Why don't you just shut up about it now, and leave this section for Sheffield related items. If by some other worldly chance in the next few years your idea is anywhere near correct, start a new topic "I told you so " or similar. If there's no BSF by then if the state has taken all liberty away as you're convinced we'll remember you were right all along.4 points

Wouldn’t be British Speedway without something like this though, would it?4 points

So did Crump, but people can come out of it if they want! During the first lockdown when Poole showed title winning highlights and talked to the main riders from that season along with sometimes management, Matt was trying to get Bjarne to agree to ride in the Championship! Maybe he has worn him down! IDK.2 points

Also on the first bend, probably after shoving past Lefty when leaving the Top House! About half a dozen of us hired a crap cheap mini bus for the weekend, the plan was to camp anywhere we saw suitable. Left Friday evening, stopped at a pub on the A1 near Peterborough for a beer, set off again then back to pub to retrieve my coat complete with tickets that I'd forgotten, then camped at some service station. Top House, final then on to Halifax for the evening meeting then pub. Then looked for somewhere to camp, it was pissing with rain by then and very dark, finally found some quiet flat area to pitch the tents, just got set up when flashing blue lights descended upon us. We were apparently camping on a cricket pitch and were politely asked to bugger off. Moved on and we all slept in the van. Onto Belle Vue for the test match then broke down on the way home. Happy Days!2 points

Och aye that was no a bad idea ya had there... The beer's were very welcome but no cigars as I have never smoked and don't intend to start now and on the choice of viewing I prefer something a bit more educational like "Rab C Nesbit" as it gives an insight into the Glasgee psyche and mentality and also goes someway into explaining some of the pish that gets posted on here... do ya ken what a mean there Gash... (or is it Wee Burney)… #sadface #sadface #confusedface #threeamigos #threestoogies #threesuckholes... Regards THJ2 points

I think that if the tracks can keep their pre Covid crowd levels then they will have done well... Two main reasons.. One, the demographic of the fan base and the % level of it that is in the higher risk categories, there are still many questions to be answered around how the various vaccines will cope with the usual mutant strains that evolve from a virus, let alone deal with the original one... And two, the financial hit to everyone that will inevitably have to be taken to pay for the huge black hole in the countries finances... Speedway (and sport in general) will be a long way down the priority order as to how money is spent I would think.. And a possible third impact is a bit more random, but my mates and I have all had Season Tickets at Old Trafford for a few years but probably won't be renewing.. The reason? Not particularly financial for us, but simply we have got out of the habit of going, and pretty much decided that watching the game in the comfort of your own armchair is "fine" and that spending over a grand a year, plus circa £100 a match getting there, eating and drinking, isn't really money well spent.. Many ex fans say on here how after a month or so of not going to Speedway that they didnt miss it, and that they too often simply attended out of habit... In marketing it is reckoned that if you do something/or stop doing something, for 28 days it becomes your 'new normal, hence campaigns are often around four weeks in length to try and influence that change.. Getting people to go back to doing something after well over 18 months has passed will be a serious challenge and will need a very strong campaign of advertising I would say... Lets hope with Eurosports involvement and support the campaign can be successful.. But the size of the challenge certainly shouldn't be underestimated..2 points

Yeah josh is unlucky ! On a championship spot so far but I'm sure he will feature in the national league at some point like he did from 2017 to 2019 with Stoke Birmingham & Leicester... If the speedway starts ?2 points

Everyone has a role to play in the future of the sport I think for domestic Speedway if its £15/20 with kids free then that is an OK price2 points

Apparently shale is the preferred surface for the foreign stars of stock cars which the promoters want to attract to Odsal.2 points

The one thing i do hope is that riders are limited to two leagues this year. The whole tripling up thing becomes laughable and blocks up teams sports for those other riders trying to progress.2 points

It’s all an absolute nonsense. A good idea ruined by a stupid grading system. Surely averages can’t be used for determining grades, otherwise, why not just use averages and forget grades? There should just be a group of “British juniors” and any team should be able to sign whoever they wish without averages or grades dictating that.2 points

I think kieran Douglas is probably 1 of the most unluckiest lads to be overlooked for a NL spot especially after Buxton closed2 points

With all the problems surrounding Brexit and the current travel restrictions which are likely to continue for a while, I think that to use British riders was the right move. While I don't study team make ups normally, being a bit bored in lockdown, I saw the figures on this forum which made interesting reading. It looks like Eastbourne, who chose Brits for 2020, and able to keep them all under the new rules ( which I have not had the chance to get to know and/or understand) have the strongest team in the league. Almost everyone else, who had listed foreigners originally (like Covatti at Kent) is now playing catch up. No one's fault, just the extreme circumstances that have hit us. For myself I will not worry about winning or losing this year, just happy if I can see some action.2 points

