If anyone wants a copy of Speedway promoter - dm me your email address. It won't install on Windows 10 or W8 or W7 but you may have luck with W2000. It definitely works on W95 , W98 and XP (edit: thanks for info below) No idea about installing on Apples.3 points

but you had dealings with all of these riders and wrote about them in your time as speedway correspondent for the SLP .. by the way, Terry Mussett, Igor Plechanov, and Gary Sweet aren't in the picture so you should know them all2 points

I opened up the save game file in notepadd++ and was able to mess about with things. 5,0,14,26,1000,3.46,6.92,1.46,6.92,2,0,0,0,0 26 is Age - 1000 is Value - 3.46 is EL avg - 6.92 is PL avg. The rider names are in the in the files aswell Whilst another line of info is "Charlie Gjedde",18,23,4.45,8.89,0,4 - 23 being age - 4.45 EL avg - 8.89 Pl avg - 4 is Danish nationality It's all I've worked out so far2 points

Been past the stadium today. Whilst all locked up and only basic viewing from the canal toepath: The front car park is completely tiled and looks impressive (anyone remember the moon craters) No BMR sign as you enter the car park from the road The outside of the gym seems completed (where chip shop was) First and second bend terracing levelled with slight gradient, (should prove a spectator viewing point). Pits and Tempstand as before2 points

It's interesting and ironic that the self same people who have spent the last 10 years saying that austerity has cost lives, are the same ones who are now complaining that restarting the economy is going to cost lives.2 points

What more details do you require other than those already in the comments section?2 points

Superb , he was outstanding in 1999 and had many guest bookings in the EL for Pboro and impressed. sadly got stitched up by Kokko and Norris on his EL debut in 2000 for Poole and smashed his wrist to bits , came back and whilst he didnt get worse he never looked being the future star he did pre 2000. dropped back to Newport in 2002 and was still a classy number one and made some good passes but mainly relied on his gating which he hadnt done before his big crash. lindqvist was another Wasp who had a shocking yet simple shoulder injury in 1999 that ruined his career. wato tho in 1999 was a class act, went to Swindon for our two wins there and he was always flying later on in the meeting when it mattered. loved Smart too, he was so exciting to watch and for a rider who quite litreally only probably gave 45-50 percent of his life to the sport , was unbelievable. They dont make them like that anymore.2 points

Back to the pic, and there will be more "shocks" if gustix can't get the guy next to Haggis. Perhaps the greatest all-round motorcyclist ever.1 point

A trend in general in the GP era. Is it that a season of performing at the highest level is exhausting and unsustainable? Compared to world final era which required a one night peak, and maybe the experience having won gave an added mental toughness?1 point

do YOU know any of the other riders? serious question if you don't, then i seriously doubt your claim to have ANYTHING to do with speedway as dubious at best1 point

Soon as we can find out what most of the data is exactly then updating riders wouldn't be too hard? (I hope)1 point

Pleased that you enjoyed the trip down memory lane. I was going to use the Top of the Pops theme tune but I prefered Baze Away. Yes, it was a shame that more did not engage they cannot moan if their team did not make the top 30 race jackets if they dd not vote, but not to worry and thanks Steve or your vote. Now back to other things.1 point

That was brilliant! I thoroughly enjoyed watching the count down (bit like when I used to watch "Top of the Pops") and got more excited when the City 'Rebels'" emblem just got pipped by the "Ace"! There were some interesting entries. Great job...just a shame more people didn't engage. We need some distraction from the issues we are presently facing.1 point

Getting back to to Wimbledon memories, the most recent issue of Backtrack has a feature on Wimbledon second half riders from the Backtrack era. Certainly rang some bells with the track obviously a magnet for young hopefuls in the early 70's, but less so in the later 80's. Plenty went on to good careers elsewhere, others less so. From my time going to Plough Lane from 1981, Phil Vance was a regular as was Jay Pleece and other names like Ian Hunter, Paul Hilton and Chris Standen.1 point

Seriously John, as others have rightly told you multiple times now, Terry Mussett rode plenty for them even i remember that... actually 80 odd matches according to a stats website i just checked. After which he came to my team Reading for a spell. He wasn't the best but that's irrelevant. You're getting silly again with a few of your posts recently aren't you.1 point
-
It seems like you are trying to convince everyone that Terry Mussett never rode for Wimbledon, and that this all some elaborate hoax that we've conjured up in an effort to fool you! It's not! Whether you remember him or not is irrelevant; he rode for us! Why the hell you would make that comment about seeking info on him on a FB group is beyond me...1 point

As not many people have bothered to vote i have closed the voting as this topic is sinking faster than the Titanic. the top 30 race jacket video is now on YouTube for a limited time only at https://youtu.be/BdPJDoi3q-0 Many thanks to those forum members who voted.1 point

I thought the R level went up because of care homes which don’t really affect the general public. Most hospitals are quite quiet at the moment.1 point

A very sad loss. Such a nice chap. Hopefully a lovely tribute to Gordy will be coming when speedway returns to Wimborne Road.1 point

I think that crisis is well over now... in fact the way things look at the moment the NHS will be taking the summer off (along with the teachers). There's only 10% of critical care beds in use and A&E's are like ghost towns. The death rate at the end of April was actually below the 5 year average1 point

