No need to go that far back - just return to 1965 For Elite League read National League For Premier League read Provincial League Out of this came British League, filled with riders based in the UK, dedicated to their teams in the UK, once "Rider Control" had done its job, riding self-maintained cost-effective machinery Then we had enough meetings, priced economically, for regular attendees to enjoy the BL, regional leagues, regional individual competition . . . then along came internationals versus other nations And we had fan affiliation with riders who, in the main, stayed with their clubs - not journeymen

Kings Lynn, co-promoted by the chairman of the BSPA management committee, still showing it as on, and on tv! What hope is there for British speedway? How about inviting Sandhu to set up an alternative organisation to run the sport, based at the National Stadium, Brandon? Call it dirt-track racing - and get tracks to put some dirt on
-
YOU must be a budding journalist, like me and Philippe! Lambert doesn't seem to have pushed on like was expected - is that so?
-
DOES that include Robert Lambert, the great white hope?!?!

What is happening on Friday then, Philiprising? Sorry. WHAT is happening on Friday then?

Coventry V Poole Es Second Leg 18/03/2016
Midland Red replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
You mean he is applying the laws of economics?!!! -
Posted Today, 08:41 PM A meeting of this size should not have been scheduled until the track had been down for at least one month, and had been ridden on regularly to ensure it's suitability for racing (not just riding) - together with as much of the surrounding facilities completed as possible BSPA and Belle Vue have cost 6,000 fans a mountain of time, effort and money, and done the sport probably the biggest disservice in this country since Olsen created his circus Can the association and its members bugger off and let someone else take over, someone with organisational skills, foresight and common sense? While we're at it, how can a meeting run with one ambulance? Common sense says that, if that vehicle is needed to be used, the lack of a second will mean the meeting cannot continue (ref Somerset last night). Doh! (Also posted on meeting thread!)

Coventry's New Stadium
Midland Red replied to Humphrey Appleby's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Doubt it! It's bounded by roads on two sides, and Morrisons and Warwickshire Shopping Centre on the other two. Nearest would be the opposite side of the A46, which is Broad Street RFC ground -
FROM today's Oxford Mail - http://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/14292087.Campaigners_use_car_bumper_stickers_in_bid_to_bring_greyhound_racing_back_to_Oxford_Stadium/ (Does that look journalistic of me, starting off with a word in capital letters?!)
-
It's an affectation which he could easily overcome if he really wanted to - it's a habit, nothing more, nothing less, which he hangs onto so that his comments appear to be journalistic
-
Surely it could only be classed as dirty if he HAD used his mirrors first!!
-
That's discounting Tom Farndon, Peter Craven, Nigel Boocock, Peter Collins . . . .???
-
Who said nothing's been done until now? Plenty has gone on behind the scenes, as shown by this latest news release
-
http://www.covgreyhounds.co.uk - ceased after Jan 16th meeting

40,000???? When was that then?

Kenny Carter, Question Confused
Midland Red replied to Lestrade1983's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
No young lad should be put through what Kenny had to endure in his formative years (the word formative is important in this case) Not condoning what finally occurred on 21 May 1986, but when the mind is not in 100% order, unspeakable deeds can happen He was pure class on a bike, at a time when there were plenty of highly-rated riders around, and when the power of the machinery and the funds to support the riders were a million miles away from what we see now RIP Kenny and Pamela -
Thought it was dated 14 Dec???

Did you miss this one, then? https://www.facebook.com/LeicesterLionsSpeedway/photos/a.340251566016627.73793.144722912236161/1014559918585785/?type=3 I'm not "on Facebook" but I easily found this on the Lions website

Not watched the BBC programme in years, but I seem to recall that they took time out to remember those who had passed away during the last 12 months Assuming they still do so, no doubt they will have omitted to note the passing of a former England no.1 and team captain (the one in blue leathers)

Parry's International Coaches
Midland Red replied to steve roberts's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I first met Dave Parry in 1967 when I was commuting between Coventry and Liverpool Lime Street and he was a BR steward One Thursday he served me with coffee whilst I was reading the new edition of Speedway Star, which he saw and then introduced himself to me I helped him out in the pits after he fell at Blackbird Road while second-halfing and did his collar-bone Good man who has done well for himself - well done Dave -
Has already been reported in the 'Years Gone By' section
