  2. Wouldn’t expect you to say anything else Lisa, Holder will do no wrong in your eyes. You think this sort of thing doesn’t go on all the time? Don’t be naive of course it does. Not everyone lights the blue touch paper and blabs on social media though. Your lot for instance signed a rider last winter that had already signed for someone else months earlier. It’s business, it happens.

  4. Drew Kemp is another example. He recently admitted he was told not to sign for anyone else as he was guaranteed a ride for a club, but then was let down by that club who signed someone else and left him without a ride. He could have named that club, but to his credit he didn’t do that and kept it professional. Holder could learn a thing or two by someone over ten years his junior!

  5. The negative publicity isn’t ideal obviously, but that isn’t the fault of anyone at the club. That’s down to a pi$sed off rider who knew exactly what he was doing by going public which has opened up a can of worms that others have now jumped in on including other riders now sticking the boot in. This kind of thing goes on all the time behind closed doors, loyalty is a two way thing. Sometimes clubs let riders down, sometimes riders let clubs down. It’s business but it should be kept in house.

  6. I have to disagree or at least question what you are saying. True, there might be some question over whether an authority other than the SCB can run 'speedway' events. But even if a track is licenced by the SCB, that should not prevent it running meetings that are not SCB. Secondly, if a meeting at an SCB licenced track is run by NORA, then the rider should not need permission from anyone to compete because he has a right - enshrined in case law - to ride where he chooses without interference. I fail to see how the SCB can be held liable for a meeting that is completely outside their control simply because that meeting is held at a track they have licenced for their events but - crucially - not others. Riders would not be insured by the SCB for such a meeting but NORA has its own insurances that they can purchase. At this stage - I must admit I haven't read the Speedy Star article - I fail to see any ground why a track cannot run both SCB and non SCB meetings and the SCB's actions look to me like nothing more than doing their best to stop an alternative league from developing. I'm certainly not convinced that anything they have come up with is for any other reason, despite the attempts to dress it up as such. As I have said before, attempting to prevent a track using its own facilities or a rider from competing looks very much like a restraint of trade (definition :The principle that an individual should be free to follow his trade and use his skills without undue interference. The principle renders a contractual term purporting to restrict an individual's freedom to work for others or carry out his trade or business void unless it is designed to protect legitimate business interests and no wider than reasonably necessary) to me, because it has the effect of stopping the track or rider accessing a further revenue stream. Within the terms of English case law, that's illegal and other sporting authorities who have tried to do so - darts, cricket, ice skating come to mind - have all been very much put in their place by court rulings.

  7. So far in this thread you’ve suggested: Jensen, Ellis, Harris, Riss, Douglas, Bjerre, MPT, King, Vaculik, Huckenbeck, S Lambert, Wright, Kerr, Batchelor, Kildemand, Schlein, Sedgeman, Fricke, Holder, Berge, Pickering, Allen, Lindback, Zagar, Kemp, Lidsey, Tungate, Nillson, Lahti, Pawlicki, C Cook, Etheridge, Mountain and Nicki Pedersen. (I may have missed a few) If you throw enough darts you’ll hit the bullseye matey. Oh and I agree, you’ll likely find out Thursday.

  9. On the flip side, turn up with the right mindset to race and not throw a hissy fit and get shown by your little brother how to ride your home track and your employer may show you a little more respect

  11. Don't know why Flappy is taking some stick on this thread. He's communicated with fellow fans more than the club itself this winter, Lets face it the club haven't even been communicating with riders let alone fans this winter either (Holder), The only true communication from club to fans this winter has been constant reminders about season tickets being available every week.

  14. Why protects clubs/management who treat riders so unprofessionally themselves tho?? If they’re not exposed and held to account by the riders who’s going to? If no one does they’ll carry on just taking michael

  16. Last 24 hours. Holder taking revenge on Instagram by spoiling the race suits. Riders taking the p155 out of us on Instagram about how close they were to being in. Polish press reporting on how unprofessional we've been over the Holder situation. Social media backlash on all platforms (Buster needs to explain his version of events just to take the heat off of the club) Frustrated fan base that's reached boiling point.

  17. My concern going forward is it’s made the club look bad regardless, what effects will this have with signing riders in the long term and immediate future… Regardless of the fact we don’t know the full full story it’s painted a sorry picture on Peterborough speedways behalf. It needs addressing quick. Could seriously jeopardize the future with riders thinking why would I bother going there? If MT takes over then will he carry the can for something that a lot of people are saying is Busters fault…

  22. I read the article in the SS, and Jim Lawrence said they had investigated every way to make it possible for Nora 92 meetings to take place on SCB licensed tracks, one could also turn it around and say they had investigated all ways to stop Nora 92 meetings taking place on SCB licensed tracks, imo the only way that they could find to hinder Nora 92 meetings taking place on SCB tracks was by inventing the red herring of insurance being invalid and under that guise have basically told Kent and Plymouth make your choice SCB or Nora 92 but not both, why choose when their is insurance in place for both organisations?, oh I forgot it's the BSPL dressed up as the SCB trying to dictate again what riders/clubs can and cannot do.

