  1. The reason for the delight being shown at Poole's current poor form is obvious. You reap what you sow. It is unfortunate for those Poole fans who were not loudly proclaiming that finishing top of the league was a forgone conclusion and that they would smash teams on their travels but perfectly understandable that there would be payback when they didn't live up to the hype. For those many genuine and decent Poole fans just keep your heads down and either the team will improve and I think it will or fans of other teams will get tired of taking so much pleasure in your failure. For the idiots and wind up merchants who were telling all and sundry how this team was going to walk so easily over the rest, the current humiliation might teach them a lesson but I doubt it.
  2. Or you could just be straight and say; I said r/r for Howarth would weaken us a lot, Howarth scored 3 and it is highly unlikely that r/r would have scored less and certainly not a lot less, I accept that is impossible. Keep going on about r/r scoring more than Howarth did is totally irrelevant when your point was the team would be weakened a lot, which logically means his replacements scoring less.
  3. It's your conclusions that don't add up. It wasn't a question of doing better than Howarth. You said his absence and using r/r "weakens us a lot". In other words that r/r would score significantly less than Howarth, not more. Are you really suggesting that Schlein, Heeps and Morris would not have scored 3 in Howarth's rides. Indeed to weaken you a lot they would probably have had to fail to score at all.
  4. Great crowd, brilliant racing, track staff worked wonders to keep the dust at bay and Wolverhampton, whilst disappointing, made the gate a sufficient number of times and fought hard to make the Aces work for their points. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. 3 from 4 rides. Schlein, Heeps and Morris would have at least equalled and probably bettered that today so they certainly wouldn't have been weakened much, a lot or massively. In fact not at all.
  5. I agree, Klindt is too inconsistent and more likely to have a poor meeting than a good one. However, I accept that the problem with r/r is that you can be in trouble if another rider has to withdraw from the meeting but we get few falls at the NSS so on balance I would take that chance and use r/r.
  6. I hope he's able to ride. On one of his good night at the NSS Wolves will be weaker without him but not on one of his poor nights. On his last appearance in September, 2017 he scored only 3 from 5 rides. Schlein could equal that in his one r/r ride.
  7. Kyle has been doing well although he has previously had good and bad meetings at the NSS. Presumably, his rides would be taken by Schlein, Heeps and the reserves. Difficult to say whether Wolves are strengthened or weakened if he's not able to ride.
  8. I agree. Our problem tomorrow is that it does weaken us and so Klindt needs to have one of his better days and score at least 8 or 9. Otherwise, we could be in trouble unless Drozdz does exceptionally well at reserve.
  9. Let's hope for better from Klindt than his 6 from 7 rides score for Poole last year when he was riding at reserve. Bewley moving into the 1-5 is deserved and good for his career progression but we shall miss not being able to slot him in for anybody who is underperforming. Hopefully, Drozdz can score some points at reserve at home but he will find it more difficult on our travels until he gets more experience of UK tracks. Overall, we are considerably weaker but if Klindt has one of his better nights we can still win this but it will be close.
  10. So far as I know Belle Vue, as a new promotion, didn't have a vote at the AGM. It will be interesting to see the crowd tomorrow. Generally, we get good crowds on a bank holiday and particularly against Wolves. The weather is going to be good, it starts at noon, so no problems with school the next day for the kids and Belle Vue took over the complete front and back pages of the local paper to advertise the meeting. If the crowd is as good as on previous bank holidays it will be more evidence that the problem is the change of race night.
  11. There is obviously much wrong with the sport but the there is no significant difference between this year and last year so the only explanation for the significant drop in crowd numbers at Belle Vue must be the change in race night. Monday may work for a team like Wolverhampton, who have a long history of racing on that night but it is probably the worst night of the week for the entertainment and leisure industries. That is why many offer incentives to try to attract people in. If you want the best chance of getting a decent slice of the leisure pound you have a far better chance on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. I suspect that it was for those very reasons that the previous promotion changed from Monday, which was forced on them by their landlord and never successful, to Friday. It may be that as the season progresses crowds will improve but I have my doubts. In fact, when the TV coverage starts in a couple of weeks I think that is going to tempt some more fans to stay away especially if the weather is bad.
  12. I'm not sure that the results last year have much relevance. We are still weakened by the absence of Worrall and restricted for guests because of the fixtures on Monday and the mysterious return to rolling averages means that we lose the significant advantage of Bewley riding at reserve. Subject to whoever we get as a guest I still think we can win the home leg but it's not going to be easy.
  13. Starke has now completed his 28 day contract and Drozdz is back with the Aces.
  14. It was a problem that irritated fans when doubling up riders were missing to ride for their other team but that problem has largely been eradicated by the fixed nights. Fans are more concerned about being able to identify with their riders and a lack of continuity is a bigger reason for fans to lose interest than being concerned about doubling up. I think that most Belle Vue fans see Bewley riding for Workington or, Fricke riding in Poland, as something that will help make them better riders but that in no way makes them any less Belle Vue riders.
