I would hope that if he doesn't get a place next year that he will be first reserve having only lost out in a run off in the qualifier for an automatic place. He has struggled all year, finally finds his form and gets injured in a race that should never have taken place. The track work should have been done before the meeting started.

I don't disagree with your point, people often said to me as long ago as the 50's that it was first from the gate that won but the Mauger, Collins comparison is perhaps not the best to prove the point. Arguably, Peter only winning one title was more down to his badly broken leg in 1977, the sugar in his tank at the British Final in 1978, which resulted in him not qualifying for the final that year and his serious arm injury in the KO Cup final in 1980, from which he never fully recovered and was never quite as good. Perhaps it's just me but there has seemed to be more than the usual number of boring GP's this year but the overall standard is better than the one off finals. However, just imagine the racing we would get now if we had those finals with everything depending on winning one meeting.

King's Lynn v Belle Vue; Play-Off. semi final 2nd leg
Aces51 replied to g13webb's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I take nothing away from Kings Lynn, they were the better team and the win was well deserved but last night was basically about gating. The fact that Garcia and Berge won races with ease when making good starts but floundered at the back when they didn't tells the story. I expected the track to be grippy to give the home side an advantage, I understand why it's done but the poor racing was the inevitable consequence. If that's what some promoters think is the best way to showcase the sport on its biggest occasions then they can hardly complain about the continuing decline in crowd numbers. It will benefit King's Lynn in the short term by being in the final but not in the long term. Only the die hards will turn up week after week to watch gate and go races. Make it slicker, the racing will improve and home riders will quickly develop a home advantage as they learn the racing lines. Unfortunately, the racing at Poole wasn't much better last night. It was a much more entertaining meeting because of the closeness of the overall scores and the tremendous ride by Chris Harris in heat 15 and the gaps between riders wasn't as great as it was at King's Lynn but just like King's Lynn, nearly all of the races were determined by the back straight. -

Congratulations and well done to King's Lynn. Shame about the racing, no real excitement after the back straight on the first lap but that's the problem with modern bikes and a grippy track. Before the first legs of the semi final I forecast a KL, Somerset final. We still don't know who the other finalist will be but whoever it is I would like to see King's Lynn win after finishing top of the league. -
As far as not having made it as a PL rider, which is what I said, not made it as a top PL rider or an international rider, are you seriously saying that a rider with his average of 7.26, not gained just at the NSS, his away average is 6.19, which puts him as having the 19th best away average in the league, has not made it as a PL rider. His home and away averages are better than Try Proctor's but I would say he has made it as a PL rider. His home and away averages are also about the same as Rohan Tungate's. Has he not made it as aPL rider? If you want to argue that he has not yet made it as a top rider in the PL you have an argument but to say he has not made it as a PL rider is ridiculous. You are right to say we need to see how he comes back from injury. Dan is young, he's only been riding for 3 years, he is level headed and I think has the strength of character to come back and carry on where he left off. But that has nothing to do with this discussion, which is about whether he has made it as a rider PL, not what he will be like coming back next year after his injuries.
-
My post was in reply to a post which referred to Dan and others and said, "It very much remains to be seen if any of these names progress on to become more than 2nd Division level talent" My comment refers to the fact that Dan has made it in the sense that he has already progressed beyond the level to be more than 2nd Division talent. You can't argue with that when he has a PL average would make him a second or third heat leader in most teams and a number one at Poole. Out of interest his Polish league 1 average would place him third, above Lambert who is 7th.
-
Bewley has already made it in the PL. His actual 2018 average is 7.26 which places him in 13th position in the overall table of 2018 PL averages.

King's Lynn v Belle Vue; Play-Off. semi final 2nd leg
Aces51 replied to g13webb's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I could reassure you and tell you it's just play off day nerves. I could say that even ignoring the reserve scores we only just beat you at the NSS so you will do much better at home, that in our weakened state we are unlikely to get close in the second leg, that Cook is our best rider at KL and that with Fricke now ineligible to take a r/r we are not going to get close to his likely contribution. But I won't, be afraid, your hopes and dreams could all crumble to dust before your eyes. The Aces are coming, they have nothing to lose and just like your childhood bogeyman, they are going to get you. -

It could be a mental health issue but so far as I know, which isn't a lot, there has not been a medical certificate. In that circumstance it would be classed as withholding his services. Mark didn't contact Belle Vue but Mark Lemon spoke to him the day after Ipswich's press release and he confirmed what Ipswich had said. I doubt he could now ride tomorrow anyway because withholding your services results in an automatic ban. Thank you to both you and Badge for the information on Garcia, I hope you're right and that he does a decent job for us. -

He was suffering poor form and a lack of confidence, not an injury which prevented him from riding, when he decided to end his season in the UK and return to Germany. It was at that point that he was withholding his services. He rode today in the Czech Golden Helmet but that doesn't affect that he is withholding his services in the UK. I don't know if he could ride on Monday, even if he said he is prepared to return, as I assume he is subject to a suspension. I don't either, I don't know if he has ever ridden in the top league, he hasn't to my knowledge but his Championship average for Ipswich is 4.41. I don't think we can expect too much but you never know, he may surprise us. -

Again, that is irrelevant. Many thought it would benefit Poole and I'm sure that the Poole management were amongst them. On paper he was a better rider. A thief who steals a wallet believing it is going to contain money and credit cards is no less guilty when it turns out to be empty. -

