I seem to have touched a raw nerve but do you really need to be quite so offensive in your reply? I have no idea how BV managed to get round the rules and sign Lambert - first (and probably last) team to be allowed to bring in a rider just for the play offs, but well done to them. But don’t kid yourself that he did it for the greater glory of the Aces. It’ll look good on his CV and his bank balance but it’s not exactly a long term relationship. And, as an aside, he only did THREE meetings beating his average by over three points (10.67 as opposed to 7.61). Before you get upset again, please read what it was I was saying: well done to BV for finding a loophole that some will say was the only reason they won the title. Would they have won with the existing 1-6 and r/r or a guest? No one wilL ever know!

I love that. Especially with Robert: “thanks we’re given for their assistance”. It was a bit more than that, wasn’t it? “Thanks for coming in as a ringer on an out-dated average and winning us the league. And more thanks for b***ering off after only three meetings to save us some cash”!

I’m not sure it matters though does it? The situation has been clarified by both sides. Glasgow felt the track conditions were deteriorating and that although it might be rideable it wasn’t raceable. Poole were happy to continue. The referee agreed with Glasgow. Poole were disappointed but not deflated given the scores when the two legs were staged. My opinion, note the word opinion, was that Glasgow were always going to be beaten on aggregate. Running r/r for Ostergaard, losing Hume to injury, having Tom Brennan in the middle of a flat out run of meetings and with Craig Cook being less than at his best, certainly hindered them especially up against a team with an unchanged all season 1-7 and arguably the best team spirit in the league. It therefore follows - opinion again - that Glasgow should have continued the meeting at Ashfield rather than incurring the cost of restaging.

Shame on Sheffield
Wee Eck replied to dontforgetthefueltapsbruv's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
If that’s your points of comparison, Belle Vue is exactly like Sheffield - a multi use stadium not owned by the club. That’s not what it was supposed to be but, after the previous owning company went spectacularly bankrupt with debts approaching 7 figures, any chance of BV being anything other than tenants was lost -
You misquote me for some reason. My reference was to the first year of the new promotion. That’s all that’s relevant. Few new promotions or indeed relaunched tracks do well (think of Newcastle, Birmingham, Rye House, Coventry under Horton, Eastbourne - I’m sure there are others) compared to the recent successes, Oxford, Glasgow and (common thread here) Berwick.

You seem very cross. Regardless of age profile, Poole have consistently run with really good crowds suggesting that they are managing to attract younger people (maybe younger oldies!) year after year. But then this is an Oxford thread so well done to the owners, the promoters, the riders and the supporters. You have done what few achieve by being successful in your first year.

Being positive - you positively can’t get Richie as he’s signed for Plymouth

I’m not sure it’s just “pond life”. How do you turn the fact one of the top riders wouldn’t be riding after all, actually wouldn’t be allowed to ride, into a positive? Cook was advertised in the line up but where and when (other than at the track) was it announced that he wouldn’t be riding? Surely it’s reasonable for supporters to feel cheated, “pond life” or otherwise?

Poole v Redcar KO cup final 2nd leg 12th October

Congratulations to Poole on their comprehensive win. Perhaps unusually, they’ve stayed loyal to their 1-7 all season and it’s shown through in the way the team has performed. It sounded like they were riding with something to spare tonight which will help them next week when the opposition is likely to be much tougher -
Belle Vue v Ipswich Play off semi 2nd leg 3 Oct
Wee Eck replied to Rob B's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Ah. That old myth. Don’t let the truth get in the way of a fevered defence of the indefensible. Hancock first rode for Poole on 5 August 2013 and completed 4 home and 3 away meetings before the play offs. Hardly being signed “just for the play offs” -

Nilsson wasn’t a pick. He qualified by right through the GP challenge.