  25. It’s been messy all winter tbh. If it wasn’t for fans like Flappy and Gasser putting out info then nobody would’ve had a clue all winter. Busters been selfish by only taking his feelings into consideration as I don’t think Worrall would’ve been in either. Holders spoiled the race suit announcement, riders and fans have been left frustrated all winter. Badly handled all winter and we’re lucky that Nicki P is going save the day which will make a large portion of the fan base turn a blind eye to everything

  26. Batchelor will be forced into retirement soon if he keeps on burning bridges. Belle Vue won't sign him after he turned them over last season which led to them signing Allen & Etheridge in the 1-5. Ipswich have got shot of him after 1 year which speaks volumes. Buster won't sign him again. Can't ride Sheffield for toffee and the fans booed him every week. CVS doesn't like to make drastic changes at Wolves and he'll always retain as many riders as he can from the previous season / seasons. Holder has burnt his bridges with the club after the race suit reveal imo, Still think Tungate ends up at Peterborough at some point next season if Tomalin completes a takeover.

  31. Riders rarely sign a contract it’s pretty much verbal agreements until the start of the season when they get signed and are in the country. And yes I know that’s pretty crap.

  32. I agree as regards the demise of "World of Sport" but the newspaper "scandal" was hyped up in my opinion....been going on for years within speedway as any fan knowing their history would have been aware of. It always surprised me when speedway fans held up their hands up in disgust at the "revelations"...all Simmo and Wiggy were gulity of was naivety and openly discussing the facts with complete strangers. I did put the question to Martin Rogers some years back in "Backtrack" and his views were interesting to say the least. I recall football back in the sixties (and other sports since) when there was match fixing going on and those involved were either imprisoned or banned for life ever playing again at professional level but it didn't effect the status that football held within the media and fan base to any great degree.

  33. Jim Lawrence must take us for a pack of fools. The SCB doing everything they can to ensure that an alternative league can run meetings ? That is about as sincere and truthful as saying that if Plymouth and Kent do choose NORA they will part 'as friends'.

  34. Is it early finish Monday down at RetardsRus
    1 point
  35. Yes, many a happy Saturday afternoon were spent watching ITV's World of Sport. Personally I think the demise of the show - that had made many riders of the time household names - it also had a massive detrimental effect on the sport itself, as Speedway not only disappeared from our TV screens (for a number of years) it also disappeared off the radar of many people's minds, this coupled with the damaging News of the World scandal a period the sport has never recovered.

  36. God what is going with Peterborough. There was a little bit of excitement in 2023 for them but just sounds like a complete mess right now to me. I don't have any ITK's or gossip to tell so I'm just looking from a speedway fans point of view. That Instagram post is huge from holder . Think of how many Aussies ride here. Lots isn't it? All it takes is one rider like holder to tell his Aussies friends what a shambles Peterborough are. Tungate and Batch clearly aren't favourites either, yes only two riders but Ben cook maybe thinking have I made the right choice? A few new up and coming Aussies maybe ask a few of his pals and say where to ride next....are they going to say the panthers ? Doubt it now. God I hope I'm wrong and genuinely hope that Peterborough are around for many decades to come and have a fantastic team for there great support. Again, I don't have a scooby doo what has happened. I just want to see them at the tapes and have some sustainability along with the rest of British speedway. It's non league stuff right now.

  39. Yeah, in his Peterborough post it said 'Poole, Dorset' and this morning it he has said he is at Stansted. Maybe going out to Poland, where he knows where he stands!

  40. It isn’t, which is why I said in a previous post that Chapman/Peterborough end up looking just as bad, if not worse - meaning there isn’t really a winner in all of this 5 month drawn out affair.

  42. Pretty straightforward to me......Fricke had a season ending injury, the rulebook wasn't clear (surprise surprise) on whether BV could replace him. They and the BSPL disagreed so a lawyer sorted it out and permitted BV to sign a replacement with a lower average. Who was only required because Fricke got injured in the first place. Far more satisfactory than guests or R/R which are two of the worst things about British Speedway.

  47. Buster's right to drop this guy. This is exactly the type of guy you'd have had & would have put your club in the s#!t mid-season. Total 'Big Time Charlie'. What a be!!end

  48. Excellent lunch at the King's Oak today to celebrate the 95th anniversary of speedway in this country. I found myself sitting between Bert Harkins and Jim McMillan with Len Silver on the same table. Len, who is 91, was in great form with plenty of stories and anecdotes. The after-dinner speaker, who gave an illustrated history of High Beech, was good too!

  49. I am not absolutely certain of this but I believe the SCB has a monopoly on 'speedway' events in this country. Its why the Isle of Wight termed their meetings for the last couple of seasons as 'dirt track'. The wording could therefore be important if not decisive. What you have quoted - I haven't seen the article - sounds very much like a restraint of trade which is, based upon case law, illegal. It won't be the first time that the SCB has tried to enforce something that they know won't stand up and from which they will back away from at the first sign of litigation (the attempt to bar Scott Nicholls riding Championship springs to mind). What they are doing, in no uncertain terms, is blackmail. Its a high stakes game, however, because the potential loss of 2 more tracks (reducing the number of stand alones to just 17) would be disastrous and they well know it. The statement 'part as friends' is so absolutely insincere and false the mind boggles, but then that sums the SCB up. (Apologies for the thread nap).
