I would still take Jake on a 7.00, he's unllikely to get that figure obviously but looks a real talent for the future. At 19 years of age he recently finished ahead of established PL riders like Kozza in the Queenslans championships. I agree he will take time to settle but we do need to build our asset base, the Matej Kus saga has highlightened the need even more. I would much rather see Jake (or Kracmar) than the likes of Pjiper, Harrison etc
-
At the end of the day he was a Redcar rider and they always had first call on him, he done a great job for us in 2014 and if he really wanted to be a bandit in 2015 he could have just refused to ride for redcar. Paul Clews was a Birmingham asset but only wanted to ride for Berwick a few years ago and made sure it happened. I guess Matej has been offered a contract at Redcar that suits him so time to move on. Our own Czech Pepe Franc is much better value on 5.67 than Kus on 7.52, so we do have a ready made replacement that leaves us more points should Jake Allen have to come on 7.00.
-
I think the Jake Allen signing could turn out to be one of the best we have made in a long time, looks to be a real talent for the future. Ben Barker is all action round shielfield and will definately put bums on seats. Doolan & Kus won't improve their averages but would still be a good choice as both are fairly consistent at home and with some of the team not having ridden the track much its important to make sure we win the home meetings. Add in Edberg & Branford at reserve then we theres no reason why we cant finish top 4 again.
-
If TJ has signed then i am sure after a few weeks will score steady enough at home, he could be the type of rider who scores much the same away from home as he does at home. He does have age on his side as he is only 22, similar average to Kus, Doolan and Vissing who would also be loan signings. I agree with other posters would like to see at least one new 7.00 rider as a new asset, still room for one though.
-
I agree, however Kus, Doolan, Vissing, Edberg would appear to be nailed on for next year which is no bad thing as all have done a job for us this year. The other place at reserve iwould like to see James Serjeant as he looked quick when guesting for us and has a years EL experience behind him now. Leaves just over 14, Enough for 2 new 7.00 riders who would become assets.
-
Proboably not no, there will be big demand for Barker, Covatti and Kracmar and they will get many offers, Berwick being up north and a Saturday night track will also come into it. That's not to say we can't still put a good team together, strength in depth worked this year and for me would be the way to go again. Not sure what you mean by "this promotion", would you prefer someone else in charge? remember when the club was last up for sale there wasn't a huge rush of people queing up to buy so be careful what you wish for. I would expect the team to be built around Doolan, Vissing, Kus and Edberg, I would also like to see some new faces who would become assets of Berwick. Pepe on his 5.67 average is worth considering too
-
I would add the Latvian Bogdanovs to the wish list for next year too, over 21 so wont miss as many meetings. We could certainly do with at least one new asset in next years line up, any of the 3 mentioned would be good.

Berwick V Newcastle August 23rd

Hopefully Matty is ok to ride again soon but if he needs a bit longer there are some intersting options for guests out there with the 6.15 available, Josef Franc on 6.11 or even Jacob Thorsell's el avergae of 4.14 would fit, shows how much closer the 2 leagues are when Berwick could use an elite league second string to guest at reserve -

To be fair the rye house riders did just have the 1 meeting on Saturday and not all of their team could be bothered to travel to Berwick either, i do agree though i had hopes of a point or 2 from these meetings, it shows how far we have come this season when we are disappointed at getting nothing at tracks like rye & p'boro which historically have been difficult away meetings. -

You mean George English and his spectacularly wrong team changes after a few meetings -

Probably cause its really not that important, a typing error in a press release didn't ruin for me the fact that we gave our nearest rivals a good thrashing and we're still in good shape to make the play offs, Matty is hopefully back next week and with a full 7 riders again we can have our best finish for a few years. -

He did press the panic button a bit too early this season though, i felt they were stronger before their team changes -

Would have been a tough meeting with a full team, will be write hard now but the guests are as good as can be had with the options available. I thought Anders Thompson was very good on his last visit so he should do well at reserve. Wonder who will be captain in Matty's absence? -

Maybe they trying to work round it or going to announce it when the guest(s) have been confirmed. its still a few days to go till the meeting. If i was going to a football match i wouldn't expect the teams to announce their stating line ups 4 days prior to kick off -
Berwick Vs Edinburgh 12/8 Live On Sky
neil replied to bigeddiechek's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
i thought the racing was good last night for the sky cameras, i watched it back and it did come over very well. Sky have now come to Berwick 2 years in a row and had a good product both times, they went to Armadale quite a few years back and havent been anywhere near the place since, pretty much sums up that Berwick must be doing something right, or maybe Armadale isn't as good as some would have us believe. -

Kelvin came back about 10 years ago as a rider with Arena Essex and was given a good reception, no reason to expect anything different this time round. Done a good job for us in 91. -
Unfortunately he is right too, you can go to any big city club like Chris's last club Newcastle and you would hardly know speedway exists, with the population of Newcastle they should have crowds way in excess of Berwick. its one thing Berwick do try hard at, they are represented well at most local events and have banners out in town, as well as coverage in the local press. Probably most if not all local people know what speedway is and where its at, unfortunately for whatever reason just not enough people go every week like they used to.

Edinburgh V Berwick (ko-cup-2nd Leg) 25/7/14 @ 7.30pm
neil replied to Mr Blobby's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
What would you really expect a press release to say? They have to try and be positive, even when it was an impossible task we were always going to get hammered toight so its no surprise at all, its the strongest Edinburgh team in years against a weakened Berwick team. I'm just glad weve come away with no injuries, Lets just move on by taking all 3 points tomorrow at home and hopefully take something at Glasgow on Sunday -
Berwick V Peterborough Sat 28th June Straightforward Meeting
neil replied to BBSC's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I haven't criticesed the track as such but made the observation thay the P'boro riders adapted to it better than Berwick did, no matter what the track conditions are as professional speedway riders they should be able to adapt the set ups etc to suit. The track is never going to be exactly how all 7 riders want it each week, however the home track will always be the same shape and size which in itself should at least give some home advantage? its not up to the fans to advise on track preparation. -

I know what you mean but i still recokon it would be worth it long term to get riders of such quality as assets, in a couple of years riders like him and Bellego should be top draw PL riders and will be over 21 so meetings missed will be minimal. If we don't take a chance on him then i guarantee someone else will. -

Nikolaj Busk Jakobson would be a great long term signing, team mate of Claus in Denmark and already beating good riders and only 19 years old. Sometimes you need to take a step back to take 2 steps forward. -

Bellego and Jensen were poor tonight but have been good value overall this season and are averaging approx the same as they started on, Kevin did score a few points tonight but overall this season has been a shadow of the rider he used to be, his average from 1st July is 6.73, his starting average was 7.51, thats quite a drop over a short period. Our team is nearly 1.3 points under the limit from 1st July, these points should be used to strengthen the team, we have made a good start to the PL campaign, tonight was the first bad PL result we have had, there is still plenty time to have a successful season but when you have a chance to strengthen it should be taken. -

Too many riders having an off night for us tonight, maybe the track was a problem however the P'boro riders didn't seem to have a problem with it. If we are going to make changes then please go for a new young 7.00 rider who can get near the starting average, there are a few out there, no more loan signings. I left after heat 13 and what should be a worry is that there was a que to get out the car park. -
