have to stop raking over old ground, wipe the slate clean and allow the club to make amends though. I was trying to lighten the mood a bit really as it was all becoming a bit depressing. Hopefully this time on Thursday the comments will all be upbeat because at the end of the day we all want the club to succeed and to be a positive place to go don't we?2 points

You to really don't get it do you !! you might have gave time and money over the years but Workington Speedway needs all the support now to keep us running. Teething problems the first week with food/café, but we went and spoke to Steve personally, not hide behind computer names and plaster it all over this Forum over and over and over you're still going on about it We go every week pay our entry money just as you do Scaramanga, oh and run the Workington Speedway Trust , sell programmes, 50/50 tickets, anything we can to help keep our Speedway unlike you that finds every opportunity to come on here and find faults, moan, criticise. You go on any thread on here and you won't find two people like you slagging their speedway/promotion off ...Give it up !!!!!!!2 points

I look at it like this. Poole and BV are both good teams and will be in the play-offs. Riders are still sorting stuff out and finding correct set ups. And to all the Poole fans saying we want changes are you nuts??? You have to give people a chance Sundstrom is the 4th guy and so far has paid 9 and paid 7 I don't think that's bad. Woryna seems to be sorting it out just not in heat 1. All the guys are in Poole today and tomorrow so im sure they will sort out everything for Wednesday night. BV Just Fricke, Bewley are just WOW. Sure they will have an off day and hopefully BV have a bit more respect for there team than some Poole fans seem to have and you wont just rip into them.2 points

So it's either Sergei "I'm still riding" Darkin or Henning "Showtime" Bager. Keep on teasing, flagrag2 points

Some close fast racing with a sprinkling of passes, not up to the usual NSS standard but nonetheless good entertainment. Grajczonek and Kildemand the best of the bunch for Poole. The two Poles did enough to show they will outscore their artificial averages. Kurtz and Sundstrom were poor and Shanes had a bad night. But as others have said, it is early days and too much shouldn't be made of one disappointing performance. Bewley was again very impressive, it's difficult to believe that it is only two years since his first competitive race. Fricke continued his good form and Cook was solid. Tungate was poor but did show some signs of improvement in his last two rides. Bjerre did as I expected and had a decent night but Worrall would have scored significantly more. Starke and Grappmaier also scored less than Drozdz and Etheridge did against Swindon. Those claiming we wouldn't be weakened can now see just how wrong they were. Overall, an excellent result for a weakened Aces team against the team expected by many to be dead certs for the title.2 points

A soul destroying, festering sore of a meeting. That one was enough to kill your enthusiasm for a season before it even starts. After watching lots of fast, vibrant, modern speedway from Poland so far this year on the TV, this one was like a trip back in time to the seventies. And Monmore is generally one of the better tracks to visit in the Premiership!!2 points

I fail to see why it's any concern as to who is involved because it's Coventry's business - maybe the poster is just setting up a case to get people to have another go about something. The bees are on track and looking good - be nice if people were just satisfied to watch their progress and not pick all the time.2 points

You wouldn't be wagering very well if you did. Rye House are WAY above anything in the Championship. There isn't even the slightest argument. I'd be surprised if any Championship side got within 20 over 2 legs.1 point

That is, when you have to get up and go to school the next day. Appreciate you coming from Boston at a bad time of the day, but surely, you leaving 15 min earlier is not a big deal either.... My feelings are. Speedway needs to appeal to the families and to do that we have to promote a slick program eliminating hold ups and be finished early. The families then can go home to get their youngster to bed. Having additional junior races after the interval will always go down well......1 point

Good post. I think amongst the pre-season hyperbole it got lost that Poole are only retained two young riders from last years team. With such a young team, containing 3 riders who haven't raced in the UK recently, a young lad at reserve and an inexperienced number one it is only right to allow time for the team to gel. Holder has always been the key to this side and it is unfair to judge them until he is in the mix as his experience will be invaluable. Despite that they have been pretty good so far.1 point

Rye are not a great top flight side.. however, they'd walk the Championship.1 point

Yes Poland is light years away from the UK and we can blame the promoters of yesteryear for all our current troubles through lack of investment when they had it good.1 point

