  1. I must be missing something here. Yes it's not the best of situations at the moment but we've seen worse. It wouldn't take too much to put things right so I can't really see the point of throwing in the towel just yet. Give it another few months at least and if it doesn't improve then review the situation.

  2. This is all in almost complete contrast to the Ipswich situation With us all the worry was about not naming a team early and little or no news coming out - very different to our normal approach But once Santa Buster produced the Harris parcel from his sack that soon settled most nerves even if the team was seen as 'cannon fodder' Aside from that you wouldnt think Buster was involved at all with everything seeming business as usual and the club still very much 'ours' Crowds are up, performances have exceeded most expectations and racing quality has been up a notch or two and very enjoyable meetings has been the order of the day

  3. Now we are only 0.07 below the limit does that not tempt you back?

  4. You maybe right. However, the point remains : the get what you are given and be grateful, if you don't like it, don't come attitude remains a reason why speedway is on its knees.

  5. Huge result away at lower league team. Poole have turned the corner.

  6. I think James Shanes deserves a break. We even have someone who spent most of last season saying Swindon should sign him already talking about him being dropped. The fact is there is a minimum average of 3.00 this year, with no rider below that eligible for the top flight. Whoever comes in at 7 for Swindon is going to struggle, virtue of being the lowest averaged ridrr in the league. Do people really think Tom Bacon could come in and start beating the likes of Bradley Wilson-Dean? At least give James a chance before calling for his head. Swindon have a very strong top 3, and because of that other teams have had to go with a more solid line up. Any 3 pointer will find points hard to come by, and the best way is to stick with James and help get him up to speed. I thought he rode ok against Ipswich, even if the points aren't there yet. Zach and Dawid have started to score a few now. Who's to say James can't start soon. The level the league is this year, any opposition rider he beats will be a good result. At least wait until David Bellego drops low enough to come in!

  7. Take away Doyle and perhaps Fricke and there's not much of a difference between the leagues at all. With the Championship being strongly Northern based racing at that level would certainly see far better crowds as far more away supporters would travel, the racing would still be excellent and we wouldn't miss the GP riders as there is only one in the so called top league.

  8. Don’t think the promotion justified it by saying it was cold. But those who were able to go on Sunday benefited from the warm weather. So like me (who would have gone on Saturday) was grateful it had been called off due to the forecasted heavy rain. Is it forecast to rain this Saturday?

  9. Posts like this make me Basically, get what you're given, pay up and be grateful for it. People who attend speedway pay for the privilege, so they have every right to complain if things aren't up to reasonable scratch . Lets face it, we would about anything else. As to putting the club for sale, that's a bit like a butcher being forced to sell up and pinning the blame totally on customers for refusing to buy his rotten meat. One other thing : all those being critical on this thread should beware. SKJ and I know only too well what can happen to a fan who complains about the state of Sheffield's track.

  10. Did you get the BOGOF deal of same time next year for the relegation parade

  11. I have to agree. Give the kid a break, he's riding with an injury at the moment & we don't seem to be suffering carrying weaker reserves. The team was chosen to be top heavy by Rosco & I trust his judgement. Come on folks, you're beginning to sound like "Poole Whingers"! The teams done well so far.

  12. 4 possibly 5 of the teams are looking at it the same way so it really isnt a Lynn issue Remember to accomodate that something has to give elsewhere (usually at the bottom end) and you already claim to be defficient there too!

  13. Kasper and MPT are more than adequate to fill the reserve berths, and I'm sure if either can up their scores then Kerr will be more than efficient to occupy them spaces. But that not the problem. We need a No2 capable of scoring descent points every meeting. especially away from home....

  14. Excellent news. Thanks for posting that. What would we do without you? I'm sure that any disaffected Panthers fans feel so much better now

  15. But in the return Bagpuss i believe the Stars will be found wanting at the Abbey with to much pressure heaped on Robert. As much as i like both Jorgensen and Riss neither are second headers not yet anyway and i see the season for the Stars petering out unless a change is made.

  16. Good spot. I was working on his 4.55 which he started the year on. So basically he would have fitted until today. Often the difference between winners and losers is the winners do not hesitate when an opportunity arises.

  17. Im sure many Lynn fans would of been unhappy if an out and out Peterborough man purchased your club not because he really wanted it, but to as its been said just keep top flight speedway running and not bringing the team upto the points limit to be competitive Also if that person had also been doing sly things to enhance the chances of his beloved team to win a League they have never won before then im sure you also wouldn't be happy with that Chapman is even dividing Peterborough fans now making him even more unpopular and if the track manipulation is also true then what do you expect. Im sure he doesnt give a toss about Peterborough or Ipswich at the moment and will see it as job done with the league still running but if Peterborough goes under for whatever reason as has been said his beloved Lynn team will also suffer financially as well.

  18. I think the sums will be - Leicester may have brought 100/150 with them and we need it dry and sunny to make most of that; but Eagles might bring 20-30 so we'll keep everything crossed and wait til the last minute that we are obliged to pay the Rent b4 deciding.

  19. This team is a collection of riders who are known for their battling qualities, not for their renown brilliance. All the riders are capable of having a brilliant meeting, but they wont do it every week. In Lambert they have a top rider, a No1 any team would be proud of, but then we have a massive problem. Riss and Jorgensen are two quality riders, but they are not renown heatleaders and usually struggle when riding against established top riders. Procter and Kerr will never be good enough to become heatleaders, leaving us short of a second top rider. Until that position is filled we will continue along this same vane . Helped by the grippy track, we should win the majority of home matches. Whether we can win enough away points to reach the top 4 is another matter....