Abusing the rules forces the BSPA/ SCB to then introduce more draconian rules to try to prevent that abuse. The end result in this case has been that riders with truly genuine season ending injuries cannot now be replaced and when that happens it is unfair to those teams and all because some other team finds it difficult to play fair. -
We all know our chances are slim but the point about heat 15 is that, at the moment, you just never know with Worrall. He can and does sometimes pop out of the gate and can be difficult to pass, ask Doyle. At other times, he gets passed easily. The point is we were wrongly denied the chance to find out and no matter what any of us might think nobody can say with certainty that the result would not have been different. Whatever the SCB decide we shall soon find out if a KL lead of less than 8 would have made any difference to the overall result. I doubt it will happen but if we were to lose overall by less than 8 and the original result stands, we would have every reason to feel very aggrieved. It would be like gogglegate all over again.
-
I certainly don't think that there is a need for the SCB to impose any heavy penalty on Allit. He has not helped himself with his tweet after the meeting or his interview in the SS, a show of remorse is usually wise but even so I think that nothing more than a warning, a fine or, a suspended penalty is required. The heat 15 error by the referee is a difficult one to deal with. Nobody knows what the result might have been if Worrall had ridden. If he had I believe that he would have taken gate 2 and Fricke gate 4 and it could have been a completely different race. The race can't now be rerun so the only options seem to be to leave the result as it stands or end the meeting at heat 14. Both teams could rightly argue that either option is unfair.

King's Lynn v Belle Vue; Play-Off. semi final 2nd leg
Aces51 replied to g13webb's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
You seem to have some sort of obsessive vendetta against Belle Vue. Even if you're right and he does ride why would they have to explain anything. They first discovered from Ipswich that Mark Riss had said he was returning to Germany and would not ride again this season. They had contact with him and he confirmed the situation. On that basis he was withholding his services and his UK teams were granted a guest facility. If he does now ride on Sunday that is nothing to do with either Ipswich or Belle Vue and they cannot control whether he rides in a different country. He is still withholding his services in the UK. -
He didn't politely guide him away from the incident, he took hold of him and forced him up against the fence. I wouldn't want to over egg it,, I've seen far worse. We could leave it at he assaulted him if that is more acceptable but any reasonable person witnessing it would describe it as an attack.
-
You've now added "quite forcefully" . It wasn't whether you implied that Allit did nothing wrong, it was that your original comment, which you have now changed, didn't reflect what happened. As for all managers protecting their riders, I didn't see Lemon rushing out just as he didn't during the Cook, Lindgren incident. I don't think anyone has exaggerated it to that level but surely the serious issue here is that an official has taken it upon himself to get involved and instead of calming the situation, decided to join in and physically attack a mechanic. I haven't seen posts asking for the authorities to deal with him severely or otherwise but it happened on live TV so you can hardly expect everyone to ignore it. The time it took is an irrelevance.
-
Somewhat diplomatic saying Allit took the mechanic away to the fence. He attacked him when, if he wanted to calm the situation, he should have been dragging Simon Lambert away. His tweet later that night also indicated a lack of remorse and an understanding of the seriousness of an officiant acting as he did "Great come back and a bit of wwe!! Just backing my boys @ruthlesslambert @typroctor20 @tjracing11 @doniversen @MPTRacing267 @lambo_racing #ErikRiss awesome from our fans @KLSpeedway @KLSSClub see you Monday #halftime"

The crowd numbers started to drop in the 1980's, long before the star riders departed. I am not saying that the drop in quality in more recent years has not had an effect, I can understand that some want to see the best, they were used to seeing the best and so now either pick and choose when to attend or, don't attend at all. However, I don't see it as the most important problem to solve. Get the basics right, rules, credibility, delays, entertainment etc., and make fans feel valued and you then have the opportunity for the sport to develop and grow to a stage where the top riders are again affordable. Good facilities and producing tracks conducive to good racing will also help but again are not the answer on their own. I don't think there is a golden bullet, it's a mix of things that need to be put right but crowds were increasing at Belle Vue prior to being forced to race on Mondays and a return to a sensible race night will help to return to that trend. Many of the people who live in speedway catchment areas but don't know the sport exists locally, won't have a clue about the names of the top stars but find a way to get them to attend and it will be the quality of the speedway experience that will determine whether they attend again.
-
I certainly think we need a bigger top division. However, what I want to see are realistic and sensible plans, to give the sport credibility, to have a simplified rule book that is applied consistently and fairly, to avoid unnecessary delays during meetings, to compile sensible fixture lists that provide regular meetings and avoid cramming in meetings to meet play off deadlines, to make meetings more entertaining by presenting a product that will not just keep the die hard fans happy but make newbies eager to come back, to publicise the sport in ways that will appeal to both the young and to the thousands who have walked away, to allow tracks to run on whatever night attracts their best crowd. Easier said than done but we need radical thinking to present speedway as a dangerous and exciting but professional sport. To attract new fans we need a bit of razzmatazz and some controversy by allowing promoters and riders a degree of latitude to react to the opposition and to decisions made by referees. We know the status quo doesn't work, it has led us to where we are.

King's Lynn v Belle Vue; Play-Off. semi final 2nd leg
Aces51 replied to g13webb's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
With regard to my opinion of the management, have Kings Lynn fans forgotten already the constant moans on here about the way the club and meetings are run? However, that is not the reason for my lack of regard although it does impact on the sport in general when the same promoter is the Chairman of the BSPA. My concern is that under his leadership the sport finds itself in a worse position than when he took over. He even made a few promises on his appointment that were within his gift to achieve. Do we remember that the sport was going to be more open and transparent and that the rule book would be rewritten? Some would say the secrecy is now worse and that the rule book has, if anything, become more complex. He obviously either doesn't have the answers or, if he does, the ability to persuade others to support him to adopt them. He needs to do the honourable thing and resign.
