Partly, but as a Berwick asset he should have been 1st on the list, especially on the average he was on.
-
Careful Scott, 'pot calling the kettle black'.
-
Depends how bright the sunshine is, although it is often filtered through certain peoples posteria.
-
I for one appreciate that, don't want to here something was brilliant, when it clearly was not.
-
I suppose it's because we are the best speedway fans in all the world
-
Now I agree with you on the Daily Mail, a paper for morons written by morons. That could also be said of Berwick Bandits P.R. team, at least that's what they claim it is
-
I would describe him as a 'Reporter' and not a journalist, Reporters do just that, Journalists sensationalise. I suppose I am lucky I just want to read things as they are and not the cloud cukoo version. Try the Independant, it's slightly less right of right in it's views, however the Guardian crossword is enjoyable

I have to disagree with you, Keith Hamblin reports the facts as they are, with no fluffy bits. Too many fans want the report to be always praising the team even when they are less than good. I much prefer to read what it was really like through an un-biased view, in my opinion that it was you get from Keith Hamblin.

Not heard that from anyone, including anything from the club, nor was it reported on Berwick Advertiser web site. As already said I put nothing into how a rider can ride from press & practice, it's what it is. a rider trying out the track and the bike on his own, not under race conditions. So apart from meeting them and everyone getting together for the first time this season, it serves little else. I will reserve any comments until after the first meeting. By the way at least 20 fans didn't know about him being strapped up either.
-
Didn't go myself, I don't think you can tell what someone will ride like in competition, when they are on the track on their own. Everyone i have spoken to, were not very impressed, same for Crang.
-
I can tell you Steen's bikes stayed here when he went home, wouldn't have thought they would be anywhere near competetive enough for Barker
-
I am hoping Barker will be OK, hasnt started well, but, they are in general friendlies. Voldrih hmmm, not ridden in any major speedway countries like Poland & Sweden, he's 27, not been on the speedway map . unknown just unknown
-
I think the top 4 at Berwick will hold their average, ot there about, it's running with what in essence is 3 reserves that troubles me .
-
Sounds similar to that great Scottish rider Michal MacOvsky.

Because speedway is a minority sport, a fairer question would be, how many come to speedway within a 30 mile radius. The catchment area for Berwick is 33,000 people in total, but it overlaps with every town around us Alnwick, Kelso, Eyemouth.. My shops catchment is down to Alnwick over to Peebles and up to Dunbar. I have regular customers from Haddington and North Berwick, before anyone says speedway related customers, they are not. I class them all as 'locals'.
-
The holiday caravan sites are only one section of Berwicks visitor base, by bringing the arguament down to just the camps is not what we were discussing, it is the visitor in general, and that base is extremely diverse. Hotels, B&Bs, holiday cottages etc., etc.. Caravans are only one area of visitors, on it's own probably agree, but take the whole of tourism in to the equation, then it's a different story.
-
Idiots like me Someone thinking my way.. I rely on my regular customers, but I make a lot of money from visitors who I may never see again. May it long continue..

I said I didn't know about Scotish media, as I do not recieve it as I live in Northumberland. In general the only people that will listen to anything on the news whether it be TV or Radio, are the converted. I accept the promotion in schools is a good idea. I do not accept the need to attract occasional users as irrelevant, if it's only a 100, it's a 100 that would not have attended. Across speedway most of the promotion is aimed at the converted, we go anyway. So back to the debate, what new ideas are out there, how does the club achieve them. For someone to come up with volunteering ones time, does nothing for putting bums on seats. If you get someone to come once or return again and again is an achievment, and nothing more should be asked of them other than to pay their entrance fee and perhaps buy a programme. If someone wants to give up their time, well done but should never be a manditary requirement.

Don't think the price at the level Berwick charge is an issue, when it was dropped to £10 it made no difference. Those who can afford it can afford it, those who cannot, cannot, it really is as simple as that. The challenge is to get visitors to attend who normally would not, so to let them know about it, is a good starting point. To achieve that you need to identify where the visitor would read that information and provide the information. Good ideas, however Berwick and the surrounding areas are in the 10 bottom paid areas in the country. New figures last week also placed as 3rd highest amount of workers on minimum wage not attaining a 'Living Wage'. so an up hill slog...
-
Don't you think it strange, when a genuine discussion with the aim of helping to find ways of promoting, someone has to believe there is an agenda, tad juvenile. I watch the NE news every night, little on speedway in general, gets a mention occasionally, the club mentioned the least out of the 4 Northern clubs, is our beloved Berwick. I don't know if it gets coverage in scotland however.

Speedway And The Recession?
YAMYAMBANDIT replied to The White Knight's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Don't think for one second the recession is the main fault, it's more likely to be the product and an aging fan base.. However the 1 million new jobs even if full time will be in the main on minimum wage (£6.50 per hr), leaving the recipiants employed but having to top up with family credit. The cost is therfore mainly irrelevent, if it was a £5 to get in it would still be unaffordable to those people. Hey Ho ! 'We Are All In It Together'