  20. Just go up the M18 and M180 in 40 minutes from Sheffield to see a real racers track. Ex Sheffield Promotors, Team Managers and ex riders seem to be at the EWR in Scunthorpe every meeting.

  22. I think most people accept that things can go wrong occasionally. Lights blow, tapes don't work, ambulance doesn't turn up, a good track is suddenly rubbish. We are, however, talking about once or twice a season. Sunday was Sheffield's 5th home meeting. Damian Bates commented in the Redcar programme that the racing 'wasn't what we wanted'. You can probably tell what it was like from that. Reading the threads on here, Scunthorpe was decent and Redcar nondescript. Leicester & Top Gun simply attracted angry and disillusioned comments. Once or twice a season, not 4 meetings out of 5. Sheffield can be a fine race track. They need to get this sorted, and soon.

  23. Would it not help Birmingham to make marketing decisions before the day of the meeting? so we made a great offer for junior supporters as £1 but this was on the day of the meeting would this not work days before the meeting and use social media to help advertise this offer?? Great offer though - am all for it, but the timing?

  24. What comment was totally "OTT" ? Do you think this current 1-7 will win a meeting this season ? The only "OTT" comment i have seen is someone describing Eddie Kennett as world class .

  25. Ged and team did a great job running and saving Peterborough. They decided to sell up for reasons stated. Surely if you are lucky enough to tempt a buyer in this game, you take it. Can’t see why the seller should be blamed for the buyers thereafter actions.

  26. Good post. Wasn't Rathbone the one that allegedly took money from a Polish club rather than have his best rider ride for the Panthers ? Not thinking of the fans or the other 6 riders if that's the case.. Could you imagine if Buster did that

  30. Busy few days coming up for Coty Garcia, two meetings for Berwick Friday and Saturday against Edinburgh, but before then he will be guesting in place of Dimitri Berge and riding for Belle Vue in their meeting at Poole tomorrow night.

  35. I agree with you entirely about the weather chat, but after last weeks early decision, it's bound to be a popular topic this week (imo) plus, it's a very long way for Eastbourne fans to travel midweek, so I think it's only fair to give them as accurate updates as possible.....just for the record my last (weather)comment was: If it helps (to any Eastbourne supporter)? It's lovely and sunny at the moment : ) and to be fair (in the past) PB has coped very well with rain....so I'm very hopeful! Have a great night too.....'Up the Brummies' !
    1 point
  36. Yeah quite possibly although we regularly clash with high profile CL fixtures and i have never noticed or heard it mentioned even to of affected the attendance. Most Brummies fans appear to hate football anyway with there fuddy duddy " you have a football fan mentality " if you dare to have an opinion. Ultimately i want as many people going to the Brummies as possible as i am sure you do and constant discussions about weather in my opinion do not help. I take it you have raised the white flag regarding local radio coverage ? only kidding up the Brummies and have a great evening.

  37. DD would NOT be justifying the reason for the call off, probably only mentioned it as it meant you had missed a cold and windy night. NOT a justification. Your response is probably why some promoters get pissed off when they try and do the right thing.

  38. well done Bruno. come and give it a try. I like yourself have found things less than perfect in the past but things are much improved this season with a good race track, a decent team and a good new manager. we may even have some good close matches with you heathens now that we have trained up young cleggy for you (joke) and if we can get luke chessell firing on all cylinders we should have some good scraps. up the potters.

  40. Despite various moans and groans neither you or anyone else have come up with the name of a rider who could replace Andersen better than Lambert did? And in a meeting Lynn had to win I won’t accept the name of a token youngster who would have been out of their depth. Riss or Jorgensen will step up to second heat leader this year....you heard it here first. I’d have thought Swindon’s eleven last places show the value of a solid team compared to a top heavy one. Give me the former any day.
    1 point
  41. it's happened to us all over the years... and will happen again, the crucial difference being that it had actually rained and the promotion didn't call the meeting off, they were justifying it last weekend saying they did the right thing because it was really cold anyway... so by that logic, will Saturday happen?
    1 point
  42. He is not that talented! However, I believe that it will end in financial tears and prove to have been several steps too far! Before the end of the season, the average gate at all three of Buster's clubs will be clear to those who count objectively and unless the financial backers who supported the plan to "save" the Premiership dig deeper, it will all fall to pieces. Overextended comes to mind.

  45. Sheffield was always in My top 3 British tracks. In recent years , the racing has been very disappointing in comparison to what I used to see..... indeed I now make a token 1 visit a year to see if there has been any improvement. Give me a good race track and I do not mind how far I travel to see entertaining racing.

  46. I guess the follow on questions to this are is the track equipment sub standard and in need of upgrading or are those operating the equipment not sufficiently qualified to do so? (its certainly a big coincidence that the wonder wheel, bowser and hydraulics all broke on the same morning). Im certainly not digging at the hard working volunteers but if people need more guidance that is down to the club to ensure it is supplied.

  47. Interesting to read in the SS the other week that Leicester's Saturday crowds in the 'second division' are up on the Monday crowds they got in the Premiership.. No GP 'superstars' riding there this year yet crowds are up? As you say, a Friday or a Saturday would get you at least 600 more I would say,... Twenty meetings, 600 extra, would equate to 12000 more fans.. At £18 that's over £200k more revenue... As you say, a great product, but not much use having something so good to sell if your opening times prevent customers from getting there.. Doesnt help itself Speedway sometimes does it?
    1 point
  48. Couldn't agree more. 2 big crowds, a decent track at last and also a good team with a proper number 1. Haven't had this much enthusiasm for speedway in years and know my mates feel the same. Lee Kilby is doing a great job as well. Who cares about a new stadium. As long as we are in the old one and have speedway then that's all that matters.