Agree. His stats for the Elite League over such a duration are mind blowing . Posted 10 point plus figures for ten years in a row. Superb. remember seeing him at the 2001 Cardiff GP and the next day at the Welsh Open at Newport and was gobsmacked by how good he was. Although the first time i seen him live was the 1999 ELRC at Coventry. And he won that as well. rickardsson though was absolutely superb at Grand Prix level, where it mattered most of course. But as for league speedway , id of taken Adams or Crump every time. Although i do wonder if Trick didnt put the full effort into league speedway . i will never forget a story from Craig Watson about Trick during their time at Poole together. Rickardsson blew His engine on the stand warming up before a meeting for his main bike and couldnt of cared less, just took his third bike out the van like it was usual . overall, from 1999 to present day, in all comps, id have to say Trick, pedersen, crump and adams would be the best 4 i have seen. Gollob for my liking was too hot and cold. I personally dont think woffy would of lived with them in their primes.1 point

"Easy Jet have been brilliant" You must be joking. You have been done up like a kipper IMHO. Well, you might have a worthless piece of paper (an IOU ) so if Easyjet decide to remain in business you might get a flight from them form some airport to where you want to go at an inflated price - which will make their "£10" gesture worthless. I have put my refund into the hands of my credit card company for a refund under section 75.1 point

So many messages on Poole Speedway's social media platforms regarding the passing of Gordon Day yesterday. Tributes from promoters, managers, riders, journos, sponsors, mechanics and of course the fans from many clubs from all around the world.. Sadly missed. Rest in Peace Gordy.1 point

Could not agree more. I have not needed any of the assistance offered as I have friends/family who have been able to meet our needs; but others I know have made use of the support and they report only positive things. In addition as a small business owner i cannot fault the various types financial assistance we have had, so far, and the excellent way the claims processes have worked.1 point

R.I.P. Gordy. He was a permanent fixture at Poole Speedway for many many years and could always be found in the pits on match days. He was the 'go-to' guy for all and any information about speedway - not just Poole - and friend to many riders, sponsors and fans. His family would like to stress that Gordy's death was NOT Covid 19-related. Sincere condolences to Barbara and his family.1 point

@Spooky I’m getting the run around from BSI with Warsaw tickets. T&Cs state no refund but the cancellation email said this was waived and PZM would be in touch with how to refund - this was weeks ago. Having contacted BSI numerous times they seem to be abdicating any responsibility and telling me to go back to kupbilet who in turn tell me to contact the PZM who you can’t contact! To be honest it’s put me off buying future GP tickets (particularly seeing them hide behind the no refunds for the rearranged Prague and SoN finals - yes it’s in T&Cs but already here in the UK the CMA has ruled this is illegal and unjust.1 point

This topic has been covered a million times on here and in the speedway press. Sadly those in the position to make real either won't or can't. No my own personal take on the sport. One spring evening in 1989 I was taken to my local track Ipswich by a family friend at the age of 12. I was instantly hooked and gave up watching football to go every week. The sound the smell the action on track was all very exciting compared to football. At that time the crowd cheering or jeering and the banter with the rival fans who were next to you was great. This was also apparent at other tracks I visited following the witches Hackney, Peterborough during those first two seasons and then Kings Lynn in 91. Atmosphere and passion from the crowd and the riders. Those first two seasons gave me my first and only speedway heros Loram, Moggo and oddly given he rode for the opposition Galvin. The national league days at Foxhall of 89,90 were superb so many different riders most clubs visited once a season the crowd's were good and as I said passion and atmosphere, and as several school mates alos went Friday was speedway discussion day. As I went though my teenage years and into my early 20s friendships were formed that stand to this day and the social side of speedway came to the for. For me the first time I became aware of speedway politics was the winter of 98,99 when dispite being agreed the year before the league champions could no longer keep their team. After that various micky mouse decisions that the BSPA made over a 10 year period drove me away as a regular the social group that used to go went once last year. Since my last ever present season of 2007 I have been to around 15 home meetings. That group of friends once ever presents most have totally walked away a few like me do one or two a year. For me the key points for my decline in intrest are the lack of passion from the riders for their team, doubling up and down the over use of guests and the rocket ship equipment that is not suited to the UK tracks. The BSPA had a superb opportunity to re invent the sport with the sky money and turn it into a proper professional sport between 199 and 2006 but failed to capitalise on it. Looking back reading speedway books etc the infighting with the BSPA seems to have been going on for years, John berry's books certainly show that. So will the sport change or die sadly given the evidence of how the BSPA operates both now and historically it will die out. In my own personal opinion the most professionally run league set up this county had was the old national league. I want nothing more than to go along to a meeting a get the wow I have to come next week feeling and become hooked again, instead of the see you next year.1 point

No matter what ways anyone loks at the situation the club are in the wrong, you can say whatever you like about clubs going out of business, this guy has paid around £500 and cant even get a reply, Peterboro speedway are treating their customer with contempt, I personally would request my money be returned, and then i would take my custom elsewhere..1 point

Probably one of the best assessments I've read lately, but it is far too sensible to be incorporated into our leagues. I don't know of another business that cost more to run than it generates. When Sponsors monies are needed to balance the books, then it time to call it a day. I'm amazed the sport has lasted as long as it has. When you read about the costs paid to riders and the value of the equipment they race, you don't need to be Einstein to understand the promoters need more than the scant crowd to make it pay, Its a recipe for disaster. It hurts me greatly to see the direction this sport has taken. Its as though nobody gives a damn for bread and butter racing and the fans who support it, The sport now is governed by the riders, who are only concerned with is how many meeting they can do and how much can they earn... Loyalty count for very little. The only way sport in this country can survive, is we forget about SGP and the Polish league, and run our own sport on our terms. if that means racing on a Saturday then so be it.... We are not good enough to compete on their basis anymore.... but less this way, we can run the show as we please....1 point

It is with great sadness that we have to report the passing of Gordon Day. He was associated with Poole speedway for many many years, as press officer and historian. He was a walking speedway encyclopedia, and also a very good guitarist Everybody at poole speedway is shocked and saddened. My condolences go out to Barbara and the family. RIP Gordon Day0 points