  15. An entertaining and enjoyable meeting with some very good racing and both teams deserved the league points they gained. Bewley continued his remarkable form, 14 paid 16 from 6 rides, Drozdz looked fast and impressive in his race one win but then had mechanical problems but was still on the pace and Tungate showed he has got over his early season problems. Bjerre had a night to forget but everyone else put in a solid performance. For Somerset, Doyle and Holder were outstanding and Jeppersen was impressive on his NSS debut. Wright, normally good at Belle Vue, had a night to forget. Good to see that a few Rebels fans made the journey to support their team..
  16. I don't think it's anything to do with programme filling but to do with the general lack of atmosphere caused in part by the much smaller crowds than we see in Poland. If a race is particularly exciting fans here are on their feet cheering and fill in their programmes later. A good example was last Monday at the NSS when Bewley cane from the back to beat KK. The fans were on their feet as Bewley came out of bend 4 on the last lap and carried on cheering and clapping as he did his lap of honour.
  17. I don't think you can judge by last Monday alone. It was not the most attractive opposition and rain falling for over an hour in the couple of hours before start time didn't help. I also think 800 would be at the bottom end of the crowd estimates but it was definitely a poor crowd. However, Friday is a much better night both for families and because fans have not already spent whatever money they have spare for leisure activities. Monday meetings will also have to compete against televised meetings when they start in a few weeks time. I think having to race on Monday is going to make it very difficult to match, let alone increase the crowds we had last year.
  18. There may be particular circumstances why that may not be true for some teams and of course it is not an option for some because of their landlords but generally I have no doubt that Friday would be more successful. The entertainment industry has always operated on the basis that Fiday and Saturday are their busiest days and many feel the need to offer incentives to try to attract people during the week and particularly on Mondays. However, to accommodate Friday we would have to use only riders prepared to commit to giving priority to the UK.
  19. I may be wrong but my understanding is not that the FIM arbitrarily told the BSPA the fixed nights that would be given to the UK PL. I understood that the BSPA asked for Monday and Thursday and then at the AGM changed to Wednesday when some CL clubs refused to move from their Thursday race nights. As I have said previously, if that is correct, then it would seem that either, the BSPA asked for and agreed Thursday's without first ensuring the affected CL clubs had unequivocally agreed to change their race night or move up to the PL or, some or all of those CL clubs reneged on an agreement. I am in favour of fixed race nights and I understand the dominance of Poland and the GP's but I am concerned that Monday's may have a detrimental affect on crowd numbers for those teams that have had to change their race night to that day. I can't imagine any commercial entertainment business that doesn't have a long and successful history of choosing to open only on a Monday expecting to attract the same number of customers on a Monday as they would on a Friday or Saturday. The previous Belle Vue promotion were desperate to move away from Monday to Friday for those obvious reasons.
  20. Lasse Bjerre guesting for Steve Worrall and Drozdz back from injury. Despite Wright having done well when he guested for us on Monday I think we should claim all 3 points and send the Rebels home with none.
  21. I don't agree with you about Auty but it's irrelevant. Starke is on a 28 day contact, Drozdz has apparently recovered from his injury and will be able to return when Starke's contract ends. Only Somerset and King's Lynn were not racing yesterday so the choice of guests for Worrall was limited. Mark Lemon was fully aware that Wright would be racing against us next week but despite that thought it was our best option. I think he was right.
  22. Many years ago we used to have riders doing one lap record attempts. I'm not sure if that is intended as part of the hot laps but if not it is another slant on Najjer's leader board suggestion.
  23. Heat 15 from last night now on the Belle Vue Speedway Facebook page.
  24. I think Morris is doing much better in both leagues than most expected. Another Brit making progress can only be a good thing. I hope he has an excellent season.
  25. I thought the rain before the meeting was going to spoil it last night and it took a few races to start to turn over and move out the top dirt. Not one of the best meetings at the NSS but some very good races. KK was the only rider to impress for Rye and they were certainly weakened by the absence of Kennett and Robson. Nicholls and Harris were disappointing. They both had one good race, so showed they had the speed and I hope it was just a bad night. If not, Rye are going to struggle away from home unless changes are made. A solid team performance from all of the Aces, everyone did their job, there were no weak links and it was good to see Tungate back to form and Fricke shepherding Etheridge for a 5-1 after Jye had passed Harris. Dan Bewley, what can you say. You can't compare him to Collins, Morton, Woffinden, Screen or even Lambert because, unlike them, he had no experience of riding speedway from a young age. He had his first competitive race just two years ago and in that time his progress has been exceptional.
