It wasn't until a 2nd viewing that told me how good heat 20 was - amazing race! I think the final 4 races tonight should be just as good, providing the weather holds up.

It'd be interesting to know how the track was for practice. Anybody on here know? Fingers crossed for oodles of grip like the old PL days.

It shall be run tuesday night instead. if that is called off I don't know! You can bet that (with the current forecast) we will see track covers for the first time on TV in the UK for it.

Going off topic from the GP somewhat but here's my view on the British final: I'm still perplexed as to why this is never on a neutral track that doesn't feature in the elite league. We all know how good Sheffield's facilities have come on, and it's a huge track so naturally can hold more spectators. Even Berwick have proved how they can handle the big meetings - why pick a track where the home track advantage is so strong? edit (further point): Even somewhere like Birmingham wouldn't be too bad. Good facilities and relatively new in the EL so it won't provide too much support to home riders. Plus I've heard it's a relatively neutral track anyway in regards to giving home riders the edge over visitors.

It would be interesting to have a facility where there is a reserve on standby who can take rides if a team is below a certain point. Unless this is a rule already?!

Auty, Barker, Roynon, Daniel Greenwood and Tom Perry all came from grasstrack backgrounds.

Without banging the drum too much on how much better the GP system is compared to the old one off world finals, at the last GP Freddie Lindgren (had it be a one off) would now be world champion, but we know on a consistency basis, he's really not that special! Again this proves the theory that the GP series is better!

Haha good call - I mean 25% of them are race-able and provide fairly decent racing. In my opinion a lot of GP racing is processional as the tracks are too slick.

Hi Phil, it's just another angle on things, we know some riders favour the slick and also with the grip, but we rarely get to see the latter in action. At the end of the day the riders have to adapt to all track conditions, but we never get to physically see this as most of the tracks are slick (lets be honest, 75% of GPs are slick lately)

I agree, Tai is a much more polished rider than Bomber as of late, but I still think he would struggle in the GPs should he get through next year. I'd LOVE to be proved wrong though.

I remember years ago Denmark tracked a VERY young side in a test match against GB, that team was Hans Andersen, Kenneth Bjerre, Puk and a few other names I can't remember. They were criticised for it at the time as GB gave them a trouncing, but the team tracked then are now top class mature riders. Britain's team then? I believe it was David Norris, Mark Loram, Dean Barker, Scott Nicholls and perhaps Rico. A sign of how far behind we were even back then.

Really? Another revamp? Your attention span must be beyond short. The current format simply works. That's all we can ask for, As mentioned earlier the tracks are what need the most attention. Every other saturday I always go in thinking 'we're in for another slick one' How many times have we been treated to a GP where there was actually too much grip? only once in my memory. It's another side to the coin that the GPs very rarely venture into.

You can't expect a man to remember a rule which (as far as I know) has not actually been referred to in modern day speedway, and immediately act upon it within 3 seconds? Come on. We're only human. At the end of the day, his decision was bang on correct and that's all we need from a referee.

Listen to it with the sound off, mimic the sound of the bikes going round with your lips. Simples.

Speaking of Harris, did anyone notice why his bike failed on him the second time around? if you watch the replay you can clearly see before it packed in that his timing cover was hanging off - when this departed from the engine it died. I hope Harris kicked some serious arse for that, that's a huge failure on the mechanics part. Then again I assume it was the mechanics who did it. We all know Gollob does his own timings during a meeting.

Since when did this become a discussion of how a riders style can influence their speed?! Peter Kildemand has one of the wackiest (and most awesome) styles I've seen in years and he goes like the clappers. A rider could could hang off the back of the bike as discussed, but at the end of the day they will set the bike up to suit the riders' style. For instance Hans Andersen stands very tall off the bike, but one will imagine he deadens the engine off to accommodate for the lack of weight over the back wheel.
