KEY DATE AHEAD FOR MULTI-MILLION POUND OXFORD STADIUM PLAN OXFORD STADIUM could be revitalised by a £20-25 million investment which would include the return of Oxford Cheetahs – if the exciting plans of Nick Budimir come to fruition. The South Coast businessman revealed his intentions to supporters at a packed Chequers pub in Headington Quarry on Tuesday night, with his financier Peter Webb also in attendance, along with Alex Hollingsworth from Oxford City Council and former Oxford East MP Andrew Smith. Budimir would restore the stadium to full operation, with greyhounds, speedway and ancillary activities as part of his business plan, along with a small number of homes on the site. However, a major date is just ahead in the campaign to bring the decaying stadium back to life – when the planning inspectorate consider the Oxford Local Plan for the next generation ahead. The current stadium owners have a very different idea to Mr. Budimir when it comes to the future of the stadium - which would involve Galliard Homes developing the entire site for housing and spell the end of hopes of a return of speedway and greyhounds. The public have a crucial role to play on Tuesday, December 10th, from 10am to 1pm, when they can show the level of support for Mr. Budimir’s vision for the stadium to the planning inspectorate at the King’s Centre, Osney Mead, Oxford, OX2 0ES, as part of the overall hearing regarding the Oxford Local Plan. Legal representative Steven Sensecall, employed by the Save Oxford Stadium campaign group, will be putting forward a defence of why the stadium should remain. Budimir told supporters: “I don’t want to go into a gunfight armed with a knife. We are going in with a gun to take on Galliard and win this battle.” The council have approved the use of a CPO (Compulsory Purchase Order) should it be necessary, if the planning inspectorate rule in the favour of Budimir’s plans. Save Oxford Stadium chairman Ian Sawyer urged: “We need as many people as possible at the King’s Centre in Osney Mead between 10am and 1pm on December 10th, for the local plan hearing, because it’s vital that people show to the planning inspectors the level of enthusiasm behind Nick Budimir’s plans and how much passion there is for the stadium. “We need fans along there with their tee-shirts or jackets or scarves or anything which shows their support. “If Nick’s plans come to fruition it would be brilliant for fans of the Oxford Cheetahs, greyhound enthusiasts and the whole community. “The council have been very supportive, but they’ve done all they can for now – it’s the general public who can show the level of support to the planning inspectorate on December 10th.” Speedway came to a halt after 59 successive seasons at Sandy Lane following the 2007 season, with greyhounds also ceasing in 2012. Oxford City Council subsequently placed both heritage status and conservation status on the stadium, which have tied the hands of the stadium owners, in terms of any housing development on the site.

As a 21-year-old we consume sport through social media. For example, the NBA has grown so much because you can see highlights on all social media. If you want to grow the sport you need a new generation of fans and social media is a great way of doing that. Social media might get them through the gate for one meeting and then who knows what could happen.

Better idea... bin Pipe and bring in Barry Bishop, he knows the NDL inside out and also SDL and best marketing man in Speedway by miles. Let him develop a blueprint to keep standalone Clubs in business and also cater for those that want to run 2 teams. Pipe achieved exactly what is Speedway?

I see a couple of posters on the Oxford Mail website have suggested that its madness to contemplate spending a load of money on Oxford stadium to reopen dying sports like speedway and greyhound racing! While the slow demise of both sports is very true they aren't terminal and there are other agendas to consider as well like the stadium would be used for other activites and the overall social beneifits to the local community would be indeed very benefical!

Put it this way... He did alright against some big names in the GP qualifiers this year... He'll do a job in the Championship I'm sure and I can't wait to see my fellow Scandinavian ride Brough Park for the first time

Can we go back to the CL please? Fans were much nicer Auty = a decent rider on his day, but has bugger all to do with Sheffield anymore, so I’m at a loss as to why we seem to have pages discussing him, or why there is so much unnecessary abuse. Think there are a couple of people on here who need to take their handbags outside or just chill the hell out!!

