  1. The best riders at Brough are sideways before they enter the bend. If you point your front wheel at the centre green and give it plenty you will get around fine. If you almost two wheel into the bends at a shallow angle expecting a longtrack shape and have the front wheel pointing at the fence and then put the throttle on hard, carnage ensues. This is why young riders (like Kyle Newman who was unfortunately carted off by someone else last night) come to Newcastle to learn to become better all round riders. It's a track you have to think about. Some riders (and a lot of them fall off every season at Brough) never seem to learn. It IS a technical track. Is it the best track around? - no. Is it the most exciting to spectate at? - no Is it dangerous? - no Has it been made more difficult to ride by laydown bikes and useless silencers? - yes, and more so than tracks where the throttle is pinned open all the way round.
  2. Newcastle ended that season with a combined average of 54.13 and that was with a #7 averaging 1.71 The top 6 scored 19 full maximums and 16 paid maximums between them. Cookie is good but he's not Joe Owen
  3. Newcastle 82 would score 60 at home against the current Edinburgh team.
  4. Someone needs to tell some of these riders that you have to turn left at Newcastle rather than lean slightly with the throttle full on. They are all brave lads but some of them are also a bit stupid.
  5. "I remember when there were 100,00 fans every week at the Felton training track and there were 22 passes and team riding in every race"
  6. Now you're wearing rose tinted specs regarding your memory!!
  7. Never seen a picture but it was on one of the crash compilation dvd's. It was when Lakeside were in the PL.
  8. Stuart Robson and David Ruud came a right purler on the 4th bend at Newcastle a few years ago. Robbo and bike ended up on the dog track and Ruud's bike took off and went above the lights (a good 10ft). Easily the most spectacular crash I've ever seen. Robbo was OK and I think Ruud got away with a broken thumb.
  9. You do about 'the olden days' when everything was perfect
  10. Good news. He was the outstanding Scorpion on a bad night for the team.
  11. I think Lindgren needs his confidence boosting rather than an opposition rider taking a guest booking. Nothing against young Fox, he rode well and I would have him as a Diamond next season quite happily, but this season, we're going to need Lindgren firing on all cylinders if we are to make the playoffs and cup final, both of which are still within reach. If the way Ludo needs to regain confidence is by taking the chequered flag then be happy he's back in the form where he can. Strangely entertaining meeting for a 67-22 scoreline. Plenty of passing. Expecting Montie on shortly to tell us how bad the track was.
  12. Hence I stated "reported" rather than as fact.
  13. Reported as broken scaphoid. A real shame, he was riding well.
  14. Southern clubs didn't like it. Distances too large to justify it as it didn't bring any extra bodies in. The Edinburgh (Friday), Berwick (Saturday), Glasgow (Sunday), Newcastle (Monday) weekends were legendary. Bring them back. Maybe have a Northern 4TT with the final at Worky so they can be a neutral venue but join the fun
  15. A routine win for the Diamonds who would have scored 60 but for Lindgren killing his bike and a simple fall for King. Stead as good as I've seen him at Brough, Lanham as bad as I've seen him. He's normally good for double figures here. Had a group of 4 adults and 2 kids stood behind us who had obviously come along on the Groupon deal and had not been to the speedway before. They were going wild for the after race wheelies and were disappointed if a race winner tootled around just waving (Danny King). The hardcore fans sometimes forget the entertainment is more than just the racing.
  16. Yes although my board name is an accurate description of my size, you are unlikely to see me on a speedway bike!
  17. Rubbish idea. I will happily pay money to watch Nicki Pedersen. I wouldn't watch Davey Watt race in my back garden for free
  18. Hard to believe how he has come back from very, very serious injuries. Missed over a full year of his career and has umpteen other broken limbs. They are a special breed speedway riders (or stupid)
