Sgp Challenge Final
BUDGIE replied to ladyluck's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
The problem that BSI face is that they actually promote and risk their own money at Cardiff (and Vojens), and therefore if they can influence the attendance upwards at those meetings, not unnaturally, they will, hence we got Bomber and Tai nominated last year. I think that BSI will be praying that they only have to nominate 1 Brit this year as the other one qualifies, but for me their actions seem to indicate that if they control it there will always be 2 Brits in the SGP. If they are faced with having to nominate Emil, Nicki P, Jonsson, Lindgren etc it will be hard on any of them if they lose out because of BSIs commercial interests, but that may happen for 2011, as if no Brits qualify I beleive that only 2 other places would be available and surely they would go to Emil and Nicki P, assuming they both need to be nominated! -

BUDGIE replied to a topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
It all depends on the definition of 'impression' We he win it , NO Will he win a GP, NO Will he finish in the top 3 overall, NO Will he qualify for next year via his GP finishing position, HIGHLY UNLIKELY Will he score some points , YES Will he finish last, MAY DO Does he deserve his place, YOU BET HE DOES, HE QUALIFIED! -

2010 Grand Prix wildcards
BUDGIE replied to gaztrotter's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Absolutely agree that we are entitled to discuss it, and it is very interesting, however some people continue to make suggestions that would cost the organisers loads of money and seem unable to accept that money is an issue. It is a very real issue, and unfortunately we are stuck with it. Me, I'd like to see 15 English riders in the SGP, but I accept that we are a little short of class to achieve that, and anyone who won from that sort of field wouldnt be a worthy world champion. -

The thought that they represent GB is just silly. They are English and they represent England -

BUDGIE replied to gaztrotter's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Because its not particularly about young riders , that is a secondary concern, its about commercial appeal and money. Therefore it has been decided that the SGP series needs 2 Brits, and forgive me if I am wrong but I presume that Przemysław Pawlicki doesnt meet the British criteria. -

Aaaahhhhhhhhh some sense at last. The 'decision' taken that caused all this was that there would be 2 Brits in the SGP, and as I have said previously once that happened you had to chose the 2 best ones, Harris is British Champ and got the furthest in the quailfiers, then we were down to Woffinden, Richardson, and well, no-one else really. I think that the 2 Brits selected are the correct 2 Brits. Also on another but related point, can anyone seriously beleive that any rider not in SGP 2010 could crack the Top 6? Thought not!. -

BUDGIE replied to gaztrotter's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
The powers that be decided that there should be 2 Brits in the series, probably for commercial reasons, but the 2 that are in it are the correct 2 to be chosen in my opinion. You can argue for the whole closed season if you want but its the original decision that should be called into question not the chosing of Harris and Woffinden. Just as a point are there any former GP winners that ar'n't in the 2010 GP series? -
On the other hand you have no money at risk, so whilst on a high level everyone would agree that commercial reasons should not have a say, this is real life, and therefore they will.

Which Brit Should Get A Wild Card?

Why would that be anti English when its true? -
Which Brit Should Get A Wild Card?
BUDGIE replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
So then to sum up, in the sprirt of the subject, if its one nomination, the general thought seems to be it should be Harris, and if its 2 nominations it should be Harris and Woffinden, I've got to say that I would have to agree with that. -

Thats how they select F1 drivers to ensure a worldwide appeal in the most important markets. Expect a Chinese and/or an Indian driver soon. This form of selection actually increases audiences, something that I bet IMG would love to be able to achive. -

Being devils advocate for a second here why is it ridiculous? The most successful motorsport of all doesnt have a qualifying system and is all down to nationalities and audiences or am I missing something? (By the way this doesnt mean that I agree with the F1 system) -

Which Brit Should Get A Wild Card?
BUDGIE replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Stepping back a little from who's favourite is in or not in, it seems that the 'big' nations being Denmark, Sweden, Poland, and England are guaranteed 2 places, nominations may be used to ensure this. This is probably for commercial reasons as those countries have staged 7 of the 11 SGPs this season and the venues need to be filled. If we take the above as true then the question that remains is who should be the other British competitor after Harris, (because he will finish highest of the Brits in this years SGP, is next in line from qualification, and is the British Champion) in my opinion there is no point going over old ground and selecting a rider who will not really improve on his last efforts, so what we are looking at is giving someone experience so that perhaps we as a nation dont need to keep relying on selections and nominations. That being so the choice is down to Bridger, Woffinden or Kennett, all of whom would bring new young blood into the series. My preference out of that lot would be Woffinden. In reality if any of these 3 are nominated there will be 'noise' from people who feel that they have missed out, but ask yourself this question, when the 'noise' starts, "Could this rider have made the Top 6 in 2010?", the answer I beleive will be no. -

As has been proved of late the also rans dont matter, in the great scheme of things the Top 3 in anyone year will be all that anyone looks at in the future, as indeed we do now. Dont understand your point about Scott Nicholls because it is obvious that he wouldnt be on the rostrum, more so because he has said he doesnt want to be involved. The point is the bottom 6 dont matter a flyin' fig, might as well put me in there, and all the debate about who should be in and who shouldnt, is irrelevant. From a personal point of view I would like to see 13 Englishmsn, JC, NP and Emil. Wouldnt be very good to watch though would it! -

BUDGIE replied to manchesterpaul's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
...but in someones reckoning they are the best 15 (16) in the world because of the fact that they are in the SGP. It opens up all sorts of questions about who are the best 15 riders in the world, who decides the basis for that?, is it at the Old Hyde Road on a Saturday, Finn Jensen might have a chance, or is it at Wolves on a Monday, where for example, Finn Jensen may not have much of a chance, or is it the people who finished high in the SGP last year or is it nominations, or is it a combination of finishing high in the previous years SGP, qualifying and a few nominations. By the way no offence to Finn Jensen is intended, because he was better at Hyde Road that Monmore Green! In the end does anyone really beleive that a rider who is not in the SGP this year could have been on the rostrum, because I dont, and I'd go further and say that that will also be true next year, so we can hardly say that the SGP produces a false result. The people being argued over are peripheral to the result next year. -

QUOTE (Robbie B @ Sep 27 2009, 10:02 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Whether people like the fact that Magnus Zetterstrom will be a GP rider or not next season. It must be pointed out he is there by right, after qualifying from a very tough meeting and other qualifying rounds. I quite agree with this QUOTE (Robbie B @ Sep 27 2009, 10:02 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Some of the riders that you Budgie didn't even make it to the GP challenge final, so why should they be put in front of Magnus Zetterstrom who won the GP challenge event, it doesn’t make sense. He may be older then the riders you mention, but he qualified and they didn't. Sorry but is this bit just doesnt make sense. I have never mentioned any riders that ought to be there, the riders that ought to be there are the ones who qualify!! Any chance you could put the reply into some sort of English? -

Dont understand why it would be 'honourable', in fact quite the opposite, and cant beleive it would happen after he has quailfied by right along quite a long path, surely the people who have witnessed it and paid to see him qualify deserve to see him go through?. Dont think so, they would just promote from the challenge, therefore Lindgren, followed by Harris. -
