According to the SS this week, Eddie Kennett is still a possibility!! He was at the Eastbourne social last weekend with Kyle Newman and confirmed he has not retired and is 'just waiting for the phone to ring'!!! (Stands back and awaits further comment....)2 points

as long as a rider of decent level on the points available is signed before the first meeting theres no panic i can remember a 2 or 3 rider shootout for last position 1 year at p&p day1 point

In February 1961 Wimbledon was mooted as the most likely venue for the final of the new competition. Harringay then began to be talked about as a better choice for two reasons, firstly that it was neutral and secondly that it could accommodate a much larger crowd than Plough Lane. The decision to stage the meeting at Harringay was announced at the end of the first week in March. It was considered unlikely that a sufficiently large crowd would be attracted to Wembley to make hosting the final there a viable proposition.1 point

I saw both the qualifying round at New Cross and the final at Harringay. I have to say I am not sure why Harringay was chosen. Harringay had closed in 1954, so it was a bit of curious choice. The only other meeting held there that year was the Provincial League Riders' Championship final. And they were the last two meetings ever held at Harringay. The qualifying round at New Cross did give us the chance to seeing foreign riders we might not otherwise have seen. I remember seeing the Finnish rider, Timo Laine, for example.1 point

Hi DorsetPirate, I have been several times to the Gorzow GP, and find that flights to Berlin Brandenburg are good to use. From there, it's easy to rent a car and drive the 2 hours or so over to Gorzow. Alternative airports to fly into that are also easy to get to Gorzow from are Poznan (2 hours) and Szczecin (1hour 25mins). Tickets have been available for weeks directly from the Gorzow website here: https://bilety.stalgorzow.pl/ You'll need to register and then go ahead and pay for them and print them off. I bought several a few weeks ago at 229PLN (about £45). Hotels in Gorzow are VERY difficult to get now, most will be booked up already and any that are still there will be expensive. My preferred option is to search for somewhere close by and get a room for the weekend at a vastly reduced rate. This year, I have booked rooms at a small inn about 25 minutes away that has a bar and looks simple but perfectly comfortable for around £15 per person per night! If you'd like any more specifics, please send me a PM and I'll talk to you directly about it.1 point

It is little wonder that speedway is in the state it is when so many just bang on about fractions of points. Averages are for team managers and promoters to worry about.1 point

Seen it said a few times now: Mick knows how to play the game (you'll have to put your own interpretation on that as I'll say no more!)1 point

But he was powerless to stop the horse from bolting. They just ain’t having Speedway at the Showground and he was told that. He knew he was pi$$ing in the wind and wasn’t prepared to chase unicorns. The consortium have now found that out for themselves. The slanderous accusations on here over the past 6 months from the likes of TTT and the sheep that followed, accusing Chapman of taking “brown envelopes” to ensure the closing of Peterborough speedway have been absolutely staggering.1 point

Everyone is of course entitled to their opinion, but predicting Ipswich to finish second bottom is a bit of a bonkers take. In the words of Les Dennis, if Ipswich finish second bottom I’ll give you the money meself1 point

Thanks Beirao, I have great memories of Willie from both the early BL days and the PL daysWhile the top heat leaders were George Hunter and Doug Templeton and sometimes Wayne Briggs, Willie was a solid sontributor and all round good guy.1 point

May be its an age thing... but my preference is value for money! Give me close racing over meaningless silverware any day of the week!1 point

We've had this debate before? Winning isn't essential for me.... I'd rather lose 44-46 and see close/exciting racing, than win by 20 points or more....(with races being won FTG)1 point

I didn't realise this until you posted, but even worse than i thought. Nothing revolutionary, as they try to state. 4 riders on track at the same time doing a sprint over 4 laps. Which if i am correct, and my memory not failing me, as it has been a few years since i attended a meeting now, is what used to be called in the old days a heat. The fastest rider wins, just like in the old heats..... Trying to make a silk purse out of a pigs ear here1 point

Had a brief look at the sparse NDL fixtures for 2024 and was disappointed to see there is a fixture scheduled for the 11th October! Obviously there are likely to be rain offs etc but just two fixtures currently in September and the rest knocked out by the end of August makes sense. I can understand why any side would want to delay hosting Edinburgh for a s long as possible but October feels extreme...0 points