Slightly unusual question - my mum has recently been watching reruns of Tales of the Unexpected on TV, and in the episode entitled "William and Mary" (Series 1 Episode 3) there is a scene where a speedway heat is showing on a TV set in the background. Does anyone know which track is featured in the footage?1 point

It's this news or no news....take your pick. Everyone's being very economical with the information flow, especially in terms of filling the two remaining team slots. Or maybe the Masonic Order realise that it's not worth the effort as there's probably not going to be any league racing this year anyway.1 point

Just to add to the intrigue around Poole's team re-building for 2021, on the facebook 'Memories of Poole Pirates' page, the administrator posted a Speedway Star cover showing Jason Crump and Bjarne Pedersen winning the Pairs back in 2007. Underneath was a comment from Matt Ford " Watch out for some extremely exciting news about these guys"!!! Let the intrigue commence.............1 point

I've never doubted the existence of some sort of virus that makes people ill to some degree. However I have always challenged suggestions that this is a pandemic, or that it has any greater overall impact than regular flu. On 29 September 2020, the worldwide coronavirus death toll topped one million, but the estimates of the worldwide death toll of Spanish flu range between 17 and 50 million. Either way, that was a REAL pandemic. The World Health Organisation estimates that between 290,000 and 650,000 people die worldwide every year from influenza-related causes, but numbers "spike" periodically when we have a bad flu year. A million deaths worldwide would certainly place Covid in that category, but not even a drop in the ocean in real pandemic terms. If you were to ask me, I can tell you chapter and verse on where and how Covid originated (and it wasn't Wuhan, or even China!) and the evidence is overwhelming that it was a deliberate strategy by agencies acting on behalf of "Big-pharma" to create a worldwide "hoax pandemic" to meet their nefarious goals.1 point

I think Rowe is on everyone radar, made huge strides over the past season and has disproven the doubts i had about him. Max would be a home expert but struggle away (but has plenty of company in that respect) sadly Max came through the ranks when youth backing wasn't as strong and has never had the backing to really push on consistently to the higher levels1 point
-
Not sure if Max is allowed/should be allowed now he have a four/five plus CL average and a 2021 CL team place. But I'm sure all the CL #7's will want to ride in the NL. Alcock averaged 4.36 for Stoke. Last winners of NL were Leicester: Perks, Hume, Ruddick, Terry-Daly, Embleton/MacDonald and the Thompson twins (who started as 2 pointers) So you only need 2 or 3 established riders to have a viable team. With all the comebacks who knows who's next? Maybe that's how you end up with a hernia For the Sapphires wouldn't Archie and Danny step up to the 500's with Owen Booth and A N Other on the 125's? Did I read somewhere that the lad Trigger (no not that one) who rides in the British Youth Champs was connected to the Diamonds? Anyways we seem to have hijacked THJ's official thread so apologies for that.1 point

Covid/ Polish League is the straw that broke the camel’s back. Speedway’s issues date back a long time before Poland became the dictators of all things Speedway. For 20/30 years Promoters have just kicked the can down the road until there is nowhere left to kick it. My interest has declined year on year until there is little to nothing left in it for me. Will be interesting to see where they pitch it price wise and the crowds that are prepared to watch it.1 point

Let's be honest that's not really "massive news" signing a junior who's never been more than a NL reserve!1 point

Things could swing either way for Speedway if it gets to start. With what's been near 12 months of restrictions the idea of open air sports may appeal, even to those that's never been before. British Speedway need to be prepared & push local area marketing.1 point

As I say, no criticism, (or comparison), it was just I saw Cook at No1 and presumed I was in the Glasgow thread, (forgot he had gone to KL).. As you say, the PL team will still hammer a Champ team due to the Champ team being diluted to maintain the gap.. It was just a bit of shock to see how weak the top league had become, 'if' that is a confirmed PL team obviously... Could still be a competitive season though if all teams are truly similar from the outset so let's hope they can all put out such teams and get some decent racing for the first year of Eurosports coverage.. If it takes off then 'new stars' will be found, and the 'old stars' won't be known to any new audience watching anyway, so their absence won't diminish the standard perception to them.. And that type of team must be more affordable surely? Which can only be a positive...1 point

can see these young kids doing NL and championship but 3 leagues would probably put a bit of strain on them just now1 point

Is he really a future star though? Been knocking around for years without progressing an awful lot. The rides being suggested are Kemp, Flint, Palin, the Thompson twins, Brennan and Rowe. These are teenagers who could progress nicely with the right development path. Some of them have Polish contracts already.1 point
-
Personally imo if riders put Poland and another league or two before the UK which i can understand from a riders perspective as Zloty rules. But if they are dropped by their team or not getting many starts they shouldn't be allowed back to ride in the UK for the season. We can't be seen as a soft touch. Some of those may already be thinking if i get dropped by my overseas team i will always get a spot back in the UK.Don't let them take the mick.1 point
