I'd be ok with that as I agree with him. If they can't be taken back to the French coast they should be left at sea or put on a plan back to where they originated from. This is a country that can't look after it's own homeless people, we shouldn't be taking on others until our own house is in order.6 points

From the man who made stupid comments to someone months ago and when an insult was "thrown back" at him, got the bloke banned and whined for days about it. Maybe when someone asks a civil question, give your honest answer and just leave it as that. No need to insult someone for asking a question.4 points

I am rather intrigued that there are so many “fanatics” who refuse to accept speedway’s declining support, and see it all as some media conspiracy against the sport. As others have said, apart from those who live inside the “speedway bubble” the sport is now an irrelevance. That’s not diminish Woffenden’s achievements, but to the great British public is this anymore noteworthy than Chris Anderson picking up his fourth successive world championship at Cooper's Hill this June? I would suggest..not! It isn’t the media’s fault that Speedway finds itself where it is…..and the reasons for it’s spectacular fall from grace have been well documented. Now in my lifetime 1966 was a very good sporting year. Unsurprisingly the top three in the BBC Sports Personality of that year, was in third place England World Cup hattrick hero Geoff Hurst, with Sir Robert Moore the winner…..and sandwiched twixt them was a New Zealander by the name of Barry Briggs! In addition, a few years later Eamonn Andrews surprised Barry with his big red book and the famous line: “Barry Briggs….This is Your Life”! For any youngsters out there “This is Your Life” was serious mainstream telly. It was broadcast when there were only 3 channels available, was on at primetime, when the audience was counted in tens of millions, not thousands! Barry Briggs was (and probably still is) a major personality….sadly over the ensuing 50 plus years speedway had become so marginalised that folk no longer can name / recognise the current world champion...or in a lot of cases even know (or care) if the sport exists!3 points

He is the founder/owner of the company, slightly different to a random employee. A high profile figure that other companies may not want to associate with. Plenty of examples of things on social media being brought up from years ago and used against people, costing careers etc. And no I’m not crying nor have I said that Ford should cut all the ties with the company. I merely asked starman for his opinion.3 points

It's not the 1960's anymore. Nobody can say or do anything without somebody crying. People who eat meat are in the wrong according to vegan's. Female models who promote sporting events such as the Darts and Formula 1 are in the wrong according to feminist's. Some people agree with gay marriage and some people don't. Donald Trump is a racist according to a group of people yet the other group of people voted for him to become President say he's not racist. People who voted for Brexit are racists according to a some people. I can go on and on about various subjects in the current times. Do I agree with Andrew's comments. No I don't but I'm not calling for Matt Ford to cut all ties with Meridian Lifts just because someone has an opinion on a certain subject. It's the world we live in where everybody has an opinion on a subject that will leave a sour taste in people's mouths. Get with the times. Learn to deal with it. If you cant accept people having an opinion you don't like then quit all forms of social media.3 points

I'll set up a twitter account later. I will come on here and post Andrew Tomlin's tweet that way you have double evidence. You can then send the Government a letter about your feelings getting hurt. Tell them you couldn't sleep because tears were constantly running down your cheeks all night. Not like they would care but it would make you feel better in your own mind knowing you tried.2 points

Bang on. I too hold Woffinden’s achievements in high esteem. In pure speedway terms - he is the complete rider. Blaming the media for speedway’s regression to national irrelevance is utterly barking up the wrong tree. Speedway needs to take a long hard look in the mirror, rather than pointing the finger elsewhere. And those whose heads are in the sand are part of the problem, not the solution.1 point

Why is a question a stupid comment? Can't hold a civilised debate can you? Would you like it in words of 2 syllables or less so you understand it? Grade A moron, go straight to the top of the class. Jeez, even Floyd could actually give reasons in his comments, not just spit the dummy because of a perfectly legitimate question asked.1 point

Here is a bit from an online site that mentions Split a few times Cooper confirmed in court during the Kray trial that he’d made a living from gold smuggling, something to which Kapur was also connected. Two months before he was busted for manufacturing LSD, Kapur acted as a crown witness at Bow Street where he testified against former speedway champion Squire Francis ‘Split’ Waterman and three others who were charged with ‘attempted illegal export of gold, receiving gold bars, and possessing firearms and counterfeiting equipment’. This was reported in The Times of 23 September 1967. The case against Waterman ran in part that he’d been cutting and smelting gold from a bullion robbery in Clerkenwell, and that he’d enlisted Kapur’s aid in choosing and purchasing a furnace with which to do it. Likewise The Times of 19 July 1968 reported that in court testifying against the Krays, Cooper confirmed he was acquainted with Split Waterman who he knew to be both a gold smuggler and an arms dealer. Under the headline ‘Four-Year Term For Split Waterman’, The Times of 20 March 1968 had already reported that the police believed Waterman to be a gun-runner as well as a gold smuggler. Reporting on the Kray trial on 20 July 1968, The Times records the claim that Waterman had fitted up an attaché case with a hypodermic syringe loaded with hydrogen cyanide, so that Cooper could furnish it to a third party who was to carry out an assassination for the Kray brothers. At the time this seemed an utterly fantastic escapade, but such methods of assassination were later taken up by eastern bloc security agencies. It is impossible for me to say exactly what Waterman, Cooper and Kapur, were doing; but it is reasonable to conclude that they were known to each other and collaborated on what were either criminal or intelligence enterprises, and possibly both1 point

