World Cup At Coventry
Gemini replied to Gemini's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Me neither, sorry, unless in comparision you are also going to quote the average wages for the years quoted because everything goes up over the years. Strewth I hope not! I think a fairer price would be about £17. It's probably not so bad paying out £22 if you are going alone and a wage earner, but take a partner with you who is not working and £44 is a lot of money to come out of one week's wages. Added to that, if you are a Coventry fan there was also a match on Monday and another on Friday so I don't blame those who are not going. -
World Cup At Coventry

I feel so much better now! As long as it's not Mr Sandhu losing the money I don't care. Serves 'em right for hiking the price up so much and I still think it's too high, no matter how many extra races there are. If it had been Denmark, Poland, Great Britiain and Australia in the final it would be different but this is just a qualifying round and by the looks of it not a very good one either. Still I'll be there with one of the dogs to keep me company. Presuming I can pay on the night as I haven't got a ticket? -
World Cup At Coventry
Gemini replied to Gemini's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Well I think a lot of people are being put off by the high price for what will no doubt be pretty mediocre teams on display - apart from Great Britain of course Trouble is a poor attendance will probably put Mr Sandhu off using Coventry again. -
So who is going to this? I hope a lot of you are because I asked about 20 Bees fans that I know last night and no-one is going. Looks like the attendance could be pretty low if this is anything to go by. The reason is unanimous - they all think it is too expensive at £22. With it being live on Sky as well they have no incentive to put themselves out as they'll be able to watch it at home for nothing. Looks like it will just be me and the dog on the 4th bend.

What?? Not even Brenda? I should think the whole of Cardiff heard her, even with the roof shut. The last time I heard a racket like that was when the foxes were chasing each other up and down our avenue.

British Gp Speedway Dvd
Gemini replied to Dragula's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
The one I've got is only 6 months old, although it's now unplugged. The main one I use is a video/DVD recorder combi so I have the best of both worlds really. Must admit I mainly use the video because I can't be bothered with all the reading/erasing/freezing that goes on with DVD's but I normally transfer the G.P's I've recorded on Sky from video to DVD as they are smaller to store. When I come to play them back over the next few years they'd better work properly or they'll be trouble! -

I think DVD's are a pain in the neck and not all they are cracked up to be. I've got that fed up with them freezing and all the stupid reading and erasing etc. I've gone back to my trusty video. New technology is not always the best. Now where did I put my wind up grammophone. -
Speaking as a Bees fan not a lot I hope.

R.I.P. Len. Well remember him from his time with Leicester Hunters when he always used to wear a green or yellow jersey over his leathers. Great little rider. He used to live in Leicester but I presume if his death was mentioned in a Sheffield paper he must have moved there at some point?

The next home meeting is actually on Monday July 9th against Poole. Here's hoping the rain will finally stop and we'll get to see some racing at Brandon.

I just thought you'd come back from a trip to Spain.

I always thought there was a lower, middle and upper so where was the 4th tier? On the roof? -
I don't think a programme was ever included this time.

Well, I think it was a comma. Could have just been a tiny splash of paint. -

It was later replaced by one saying "Hans Andersen rides rough, boys." or something like that. I think they were British fans. Just reminded me before the G.P. started a couple of Poles came down to the front row of section N4 (middle tier, 1st bend) with a massive Polish flag which they proceeded to tie up, half covering the flag that was already there. Poole Pirates and England. Naturally the owners objected to this and made them take it down. One of the Poles offered a handful of money but this was refused and they disappeared, together with their flag. About ten minutes later they came back and started to undo the English flag, which of course didn't go down very well and they were sent packing to the cheers of all the English fans. Poland 0 - England 1. A bit like the G.P. really. -
This was discussed before the G.P. http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/ind...showtopic=35469 It's a shame you didn't know beforehand about the ban on tins and bottles etc., being taken inside the stadium. It seems only cartons are okay (unless you manage to miss having your bag checked.) Ours were checked but we only had cartons of Ribena. It can't just be about making sure we all buy their food/drink because we had sandwiches, crisps and a chocolate bar each, which the stewards saw in the bags. I agree with you though - it's pretty stupid because they allow other things in like air-horns that could be used as missiles and even set on fire, which a certain rider did several years ago.
-
Nope it's not, but I'll let you off because you probably weren't even born when Chris Julian was riding. Was successful as a grasstrack and speedway rider.
-
WELL DONE CHRIS. Like Mark Loram a universally popular rider so it couldn't have happened to a nicer person and boy did we need a British champion at a British G.P. at last. Great stuff! Glad I can type this because I've still got a sore throat and headache, but it was worth it.

How I wish I could do the same. My NTL, or Virgin media whatever it's called these days, packed in last Tuesday and the engineer won't be coming until tomorrow. So no Sky and no T.V. picture at all for almost a week. Gutted not to be able to record the G.P. for the first time but hopefully a friend will let me borrow a video if we ever get to Brandon again this season. -

What did everyone think then? I really enjoyed the McDonald Brothers and thought they got the crowd going well. 9/10. Ray Quinn was okay I suppose but not really my cup of tea. 7/10. Brenda. The only act which got me covering my ears to try and protect them from her racket. 3/10. Chas 'n' Dave. All right I suppose but not very inspiring and didn't seem to get the fans behind them like the McDonald Brothers. 5/10. -

You will probably have to wait until August to find out. That's when the tickets are normally put on sale. -
