This weeks Speedway Star dec 23rd
a4poster replied to marko's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Me neither! Sadly, though it rarely arrives on a Thursday these days - Friday seems to be the norm! -
After reading Tony Mole's interview in this weeks Speedway Star and in view of his work in reviving and saving Teams over the years, wouldn't it be a great shame if that knowledge was lost to the sport. In an ideal world (now that he is free from any Club ties) he would make a great Chairman of the BSPA but would it be beyond the realms of possibility to create a role within? Perhaps assisting prospective Promotors and new tracks with potential pitfalls they face when negotiating with planning applications etc. Just an idea, thats all - but even if he was used in some consultancy role it surely would be beneficial to the future of the Sport in the UK.

The presenters of old often worked in the local media and had learnt there trade where as some of the newer generation are usually the guys who are first up at the local karaoke! -
Tactical Substitutes Question?
a4poster replied to a4poster's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I have just been reading the Speedway Star and on page 4 the article "Why we ditched double". If it can only be used once shouldn't it have said, "..will be able to deploy a tactical substitute between Heats 5 and Heats 14? -
Tactical Substitutes Question?
a4poster replied to a4poster's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
So in theory if you can only use the TS once it is is worse than double-points and potentially have a far less impact on a meeting what we previously had. I think the idea of double points was fine but the implemention was poor - "using the joker card" demeaned the sport a great deal and to the broader non-speedway going public only enhanced there view of the sport. On the other side of the coin how often has an 8-1 rejuvenated a meeting? Why not allow the Team Manager to use it as often as they like (maximum 1TS ride per rider) providing there side is x number of points down between heats 5 - 14 with the exception of the reserve races - reserves would still have to take a minimum of 3 rides - thus making them really earn there corn. -
Looking at the statement issued by the BSPA it states: My question amounts to the the number of TS rides that can be used during a meeting? Is it limited to one or as many providing the deficit is six or more as many as the TM feels necessary? Thanks.

I have just watched Nigel Pearsons video regarding the recent AGM. How amateurish it shows the sport with what looks like it is shot in a Pub with another sport sport playing in the background. PS, I am not anti-Pearson in anyway - I maybe in the minority on here but enjoy his commentary and think overall he does a good job for the sport.

Thanks for the replies, even the tongue in cheek ones!

Hi, can anyone give me a rough idea how much a riders fuel cost per meeting? Enquiring with a view of possible sponsorship. Thanks.

On the Devon Live website they are carrying a story regarding a new Stadium? For people who don't know Torquay United's current ground sits in a high density residential area that you would imagine is worth a considerable sum of money. Read the story and some familier names connected with Speedway and new Stadia rear there head? What do you think?

Ok thanks for the advice but I was originally talking about the Bob Kilby book. I will bear it in mind though.

Yes, ordered mine yesterday - looks good!

Going off on a slight tangent from this topic, do you think the collapse of the sports market could be that many "Stars" bring out books after gaining five minutes of stardom instead of sitting down at the end of the career to write there memoirs?
-
Thanks for the reply. I have already purchased the above titles and as you said they are very good. Both provoke some great memories of times gone by.

With Cardiff looming on the horizon are there going to be any new Speedway books due to be published?

No disrespect to Paul Hurry (who has been a terrific servant to the sport) but I thought the creation of the National League was for younger riders to develop and hone their skills which would then enable them to progress their careers through the other leagues.

Speedway And Disabled Admission.
a4poster replied to a4poster's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I am not necessarily advocating the Carer goes free as I understand the financial state of British Speedway but I do feel a small reduction in admittance would be justified and appreciated. My Son has an acquired brain injury so outwardly there is no sign of any disability, a brief communication with him you would think he is fine. It is only spending time with him you will realise the problems he has. -
Having visited Poole yesterday I would like to know from other Supporters the policy on admission for Disabled persons. Although unlike Football (and most other major sports) where providing proof and in receipt of a certain level of DLA you can take a person as your Carer for free. Obviously, I understand the financial state of Speedway and the ageing demographic that this could be financial suicide but I know from experience that some tracks providing you can show adequate proof they will allow that person in for the same price as a Senior Citizen (this I understand correct as a family member for many years oversaw the gate income/expenditure on race nights at a local Southern based team). I am just interested to hear what the situation is around the Country from other tracks. Note, I am not advocating a Carer is allowed in free but I feel a slight reduction in admission is appropriate. Also, as an aside to this it may be worth Promotors informing Gate staff/operators that not all disabilities are visible.

If this is correct and i hope it isn't i for one will be cancelling my Sky subscription for June, July & August as apart from Speedway I have no interest in the other Summer sports. We have just worked it out and would save us approx. £240. Just keep BT Sport for the Grand Prixs and a complete switch to them could be tempting provided the right package is available.

Has this been confirmed anywhere?

Hi, are Somerset hosting the Premier League pairs this year prior to the GP at Cardiff?

Hi, it has been quite a while since I was fully up to speed on the rulebook and would like help on the following. If a team has Rider Replacement and then name a number 8, when and who can he takes his rides? Is it purely to replace the R/R and what is the minimum rides he would get? Thanks in advance.

Hi, can I ask the following regarding the rules: If a rider touches the tapes the Team Manager can either bring in the reserve or send the original rider back of 15 meters. Now, if the 15 meter option is chosen and the rider goes before the green light would the re-run then be held with just 3 riders only? Or, if the Manager brings in a reserve and he breaks the tapes can he be replaced by the other reserve or would this be with 3 riders only or would the reserve be allowed to go off 15 metres? And finally in theory could more than one rider go off 15 metres? Thanks.