News that Dan Gilkes is back with us in 2020 for the SGBC campaign plus some important announcements (of, er, announcements to come!) from Len are in this latest PR which follows: DAN'S THE MAN FOR THE KINGS! Kent TouchTec Kings are revealing the riders to fill their three remaining team slots for their inaugural SGB Championship [SGBC] season in 2020 this weekend – with the first name being one very familiar and even more popular among the Central Park Speedway-going public, it’s the titanic teenager who was the find of the National League [NL] last campaign, Dan Gilkes, Having risen up from a starting average of 2.00 and not having ridden a single competitive senior match before the start of last season, the youngster from Northampton rose up to heat leader level with an average in the NL of 8.00 – a brilliant effort of quadrupling his starting figures. A delighted Gilkes, who certainly has a very mature head on his 17-year-old shoulders posted a video on his own social media platforms to declare, “I am delighted to say I will be stepping up to the SGB Championship with Kent in 2020! “My first season with the TouchTec Kings in the NL was incredible. The promotion, track staff and importantly the supporters made me feel so welcome and everyone was incredibly supportive of me. It will be a challenging year ahead with lots of learning. But one that with the continued support I am sure, it will be another fantastic opportunity for me and the team to progress together. “To learn from Scott Nicholls was something that does not come to you every day. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to learn, gain knowledge and experience from the seven-time British Champion and ex Grand Prix rider.” Co-promoter Len Silver spelt out the way the team building has been going, as he expressed delight at getting Gilkes’ signature for another year at Central Park, “Chris and I have been very busy over the last month or so, and in particular since the day we were officially accepted into the SGBC, in finding riders who wanted to ride for the TouchTec Kings. I can now reveal that we have agreements with all seven riders to wear the Touch-Tec body colours for 2020 and part of that successful and short series of negotiations is due to the help we received from our new No 1, Scott Nicholls, and I am very grateful for that." The veteran supremo went on, “The next signing for the 2020 season, I can tell you, is a very popular returnee from our NL side last season, Dan Gilkes, Dan is picked in what will be his first season at this higher level because of his huge potential. He is investing in a new engine and clutch and, interestingly, Scott has asked that Dan be placed next to him in the pits. That news was greeted with delight from the Gilkes family (and me!)." And tantalisingly he went on, “There are now two names still to be placed in the public arena which, with the individual agreements of the riders themselves, these two will be disclosed over this week-end. I am personally delighted at the seven who have chosen us. I hope all our loyal supporters are too.” Finally, Silver had further updates concerning the club’s plans for 2020, “The NL promoters’ meeting was adjourned without any final decisions being made earlier this week and there will be another meeting in December. However, if the numbers and format remain as being suggested (showing a probable seven teams), then Kent will be part of it. “On the team building front for the SGBC, Rob Ledwith has been allocated a 4.00-point average by the BSPA in consideration of his previous history at second tier level and that It is expected that Ledwith and Gilkes will fill the 6 & 7 positions.”

Now, if the promoters of the Premiership clubs are reading, it’s an idea that needs to be thought about for everyone.Offer ‘away’ fans £10 entry on a season ticket. Speedway fans are always moaning that it’s too expensive and there aren’t many away fans, well here’s their opportunity to implement something for 2021. I go away a couple of times a season. However, the trip to Belle Vue for the final, which was £25 all in, was great value and showed that co-operation between clubs is a WIN WIN all round. It was my first visit and it’s an excellent facility. BV received an extra 50 fams that probably wouldn’t have travelled, I’ll be honest I wouldn’t have gone otherwise, and it adds a bit of atmosphere. I will definitely travel to BV again. If similar opportunities to the BV initiative are offered by Swindon for the current season all Premiership clubs will benefit across the board. Time for the promoters to put their thinking caps.

Not necessarily, they might be saving the bigger names til the final announcements. I’d be staggered if last years top three don’t return.

The jackets I was after was from the year before, so you could say its my own fault for not buying one when they were available the season before. Maybe the club could look at an on line shop, merchandise could be picked up at the track once ready.

Chance would be a fine thing, I asked at the club shop if they still did team jackets as in previous year but alas no.

Im guessing you weren't going regularly when Kings Lynn ran a NL side (in fairness not many people went regularly and that was the problem) however the comments from those who did attend and the visits i had was that the entertainment was far higher at NL level than the top flight gate and go. Shame it didn't prove to be sustainable in the end.

"For the record in these deepest parts of East Anglia, Mildenhall speedway more often than not is better value for money than its higher League neighbours at Ipswich and King's Lynn!" Its funny you should say that 25 Year Fan. I was thinking the same thing! After several trips to Kings Lynn this year, where it was "gate and go" I got pretty bored, so had a few trips to Mildenhall instead. Living just south Norwich its around the same distance to each track for me. I must admit from an entertainment point of view, I enjoyed my visits to Mildenhall much more. Sitting on the backstraight on a sunny Sunday afternoon with some lovely chips in my hand was very enjoyable, and the racing was more unpredictable. Its a pity the track is so small, but I guess you can't have everything. I shall still visit both tracks in 2020, but Mildenhall wins on both entertainment, value for money and the best fish & chips!

That's a thought that I can't get out of my mind. Your conclusion of 40.5 however would break the habit of a lifetime in speedway promoting by Adams and CVS.

The national league has hardly enough fans now..It would be crazy to reduce the standard......Youngsters can learn from the older riders in the teams,,and it is so important,there is this level to bring them on,to the point they can progress to the higher levels

Wouldn't really be a fair cup then. Regionalisation in the league is enough I'd have said. Glasgow and Edinburgh are likely to meet at least 6 times. 3 home, 3 away. 4 of those in the league, 2 in the Scottish cup

I am not sure about all this negativity I have always regarded Lewis as a decent rider , maybe not as good as he was prior to his bad crash but still a good rider who can win you meetings on his day.

If you look at the detail, I don't think he's got worse as the seasons have passed. Last year was a breakthrough season for him and he was an and out heatleader in the top league. He's the classic British rider, does well on his own shore. I've described him as bang average previously and by that I mean what I've typed above. He's the kind of rider you'd prefer in your team than against it.

Are the animals at Dudley Zoo more sensitive than the animals at Belle Vue were?

The NDL has been a good training ground because it had a mix of young riders learning their trade helped by the old hands who knew they would probably never move into the higher leagues but enjoyed racing and passing on their knowledge to the youngsters. Maybe there needs to be a limit on over 25 or 30 year olds in the league but they are an important part of the development of the young riders. The older riders also improve the standard of racing and help the stand alone clubs provide a spectacule that is worth watching on a regular basis. Making the NDL into a juniors only league would see it vanish faster than a GP rider after he is told how much he can earn in the Premiership.