If it got up a real head of steam then he might respond (but for such big issues it's odds against) or there might be some reference elsewhere from management but we're some way from that as it stands. A couple of people who think that they know something is just chip paper atm!1 point

So, to those sports that don't exist, those "made-up" ones... England’s Jason Bastable won gold at the World Blind Golf Championships this year. Scotland are current bronze medallists in the World Wheelchair Curling Championships. So, here's a chance for you to redact that and admit your mistake. Those sports are not made up. Fact. Perhaps you might roll out an apology as you are proven to be wrong? Another option is for you is to stamp your feet and throw childish insults. I wonder which one you will choose? You are the one who is saying every British World Champion should be given due credit at SPOTY. You can bet your life that when the BBC tried to this approach in the past, they were inundated with complaints over missing out this and that sport from every pedantic Tom, Dick and Harry across the UK. Instead, SPOTY recognises the most significant rather than the mass appeasement-fest you are championing. I think a line has to be drawn somewhere, so far you have been saying there shouldn't. Are you sticking with that or will you admit another mistake? Or are there more toys left in the pram to have still to chuck out yet? Yes, the crowds for a couple of GPs are impressive, but it's delusional to pretend that makes the whole sport of great national significance. Put it in context. The World Cyclocross Championships gets over 60k paying spectators, there are more people involved in a mass participation event like the London Triathlon than there are with the Cardiff GP, Greyhound racing has a larger annual audience at its race meetings. To call speedway a minority sport in the UK actually doesn't cover it accurately enough. It's one of scores of minority sports and among that chasing pack, it's lagging towards the back of those and going backwards still. Go on, have a go at looking at the bigger picture, try looking at the facts and perhaps park the childish insults, you'll feel much better for it.1 point

You do have the evidence Boffy the baby posted it on here yesterday word for word. Police wouldn't care and neither would the government. I know how things work in this country. Like I said to you earlier if your feelings have been hurt and you're upset then go and complain to the government and ask them to put Andrew Tomlin in prison for sending out a tweet containing an opinion. No point crying on a Speedway Forum.1 point

You wear your ignorance like a badge of pride Firstly I don’t have any evidence to report him as I am not and never said I was on twitter and haven’t seen the post.I was just giving some advice to the person who did.Understand so far? Then it would be the police who deal with it,not the government!!You do understand how things work in the country?Seems not1 point

No it's not. Just because one person has an opinion doesn't mean to say the whole company have the same opinion. Nothing to do with moral. Everyone is entitled to have an opinion. People on here are mostly miserable OAP's who haven't moved with the times. They are trapped in a world that existed 25 years ago. The world has changed as I said above. Vegan's, feminists, religions, politics it doesn't matter everyone will do something that will upset people. It's the world we live in.1 point

Appeasement. Yes, who wouldn't watch a good two hours of appeasing television? Where exactly are you drawing the line on this for British world champions? Will cheese rolling get a mention? Wife carrying perhaps? Perhaps the appeasement should also extend to the section for those who passed away? There must have been hundreds of former professional footballers, rugby players, athletes, boxers and cricketers and so on who have passed on in 2018. It seems that is only reserved for those of national and international significance, just like, erm everything else on SPOTY. If SPOTY did serve up the type of exercise you are championing - a box ticking exercise to appease and untwist the knickers of the easily offended from every minority sport, then it truly would become an irrelevance. Wheelchair curling. Tick. Stock Car Racing. Tick. Blind Golf. Tick. The list goes on and on.... Instead, it still watched by 9m people, a five figure live audience, is front page news and it still winds you up weeks later.1 point

Irrespective of how much you do for the club, whether it is sponsorship or in kind, with the exception of track staff. The way to support the club is pay at the gate. While the meeting is on nobody expect riders, mechanics, team managers, promoters ???? and track staff should be in the pits area.1 point

+The result of Middlesbrough v Edinburgh was changed from 52-44 to 42-44 after Middlesbrough's Shane Parker’s 10 points were deducted after he used an oversized engine. Just found the info in my book, another I compiled, Alan Robertson's British Speedway Leagues 1991-14.1 point

You can’t have it both ways, if clubs want loyalty in the manner the initial post is suggesting and first refusal a year later then riders need to be contracted and salaried, you can’t have riders being self employed and therefore if they’re injured don’t get paid etc. But then come the end of the season have absolutely no control over who they sign for and at the mercy of a club. If you want it to be this way then clubs need to sign riders onto multi year contracts with a weekly wage agreed and performance related bonuses on top of that more like in say football as an example. But there’s simply isn’t the money in the sport to do this! The original post seems to forget these guys are people trying to make a living the same as anyone else, they’re fortunate to be skilled enough at something as fun a racing motorbikes against there friends for a living but that doesn’t make them any different to anyone else and should be treated accordingly. imagine you’re subcontracted to build an extension for a bigger firm. Once the job is done you get offered to build an extension for someone else for more money than the firm you’ve done a contracted job for, would it be reasonable let alone legal for that firm to say you can’t go and build an extension for someone else because I want you to do this for less money, I’m not willing to employ you full time and pay you a salary all year round but if you don’t agree because you’ve just sub contracted on a job for me, you can’t work anywhere else in this country for 12 months!! Farcical idea isn’t it!1 point
