We had that conversation at Shawfield back in the glory years when we were thumping everyone at home . It does actually get boring after a while . Give me what we have now every time , and if we manage to win something - fine , if not then as long as the entertainment on view stays the same .9 points

Speedway hopefully returning to Somerset and 15 minutes or so up the road from the old track. Let’s keep our fingers crossed!7 points

Nathan Ablitt has been signed up for Wroclaw in the Polish U.24 league in 2023. Good lad.4 points

Yeah. He threw the towel on the sofa early this morning and claimed it before I wake up. Cheeky German ****3 points

What do you actually get for winning? Are there any financial benefits? Winning put Workington out of business a couple of years back!! Who outside a few hundred hardcore fans actually cares about who wins what?3 points

A few seniors at Peterborough didn’t pay anything to get in for the last two seasons apparently. Their excuse? They were riding for the Panthers!3 points

A multiple GP winner, an U21 World Champion, a British U21 Champion and several National title winners and you don't think that's a capable team? Do tell what or who you are looking for?2 points

But the only league they all rode in regularly so the only way to compare them properly somebody made a good point earlier in the thread about Ablitt overtaking the likes of Coles, Stoneman and possibly Atkins over the course of the season as he is young and will improve whereas they've been around a while. Certainly hope he gets a spot in the Champs, and of course rides in Poland will do him the world of good.2 points

Mulford didn't start the season with BV as he was a late replacement for Parkinson Blackburn. Nathan started the season and missed the last meeting at Edinburgh.2 points

I remember him holding Doyle out for 3 laps back in August. Best of luck to the lad, and Jack with Ippo.2 points

It would be a really good track for him, he has genuine speed. Chucks his toys out his pram a bit, but if Lemon can get that out of his game then could be a really good signing.2 points

First poiny - winning didn’t put Workington out of business. It was years of over trading and late paying that did that. They were going to fail at some point but the winning streak just speeded that up. As far as financial benefits are concerned, ask Poole how much they made from the play off final. Or Leicester how much they expected to make. These are £30,000-£40,000 events with costs the same as a normal league event. And winning teams, promoted well, encourage more support. In my opinion. .2 points

I’m very much of the opposite thinking. your 6 and 7 have to do 30% (28.57)of the rides for the team. If your team is carrying 2 x 2 pointers and they make their average that leaves 42 points required to get a win before heat 15. That works out at 2.1 points per rider per race. 4-2’s won’t cut it. last year Poole could carry one two pointer as Nathan only did 3 rides a night (10%) leaving the rest of the riders requiring to score 1.76 points per ride(4-2’s now cut it) to secure a win by the end of heat 14. if you think that your 1-5 can all average 8.4 a meeting then that’s the way to go. I’d go with a 4 pointer at 6 and take the #7’s 4th ride unless he’s scored 2 already in the meeting. (Pretty much what Poole did with Nathan all season)2 points

Don't think so, Complin's away ave was far better than his home ave for Newcastle. Put him on a home track he likes & his average could rise.2 points

Any rider can change his mind until contracts are signed. Lawson last year decided against Plymouth & headed to Poole, Redcar suggesting Jenkins was gonna stay before going to Oxford. I don't particularly blame the riders as clubs are quick to drop a rider when it suits them.2 points

Guessing Lidsey will end up as third heat leader, or that is at least the hope. Does Lidsey start at reserve? Don't know anything about Jake Mulford. Does that mean Kemp & Rowe have no premiership place in 2023?1 point

Does anybody know if Troy Batchelor has a championship side for next season? Places seem to be filling up fast so not many teams left that could fit him in?1 point

Our problem has been the lack of heat winners away from home. 2019 was our best season and with a bit of luck we could have won the play offs and that was the year we had three strong heat leaders - Cook, Rasmus Jensen and Vissing. Teams that do well in the play offs usually have a strong top three.1 point

What does it matter? PC has no personal affinity with the NSS and no-one from Belle Vue's management has made contact with him or us as his publisher to express any interest in hosting such an event. It's not as if it could be held to coincide with a speedway meeting either. Besides, the Longsight social club - who did approach us and are keen to make use of their facilities - is festooned with Aces memorabilia, proudly celebrating Belle Vue's history.1 point

This highlights some of HT's comments Steve, as we get older some get more cantankerous and principled which is why the BSPwhatsit should retain it where possible. If it goes many may cut their noses off to spite their face and stay at home. In my own case, on a pension, I had planned my expenditure against my income to leave me a couple of hundred quid a month for leisure. That has been consumed by the increase in the cost of energy (from £62 a month to £160), fuel for my car from £52 a tankfull to £85 twice a month and my grocery shopping which is pretty stable in content is up roughly by 20%. Now as HT points out everyone is affected by these rises and it doesn't matter how long pensioners strike for, nobody will enter into negotiations with us, it's a worry so spending £20 plus fuel and whatever else now needs thinking about. I couldn't go to my nearest track on my own for less than £45 and that's without a programme or a cup of tea. Sheffield have been criticised for raising their admission prices but in reality they have little choice, by the time you take vat out of the admission income and then realise the relatively high concession mix it just doesn't add up and without "Everything R Us" as significant sponsors there really would be a short term risk at Owlerton.1 point

Yes but this is the Champ and he rode for BV in NL, so not really home advantage. Have seen Nathan beat Starke, James Sarjaent at Edinburgh twice, Ben Morley at Plymouth and Bailey at Poole twice. Sure there are others but those are the ones that I remember the most.1 point

It does seem odd, Nathan now has year and a half champ experience, looking at make up of most teams have 1 if not 2 inexperienced reserves this season. You'd think he'd be one of better reserves in the league1 point

Exactly that. Trophies are a bonus when you have great racing. If you don’t have great racing, they’re the only thing… and then, the numbers don’t add up. The best thing about the Facennas isn’t the money thrown at riders, it’s the investment in the track and the product. Plus a great team of track staff - Paul, Chris and the others invest incredible hours putting it together during the season and they almost always get it spot on, which isn’t always easy with our weather.1 point

Not having an actual leaving date for the showground can't help either tbf1 point

Any rider who improves his average by 1:5 points has done incredibly well. I’m sure that if he just improves on the assessed 2 the club and the fans will be happy. Remember Tom Wooley ? the Redcar fans loved him.1 point

The way the majority of fans now watch it I would say... A great spectacle and can still be a great evening out, but best not to take the outcome too seriously given the often contrived nature of its operating model.. I attended five meetings last year in the UK domestic leagues, including both play offs, and they were great entertainment, with some good "old school" hard riding and plenty of controversy.. The fact the Aces won was "a bonus", but if the Tigers had won I would still have felt that I had watched two excellent sporting contests to rival anything else, entertainment wise, that I had paid to see in 2022... No point putting a club under financial pressure simply to try to win any Speedway league given the lack of financial reward and publicity generated by "success"... Only one team can be Champions at the end of each season, but all need to be in existence at the end of each season...1 point