Iainb- Nothing more to be said at the moment as nothing confirmed but should be more news by the weekend once the club have definite answers from riders who have shown an interest in joining the Lions and the club have looked at other changes that may need to be made to make these changes. As Mr Darcy said last night the club are trying everything with one option an absolutely amazing world class star just need to satisfy the Polish club that U.K. is good for the rider. BigAl- No it won’t be them it’s going to be Richard Sweetman and Jamie Courtney returning1 point

Not surprised by the result but disappointed by what I saw on track. KK looked completely disinterested, nothing worse than watching a rider who can't be bothered to finish a race without coasting the last lap hundred yards behind third place Scott Nicholls a shadow of his former self will struggle at Peterborough let alone Rye House Chris Harris once a rider who went from last to first now a rider who goes from first to last in heat one and sends all the wrong signals Robbo I hope had one of those nights when little went right. Edward did ok but never looked capable of winning a race. Max Clegg looked out of his depth on a track I thought he would score reasonably well Aaron Summers looked our best rider which says it all Compared to Wolves we looked like a bunch of over the hill amateurs and the shabby shirts worn over multi coloured Kevlar's looked pathetic. All in all a 300 mile journey to watch a top half Premiership team wipe the floor with a team that would likely struggle in the Championship with little racing evident on track Given the state of the stadium and the team we are putting out seems like we are out of the frying pan into the fire since Silver was replace by the BMR mob. I hope things improve but I got big doubts1 point

A fair point... It was something that struck me last weekend when watching my third Polish match over two days... Big crowds in modern stadia, atmosphere being 'literally' drummed up by sections of the crowd, (crowds that are made up of plenty of people under 30 never mind 60!). An announcer engaging the fans in celebratory chants and riders giving absolutely everything on well prepared circuits (Probably through fear of losing their team place and the good money that comes with it).. Absolutely light years away from what British Speedway offers, and now being on TV every weekend it doesn't do British Speedway any favours I would suggest. .. As Jim Bowen used to say on Bullseye... "Come an 'ave a look at what yer could 'ave won! "...1 point

What does it matter who is co-promoter for Coventry? The whole idea is pointless because all a promoter has to do is to register their partner as a co-promoter, I am not sure if they accept your pet poodle these days.1 point

Well that points dropped for the Pirates against a pretty poor Belle Vue. Nothing will ever become of that Bewley fellow.1 point

to me what Kings Lynn and the sport in general is missing is fun. used to be able to go to speedway, have fun, have a drink with the riders in the bar after, and actually feel part of it. the PL days were brilliant, not just because of the trophies, but the atmosphere too, all the themed nights in the summer brought out people dressing up, banner competitions, lots going on, and it was good fun1 point

Well that put to bed the nonsense that r/r for Stevie hadn,t weakened us, Stevie would have been in double figures considering how he was going, Tungate as I expected was a passenger, and Gappmaier did nothing. If I was a Poole fan id be gutted, should have taken us to the cleaners, I'm just happy to have won the meeting with a vastly under strength team.1 point

A great start for Wolves, very much like last season with Rory, Jacob and Masters looking strong. The real test starts next week vs Poole, Rye started badly and never got going, last out of the gate time and again and against wolves you just can't do it. Bomber went from 1st to last in heat 1 and never looked quick, Scott as always put the effort in and he is 40 next month and it shows. I always think of the great British finals vs Bomber and the tide is turning and you have to accept that the odd ride might be like the old times but being left at the gate and looking slow isn't good to see as a Bees fan. KK should have stayed in his van, wasn't even trying apart from when he got out and even then the lines he took were a little odd. At least with Eddie, Stuart, bomber and Scott you know they will put a shift in, look at Doyle tonight has struggled so it goes to show it happens to the best but at least race 4 laps with some commitment. congratulations to Rory and co and hope wolves have a good season. A well run club with always a well prepared track.1 point

A poor showing from the Rockets tonight. Let's not have any excuses about the riders needing to blow away the cobwebs, the Wolverhampton side came into this much colder than our riders, Kennett aside. It'll be interesting to see what excuses are wheeled out for this one.1 point
