Lakeside Hammers v Edinburgh Monarchs Saturday 19th May
waco replied to tocha's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Some really good racing at the raceway despite the score line 54--36.....Starting in heat 1 with Ben Morley, flying out of the gate to record what i believe may be the fastest time of the season 58.7 ....Adam Ellis top scored with 12+1 from 5 ...Young Zach 10+1 from 5 looked quick and a solid all round performance from the rest,,,with the exception of Alfie Bowtell who continues to struggle at this level and desperately needs a regular team place in the National league ....Eric Riss looked strong early for the visitors while Eddie Kennet had his moments late on,,the rest put up some spirited efforts for little reward ...Chilly evening with an average crowd despite the football cup final ,,track staff did a good job on the track that produced some top class passing,,,most enjoyable evening -

Home win all the way,how many of this Edinborough team have any experience of the Lakeside track.Kennet aside ? -
Woods may be an improvement at reserve for IOW ,,,,if his equipment is up to it..Home win is expected..but some up and down riders in both teams who could make the difference depending how they go on the night...Expect some good races with Mountain and Morley...who look a cut above the rest........
-
IOW win 50 / 40 Improoved all round showing from the Warriors ..Ben Morley another 15 point max ...riding here is doing wonders for his big track capability....Joining the IOW is proving to be a good move..Well done the team..
-
Good to see Hopwood riding and doing the job and a bit better from the middle order...looking good for a win half way through the meeting.?.would be great to be proved wrong with my prediction..keep it going lads
-
RR for Hopwood just will not cut it,..OK they could get a 3 from Morley,s ride but where is the other 7 to 11 coming from to make Hopwoods probable score up which will most likely be needed to have any chance of winning this one ..surely they could have got some one on Hopwoods average to cover...I hope i am wrong but i see Coventry nicking this .... Just maybe there is a small chance, Hopwood can ride........Good luck to all the riders,,stay safe....

IOW is not the easiest place to run a speedway club and you have to have some simpathy for their current predicament., Can not alter the fact that without changes,, ie better riders ,,many more home defeats look on the cards unfortunatly.........
-
Afraid this looks a cake walk for Eastbourne,,Morley and Hopwood will provide most of the IOW s points...Their tail will get slaughtered..

Lakeside V Ipswich frid 4th May 8pm

Ipswich put up a spirited performance against a Hammers side that did not look as invincible at home as previously thought,, score 49 -41... Some good races ,,with Connor Mountain being the star of the show,,undoubtably a better rider round Lakeside than he is at Ipswich,,wish we could swop him for Alfie Bowtell who continues to look out of his depth at this level..Crowd not swelled by many Ipswich fans, but was decent enough ,though, spread round the track which makes it look less,,...Zach looked a little under par after his recent injury but he will soon bounce back....Hammers top five were solid ,but did not dominate as usual..Still an enjoyable meeting in lovely weather for a change..... -

Well he does but who cares,? -
The very good youngsters are snapped up by one or two. clubs who are on the ball each season ..They need to be spread around more to even things up ,,How you could do this i have no idea ,,??? But i do think the points limit needs to be higher in this league which would help a lot.....

The facilities may be poor at Lakeside ,,But i have visited most tracks in England over 65 yrs and on any given night the racing can be as good as anywhere else..Some people do not like technical tracks and knock it for the size more than any thing else.....Lakeside is usually well prepared not like some where the stock car racing takes place on the speedway track'',causing dangerous ruts and metal debris....... -

Lakesides top end is awesome almost like having 3 no 1s..But just because Ipswich have no chance does not mean we wont have some good racing as Liam has said, Schlein and Kennet can turn it on round Lakeside ,,Looks according to team sheets that Zach is back tonight great news ..Lovely weather what could be better than a night at the raceway.... -

Stainlessteeleride your referring to the Ipswich leg of course.?....Fabulous meeting in prospect at Lakeside... -
Expect Ipswich to go better this time But Lakeside are awesome at home ..,,But i think Zach will be missed ,,,We may need to have kept it close at Ipswich on thursday to win on aggregate ..Looking forward to a fine evenings racing.....
-
There is also Alfie Bowtell......
-
It is looking more and more a problem that can only be solved by big improvements by some of the lower end riders at the IOW ...As will be the case with other teams that are likely to fill the lower end of the league placings,,So come on lads start pulling your weight at the Island ,,where you are lucky to have a place with a well managed club that unfortunately does not have money to chuck around indiscrimently........

From a Lakeside point of view you can not lose two in form heat leaders and expect to win away But well done Berwick any way..From a personal point of view it was pleasing to see Ben Morley put. In a solid performance with 8plus points..Hopefully tonight's situation with the team will not happen again this season... -
Tonight's meting at Plymouth is OFF !...
-
IOW lose by 6 points to Eastbourne ,,.Though Ben Morley was.in a league of his own 15 point max,,,with good back up from Hopwood and Campos 10 points apiece,,,but the other 4 riders only got 7 points between them,,,,shows the IOW have serious problems at the bottom end..Changes are needed and soon if they are to be competitive even at home..Eastbourne are a solid outfit but without a real top end,,one or two of there good youngsters need to make the step up to make them serious contenders...
